Localization properties of a two-channel 3D Anderson model

We study two coupled 3D lattices, one of them featuring uncorrelated on-site disorder and the other one being fully ordered, and analyze how the interlattice hopping affects the localization-delocalization transition of the former and how the latter responds to it. We find that moderate hopping pushes down the critical disorder strength for the disordered channel throughout the entire spectrum compared to the usual phase diagram for the 3D Anderson model. In that case, the ordered channel begins to feature an effective disorder also leading to the emergence of mobility edges but with higher associated critical disorder values. Both channels become pretty much alike as their hopping strength is further increased, as expected. We also consider the case of two disordered components and show that in the presence of certain correlations among the parameters of both lattices, one obtains a disorder-free channel decoupled from the rest of the system.

Quantum-state transfer in staggered coupled-cavity arrays

We consider a coupled-cavity array, where each cavity interacts with an atom under the rotating-wave approximation. For a staggered pattern of inter-cavity couplings, a pair of field normal modes each bi-localized at the two array ends arise. A rich structure of dynamical regimes can hence be addressed depending on which resonance condition between the atom and field modes is set. We show that this can be harnessed to carry out high-fidelity quantum-state transfer (QST) of photonic, atomic or polaritonic states. Moreover, by partitioning the array into coupled modules of smaller length, the QST time can be substantially shortened without significantly affecting the fidelity.

Anderson localization on the Falicov-Kimball model with Coulomb disorder

The role of Coulomb disorder is analysed in the Anderson-Falicov-Kimball model. Phase diagrams of correlated and disordered electron systems are calculated within dynamical mean-field theory applied to the Bethe lattice, in which metal-insulator transitions led by structural and Coulomb disorders and correlation can be identified. Metallic, Mott insulator, and Anderson insulator phases, as well as the crossover between them are studied in this perspective. We show that Coulomb disorder has a relevant role in the phase-transition behavior as the system is led towards the insulator regime.

Describing the ground state of quantum systems through statistical mechanics

We present a statistical mechanics description to study the ground state of quantum systems. In this approach, averages for the complete system are calculated over the non-interacting energy levels. Taking different interaction parameter, the particles of the system fall into non-interacting microstates, corresponding to different occupation probabilities for these energy levels. Using this novel thermodynamic interpretation we study the Hubbard model for the case of two electrons in two sites and for the half-filled band on a one-dimensional lattice. We show that the form of the entropy depends on the specific system considered.

Correlated electrons systems on the Apollonian network

Strongly correlated electrons on an Apollonian network are studied using the Hubbard model. Ground-state and thermodynamic properties, including specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, spin-spin correlation function, double occupancy and one-electron transfer, are evaluated applying direct diagonalization and quantum Monte Carlo. The results support several types of magnetic behavior. In the strong-coupling limit, the quantum anisotropic spin 1/2 Heisenberg model is used and the phase diagram is discussed using the renormalization group method. For ferromagnetic coupling, we always observe the existence of long-range order. For antiferromagnetic coupling, we find a paramagnetic phase for all finite temperatures.

Constructing a statistical mechanics for Beck-Cohen superstatistics

The basic aspects of both Boltzmann-Gibbs (BG) and nonextensive statistical mechanics can be seen through three different stages. First, the proposal of an entropic functional ($S_{BG} =-k\sum_i p_i \ln p_i$ for the BG formalism) with the appropriate constraints ($\sum_i p_i=1$ and $\sum_i p_i E_i = U$ for the BG canonical ensemble). Second, through optimization, the equilibrium or stationary-state distribution ($p_i = e^{-βE_i}/Z_{BG}$ with $Z_{BG}=\sum_j e^{-βE_j}$ for BG). Third, the connection to thermodynamics (e.g., $F_{BG}= -\frac{1}β\ln Z_{BG}$ and $U_{BG}=-\frac{\partial}{\partial β} \ln Z_{BG}$). Assuming temperature fluctuations, Beck and Cohen recently proposed a generalized Boltzmann factor $B(E) = \int_0^\infty dβf(β) e^{-βE}$. This corresponds to the second stage above described. In this letter we solve the corresponding first stage, i.e., we present an entropic functional and its associated constraints which lead precisely to $B(E)$. We illustrate with all six admissible examples given by Beck and Cohen.
