AdS3×_3\times S2^2 in IIB with small N=(4,0){\cal N}=(4,0) supersymmetry

We consider warped AdS3×_3\times S2×^2\timesM5_5 backgrounds in type II supergravity preserving small N=(4,0){\cal N}=(4,0) supersymmetry. We show that imposing N=(4,0){\cal N}=(4,0) supersymmetry imposes between 0 and 3 a priori isometries in the internal M5_5. In this work we focus on classes of solution where M5_5 exhibits no a prioi isometry which imposes additional constraints. Solving these in IIA forces M5_5 to support an SU(2)-structure, a case already studied in arXiv:1908.09851, while in IIB one arrives at two broad new classes with identity structure that we reduce to local expressions for the physical fields and PDEs.

New results in AdS/CFT in low dimensions from massive Type IIA

We review recent developments in the study of the AdS/CFT correspondence in low dimensions, focusing on the construction of AdS3_3/CFT2_2 and AdS2_2/CFT1_1 dual pairs in massive Type IIA string theory. We start discussing the AdS3×S2×CY2×I\text{AdS}_3\times S^2\times \text{CY}_2\times I solutions to massive IIA supergravity with N=(0,4)\mathcal{N}=(0,4) supersymmetry constructed in 1908.09851. We review the 2d CFTs dual to these solutions, together with their defect interpretation as surface defects within 5d fixed point theories living in D4-D8 bound states. Next, we discuss the AdS2×S3×CY2×I\text{AdS}_2\times S^3\times \text{CY}_2\times I solutions with N=4\mathcal{N}=4 supersymmetry constructed in 2011.13932. We discuss the superconformal quantum mechanics dual to these solutions, that we interpret in terms of line defects realised as D0-D4 baryon vertices in 5d Sp(N) fixed point theories. We review a particular example in this class of solutions, constructed through non-Abelian T-duality with respect to a non-compact isometry group, and discuss the possible embedding of a 3d black hole geometry constructed long ago via non-Abelian T-duality within this solution.

AdS2_2 geometries and non-Abelian T-duality in non-compact spaces

We obtain an AdS2_{2} solution to Type IIA supergravity with 4 Poincare supersymmetries, via non-Abelian T-duality with respect to a freely acting SL(2,R\mathbf{R}) isometry group, operating on the AdS3×_3\timesS3×^3\timesCY2_2 solution to Type IIB. That is, non-Abelian T-duality on AdS3_3. The dual background obtained fits in the class of AdS2×_2\timesS3×^3\timesCY2_2 solutions to massive Type IIA constructed in [1]. We propose and study a quiver quantum mechanics dual to this solution that we interpret as describing the backreaction of the baryon vertex of a D4-D8 brane intersection.

New AdS2_2 backgrounds and N=4{\cal N}=4 Conformal Quantum Mechanics

We present a new infinite family of Type IIB backgrounds with an AdS2_2 factor, preserving N=4{\cal N}=4 SUSY. For each member of the family we propose a precise dual Super Conformal Quantum Mechanics (SCQM). We provide holographic expressions for the number of vacua (the "central charge"), Chern-Simons terms and other non-perturbative aspects of the SCQM. We relate the "central charge" of the one-dimensional system with a combination of electric and magnetic fluxes in Type IIB. The Ramond-Ramond fluxes are used to propose an extremisation principle for the central charge. Other physical and geometrical aspects of these conformal quantum mechanics are analysed.

MM-strings and AdS3_3 solutions to M-theory with small N=(0,4)\mathcal{N}=(0,4) supersymmetry

We construct a general class of (small) N=(0,4)\mathcal{N}=(0,4) superconformal solutions in M-theory of the form AdS3×S3/Zk×CY2_3\times S^3/\mathbb{Z}_k\times \text{CY}_2, foliated over an interval. These solutions describe M-strings in M5-brane intersections. The MM-strings support (0,4)(0,4) quiver CFTs that are in correspondence with our backgrounds. We compute the central charge and show that it scales linearly with the total number of MM-strings. We introduce momentum charge, thus allowing for a description in terms of M(atrix) theory. Upon reduction to Type IIA, we find a new class of solutions with four Poincaré supercharges of the form AdS2×S3×CY2×I_2\times S^3\times \text{CY}_2\times \mathcal{I}, that we extend to the massive IIA case. We generalise our constructions to provide a complete class of AdS3_3 solutions to M-theory with (0,4) supersymmetry and SU(2) structure. We also construct new AdS2×S3×M4×IAdS_2\times S^3\times \text{M}_4\times \mathcal{I} solutions to massive IIA, with M4_4 a 4d Kähler manifold and four Poincaré supercharges.

1/4 BPS AdS3_3/CFT2_2

We discuss new solutions in massive Type IIA supergravity with AdS3×_3\timesS2^2 factors, preserving N=(0,4){\cal N}=(0,4) SUSY. We propose a duality with a precise family of quivers that flow to N=(0,4){\cal N}=(0,4) fixed points at low energies. These quivers consist on two families of linear quivers coupled by matter fields. Physical observables such as the central charges provide stringent checks of the proposed duality. A formal mapping is presented connecting our backgrounds with those dual to six dimensional N=(1,0){\cal N}=(1,0) CFTs, suggesting the existence of a flow across dimensions between the CFTs.

Holographic Description of M-branes via AdS2_2

We study AdS2×S4×S2×Σ2\textrm{AdS}_2\times S^4 \times S^2 \times Σ_2 solutions in type IIB string theory arising from D1 -- D3 -- NS5 brane intersections. These backgrounds enjoy sixteen supercharges and the corresponding internal geometry is non-compact due to the specific form of the warping w.r.t. the Riemann surface Σ2Σ_2. Even though a direct computation of the holographic free energy of the would-be dual CFT1_1 yields a divergent behaviour, it reveals the typical N3N^3 scaling of a 6d theory upon introducing a hard cut-off. We claim that such geometries may be interpreted as the gravity duals of M(atrix) models describing an IR phase of the (2,0)(2,0) theory of M5 branes, in presence of momentum and NUT charges. We discuss parallel AdS2\textrm{AdS}_2 geometries describing longitudinal M2 branes in the UV, where the counting of the number of degrees of freedom correctly reproduces the expected N3/2N^{3/2} behaviour of the dual field theory. These geometries provide explicit examples where deconstructed extra dimensions yield well-defined UV descriptions in terms of higher-dimensional CFTs.

Two dimensional N=(0,4){\cal N}=(0,4) quivers dual to AdS3_3 solutions in massive IIA

In this paper we discuss an infinite family of new solutions in massive Type IIA supergravity with AdS3×_3\timesS2^2 factors, preserving N=(0,4){\cal N}=(0,4) SUSY. After studying geometrical aspects of the backgrounds we propose a duality with a precise family of quivers that flow to (0,4) fixed points at low energies. These quivers consist on two families of (4,4) linear quivers coupled by matter fields. We present various tests of our proposal.

AdS3_3 solutions in massive IIA, defect CFTs and T-duality

We establish a map between AdS3×_3 \timesS2^2 and AdS7_7 solutions to massive IIA supergravity that allows one to interpret the former as holographic duals to D2-D4 defects inside 6d (1,0) CFTs. This relation singles out in a particular manner the AdS3×_3\timesS2^2 solution constructed from AdS3×_3\timesS3×^3\times CY2_2 through non-Abelian T-duality, with respect to a freely acting SU(2). We find explicit global completions to this solution and provide well-defined (0,4) 2d dual CFTs associated to them. These completions consist of linear quivers with colour groups coming from D2 and D6 branes and flavour groups coming from D8 and D4 branes. Finally, we discuss the relation with flows interpolating between AdS3×_3\timesS2×^2\timesT4^4 geometries and AdS7_7 solutions found in the literature.
