Mo$_6$Ga$_{31}$ endohedral cluster superconductor

Synthesis, crystal and electronic structure, and physical properties of the Mo$_6$Ga$_{31}$ endohedral cluster superconductor are reported. The compound has two crystallographic modifications, monoclinic and triclinic, in which the same {Mo$_{12}$Ga$_{62}$} building units are perpendicular or codirectional to each other, respectively. Monoclinic and triclinic structures of Mo$_6$Ga$_{31}$ possess qualitatively the same electronic density of states showing a high peak at the Fermi level. Both modifications are inherently present in the bulk specimen. Due to the proximity effect, bulk Mo$_6$Ga$_{31}$ exhibits single superconducting transition at the critical temperature of 8.2 K in zero magnetic field. The upper critical field, which is 7.8 T at zero temperature, shows clear enhancement with respect to the Werthamer-Helfand-Honenberg prediction. Accordingly, heat capacity measurements indicate strong electron-phonon coupling in the superconducting state with the large ratio of $2Δ(0)/(k_BT_c)=4.5$, where 2$Δ(0)$ is the full superconducting gap at zero temperature.

Anisotropic hyperfine interactions in FeP studied by 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy and 31P NMR

We report results of 57Fe Mossbauer and 31P NMR studies of a phosphide FeP powder sample performed in a wide temperature range including the point (TN ~ 120 K) of magnetic phase transitions. The 57Fe Mossbauer spectra at low temperatures T < TN consist of very diffuse Zeeman pattern with line broadenings and sizeable spectral asymmetry. It was shown that the change of the observed spectral shape is consistent with the transition into the space modulated helicoidal magnetic structure. Analysis of the experimental spectra was carried out assuming the anisotropy of the magnetic hyperfine field Hhf at the 57Fe nuclei when the Fe3+ magnetic moment rotates with respect to the principal axis of the electric field gradient (EFG) tensor. The obtained large temperature independent anharmonicity parameter m ~ 0.96 of the helicoidal spin structure results from easy-axis anisotropy in the plane of the iron spin rotation. It was assumed that the very low maximal value of Hhf(11K) ~ 36 kOe and its high anisotropy delta_Hanis(11K) ~ 30 kOe can be attributed to the stabilization of iron cations in the low-spin state (SFe = 1/2). The 31P NMR measurements demonstrate an extremely broad linewidth reflecting the spatial distribution of the transferred internal magnetic fields of the Fe3+ ions onto P sites in the magnetically ordered state.

Crystal growth and the electronic phase diagram of the 4$d$ doped Na$_{1-δ}$Fe$_{1-x}$Rh$_x$As in comparison with 3$d$ doped Na$_{1-δ}$Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$As

Single crystals of Na$_{1-δ}$Fe$_{1-x}$T$_x$As with T = Co, Rh have been grown using a self-flux technique. The crystals were thoroughly characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility and electronic transport with particular focus on the Rh-doped samples. Measurements of the specific heat and ARPES were conducted exemplarily for the optimally doped compositions. The spin-density wave transition (SDW) observed for samples with low Rh concentration ($0\,\leq\,x\,\leq\,0.013$) is fully suppressed in the optimally doped sample. The superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) is enhanced from $10$~K in Na$_{1-δ}$FeAs to $21$~K in the optimally doped sample ($x$ = 0.019) of the Na$_{1-δ}$Fe$_{1-x}$Rh$_x$As series and decreases for the overdoped compounds, revealing a typical shape for the superconducting part of the electronic phase diagram. Remarkably, the phase diagram is almost identical to that of Co-doped Na$_{1-δ}$FeAs, suggesting a generic phase diagram for both dopants.

Strong electron-phonon coupling in the intermetallic superconductor Mo$_{8}$Ga$_{41}$

Crystals of superconducting Mo$_{8}$Ga$_{41}$ ($T_{\text{c}}=9.8$ K) and Mo$_{\text{8-x}}$V$_{\text{x}}$Ga$_{41}$ limited solid solution $(x_{\text{max}}=1.9(2))$ have been grown from the high-temperature Ga flux and confirmed to have the V$_{8}$Ga$_{41}$ type of crystal structure at room temperature. Thermodynamic and transport measurements as well as electronic structure calculations were performed to investigate both normal- and superconducting-state properties of Mo$_{8}$Ga$_{41}$. The discontinuity in the heat capacity at $T_{\text{c}}$, $Δc_{\text{p}}/γ_{\text{N}}T_{\text{c}}=2.83$ in zero magnetic field, indicates a much stronger electron-phonon coupling than in the standard BCS limit. From the heat capacity data, we estimated the electron-phonon coupling constant $λ_{\text{ep}}=0.9$. The upper critical field is $μ_{0}H_{\text{c2}}(0)=8.3$ T, while the lower one is only $μ_{0}H_{\text{c1}}(0)=131$ Oe. The upper critical field of Mo$_{8}$Ga$_{41}$ exhibits a clear enhancement with respect to the Werthamer-Helfand-Honenberg prediction, consistent with the strong electron-phonon coupling. The Mo$_{\text{8-x}}$V$_{\text{x}}$Ga$_{41}$ limited solid solution also exhibits superconducting properties, and the critical temperature $T_{\text{c}}$ is reduced only slightly with increasing $x$.
