Estimate of the theoretical uncertainty of the cross sections for nucleon knockout in neutral-current neutrino-oxygen interactions

Free nucleons propagating in water are known to produce gamma rays, which form a background to the searches for diffuse supernova neutrinos and sterile neutrinos carried out with Cherenkov detectors. As a consequence, the process of nucleon knockout induced by neutral-current quasielastic interactions of atmospheric (anti)neutrinos with oxygen needs to be under control at the quantitative level in the background simulations of the ongoing and future experiments. In this paper, we provide a quantitative assessment of the uncertainty associated with the theoretical description of the nuclear cross sections, estimating it from the discrepancies between the predictions of different models.

The Relativistic Green's function model and charged-current inclusive neutrino-nucleus scattering at T2K kinematics

We compare the results of the relativistic Green's function model with the experimental data of the charged-current inclusive differential neutrino-nucleus cross sections published by the T2K Collaboration. The model, which is able to describe both MINER$ν$A and MiniBooNE charged-current quasielastic scattering data, underpredicts the inclusive T2K cross sections.

Final-state interactions effects in neutral-current neutrino and antineutrino cross sections at MiniBooNE kinematics

The analysis of the recent neutral-current elastic neutrino and antineutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections measured by the MiniBooNE Collaboration requires relativistic theoretical descriptions also accounting for the role of final-state interactions. In this work we investigate the sensitivity to final-state interactions and compare the MiniBooNE data with the results obtained in the relativistic Green's function model with different parameterizations for the phenomenological relativistic optical potential.

Neutron density distribution and neutron skin thickness of $^{208}$Pb

We present and discuss numerical predictions for the neutron density distribution of $^{208}$Pb using various non-relativistic and relativistic mean-field models for the nuclear structure. Our results are compared with the very recent pion photoproduction data from Mainz. The parity-violating asymmetry parameter for elastic electron scattering at the kinematics of the PREX experiment at JLab and the neutron skin thickness are compared with the available data. We consider also the dependence between the neutron skin and the parameters of the expansion of the symmetry energy.

Recent Results of the Relativistic Green's Function Model in Quasielastic Neutrino and Antineutrino-Nucleus Scattering

The analysis of quasielastic neutrino and antineutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections requires relativistic theoretical descriptions also accounting for the role of final-state interactions (FSI). In the relativistic Green's function (RGF) model FSI are described by a complex optical potential where the imaginary part recovers the contribution of final-state channels that are not included in other models based on the impulse approximation. The RGF results are compared with the data recently published by the MiniBooNE and MINER$ν$A Collaborations. The model is in general able to give a good description of the data.

The relativistic Green's function model in charged-current quasielastic neutrino and antineutrino scattering at MINER$ν$A kinematics

The analysis of charged-current quasielastic neutrino and antineutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections requires relativistic theoretical descriptions also accounting for the role of final-state interactions. We compare the results of the relativistic Green's function model with the data recently published by the MINER$ν$A Collaboration. The model is able to describe both MINER$ν$A and MiniBooNE data.

Elastic and quasi-elastic electron scattering off nuclei with neutron excess

We present theoretical predictions for electron scattering on oxygen and calcium isotopic chains. The calculations are done within the framework of the distorted-wave Born approximation and the proton and neutron density distributions are evaluated adopting a relativistic Dirac-Hartree model. We present results for the elastic and quasi-elastic cross sections and for the parity-violating asymmetry. As a first step, the results of the models are tested in comparison with some of the data available for elastic and quasi-elastic scattering on 16O and 40Ca nuclei. Then, the evolution of some nuclear properties is investigated as a function of the neutron number. We also present a comparison with the parity-violating asymmetry parameter obtained by the PREX Collaboration on 208Pb and give a prediction for the future experiment CREX on 48Ca.

Elastic and quasi-elastic electron scattering on the N = 14, 20, and 28 isotonic chains

We present theoretical predictions for electron scattering on the N = 14, 20, and 28 isotonic chains from proton-deficient to proton-rich nuclei. The calculations are performed within the framework of the distorted-wave Born approximation and the proton and neutron density distributions are evaluated adopting a Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) approach with a density dependent meson-exchange interaction. We present results for the elastic and quasi-elastic cross sections and for the parity-violating asymmetry parameter. Owing to the correlations between the evolution of the electric charge form factors along each chain with the underlying proton shell structure of the isotones, elastic electron scattering experiments on isotones can provide useful informations about the occupation and filling of the single-particle levels of protons.

Quasielastic scattering with the Relativistic Green's Function approach

A relativistic model for quasielastic (QE) lepton-nucleus scattering is presented. The effects of final-state interactions (FSI) between the ejected nucleon and the residual nucleus are described in the relativistic Green's function (RGF) model where FSI are consistently described with exclusive scattering using a complex optical potential. The results of the model are compared with experimental results of electron and neutrino scattering.

Relativistic description of final-state interactions in neutral-current neutrino and antineutrino cross sections

We evaluate semi-inclusive neutral-current quasielastic differential neutrino and antineutrino cross sections within the framework of the relativistic impulse approximation. The results of the relativistic mean field and of the relativistic Green's function models are compared. The sensitivity to the strange-quark content of the nucleon form factor is also discussed. The results of the models are compared with the MiniBooNE experimental data for neutrino scattering. Numerical predictions for flux-averaged antineutrino scattering cross sections are also presented.

Relativistic descriptions of final-state interactions in charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering at ArgoNeuT kinematics

The analysis of the recent charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections measured by the ArgoNeuT Collaboration requires relativistic theoretical descriptions also accounting for the role of final-state interactions. In this work, we evaluate differential neutrino-nucleus cross sections with the relativistic Green's function model, where final-state interactions are described in the inclusive scattering consistently with the exclusive scattering using a complex optical potential. The sensitivity to the parameterization adopted for the phenomenological optical potential is discussed. The predictions of the relativistic Green's function model are compared with the results of different descriptions of final-state interactions.

The Relativistic Green's Function Model for Quasielastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering

A model based on the relativistic impulse approximation for quasielastic lepton-nucleus scattering is presented. The effects of the final-state interactions (FSI) between the emitted nucleon and the residual nucleus are described by the relativistic Green's function model where FSI are treated consistently with the exclusive scattering and using the same complex optical potential. The results of the model are compared with the results of different descriptions of FSI and with available data for neutrino-nucleus scattering.

The analysis of the recent charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections measured by the MiniBooNE Collaboration requires relativistic theoretical descriptions also accounting for the role of final-state interactions. In this work, we evaluate differential antineutrino-nucleus cross sections with the relativistic Green's function model, where the final-state interactions are described in the inclusive scattering consistently with the exclusive scattering using a complex optical potential. The sensitivity to the parameterization adopted for the phenomenological optical potential is discussed. The predictions of the relativistic Green's function model are compared with the results of different descriptions of final-state interactions.

Relativistic models for quasielastic electron and neutrino-nucleus scattering

Relativistic models developed within the framework of the impulse approximation for quasielastic (QE) electron scattering and successfully tested in comparison with electron-scattering data have been extended to neutrino-nucleus scattering. Different descriptions of final-state interactions (FSI) in the inclusive scattering are compared. In the relativistic Green's function (RGF) model FSI are described consistently with the exclusive scattering using a complex optical potential. In the relativistic mean field (RMF) model FSI are described by the same RMF potential which gives the bound states. The results of the models are compared for electron and neutrino scattering and, for neutrino scattering, with the recently measured charged-current QE (CCQE) MiniBooNE cross sections.

A relativistic model for the non-mesonic weak decay of the ${_Λ^{12} C}$ hypernucleus

A fully relativistic finite nucleus wave-function approach to the non-mesonic weak decay of the ${_Λ^{12} C}$ hypernucleus is presented. The model is based on the calculation of the amplitudes of the tree-level Feynman diagrams for the $ΛN\to NN$ process and includes one-pion exchange and one-kaon exchange diagrams. The pseudo-scalar and pseudo-vector choices for the vertex structure are compared. Final-state interactions between each one of the outgoing nucleons and the residual nucleus are accounted for by a complex phenomenological optical potential. Initial $ΛN$ and final $NN$ short-range correlations are included by means of phenomenological correlation functions. Numerical results are presented and discussed for the total non-mesonic decay width $Γ_{nm}=Γ_n+Γ_p$, the $Γ_n/Γ_p$ ratio, the $a_Λ$ intrinsic asymmetry parameter, and the kinetic energy and angular spectra.

Models for quasielastic electron and neutrino-nucleus scattering

Models developed for the exclusive and inclusive quasielastic (QE) electron-nucleus scattering have been extended to QE neutrino-nucleus scattering. Different descriptions of final-state interactions (FSI) are compared. For the inclusive electron scattering the relativistic Green's function model (RGF) is compared with a model based on the use of relativistic purely real mean field (RMF) potentials in the final state. Both approaches lead to a redistribution of the strength but conserving the total flux. Results for electron and neutrino scattering are presented and discussed in different conditions and kinematics. The results of the RGF and RMF models are compared with the double-differential charged-current QE neutrino cross sections recently measured by the MiniBooNE collaboration using a carbon target.

Relativistic descriptions of final-state interactions in charged-current quasielastic neutrino-nucleus scattering at MiniBooNE kinematics

The results of two relativistic models with different descriptions of the final-state interactions are compared with the MiniBooNE data of charged-current quasielastic cross sections. The relativistic mean field model uses the same potential for the bound and ejected nucleon wave functions. In the relativistic Green's function (RGF) model the final-state interactions are described in the inclusive scattering consistently with the exclusive scattering using the same complex optical potential. The RGF results describe the experimental data for total cross-sections without the need to modify the nucleon axial mass.

The analysis of the recent neutral-current neutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections measured by the MiniBooNE Collaboration requires relativistic theoretical descriptions also accounting for the role of final state interactions. In this work we evaluate differential cross sections with the relativistic distorted-wave impulse-approximation and with the relativistic Green's function model to investigate the sensitivity to final state interactions. The role of the strange-quark content of the nucleon form factors is also discussed.

Different descriptions of final-state interactions (FSI) in the inclusive scattering are compared: the relativistic Green's function (RGF) and the relativistic mean field (RMF).The results of the models are compared with the recently measured double-differential charged-current QE (CCQE) neutrino MiniBooNE cross sections.

Relativistic descriptions of quasielastic charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering: application to scaling and superscaling ideas

The analysis of the recent experimental data on charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections measured at MiniBooNE requires fully relativistic theoretical descriptions also accounting for the role of final state interactions. In this work we evaluate inclusive quasielastic differential neutrino cross sections within the framework of the relativistic impulse approximation. Results based on the relativistic mean field potential are compared with the ones corresponding to the relativistic Green function approach. An analysis of scaling and superscaling properties provided by both models is also presented.

Relativistic calculation of nuclear transparency in (e,e'p) reactions

Nuclear transparency in (e,e'p) reactions is evaluated in a fully relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation model. The relativistic mean field theory is used for the bound state and the Pauli reduction for the scattering state, which is calculated from a relativistic optical potential. Results for selected nuclei are displayed in a Q^2 range between 0.3 and 1.8 (GeV/c)^2 and compared with recent electron scattering data. For Q^2 = 0.3 (GeV/c)^2 the results are lower than data; for higher Q^2 they are in reasonable agreement with data. The sensitivity of the model to different prescriptions for the one-body current operator is investigated. The off-shell ambiguities are rather large for the distorted cross sections and small for the plane wave cross sections.
