Double Quantum Dot scenario for spin resonance in current noise

We show that interference between parallel currents through two quantum dots, in presence of spin orbit interactions and strong on-site Coulomb repulsion, leads to resonances in current noise at the corresponding Larmor frequencies. An additional resonance at the difference of Larmor frequencies is present even without spin-orbit interaction. The resonance lines have strength comparable to the background shot noise and therefore can account for the numerous observations of spin resonance in STM noise with non-polarized leads. We solve also several other models that show similar resonances.

Interferometric resonance signatures of Majorana bound states

We calculate the current noise power spectrum in a nanoscopic interferometer consisting of a Majorana bound state (MBS) and a localized spin. We show that for large voltage (though less than the superconducting gap) several strong resonance peaks appear at frequencies that depend on the Zeeman splitting of the localized spin and on its tunneling to the localized spin. We also evaluate the differential conductance and find the unitary limit peak $2e^2/h$ at zero voltage as well as peaks at voltages corresponding to the resonances. We propose that detection of the resonances and related peaks in the differential conductance provide a strong support for the presence of an MBS.

Multiple Andreev reflections in s-wave superconductor-quantum dot- topological superconductor tunnel junctions and Majorana bound states

We calculate the current as a function of applied voltage in non-topological s-wave superconductor-quantum dot-topological superconductor tunnel junction. We consider the type of TS which hosts two Majorana bound states (MBS) at the ends of a semiconductor quantum wire or of a chain of magnetic atoms in the proximity with s-wave superconductor. We find that the $I-V$ characteristic of such system in the regime of big voltages has a typical two dot shape and is ornamented by peaks of multiple Andreev reflections. We also consider the other options when the zero energy states are created by disorder (here by Shiba states) or by Andreev zero energy bound states at the surface of quantum dot and superconductor. The later are obtained by tuning the magnetic field to a specific value. Unlike the last two cases the MBS $I-V$ curves are robust to change the magnetic field. Therefore, the magnetic field dependence of the tunneling current can serve as a unique signature for the presence of a MBS.

Nanoscopic interferometer model for spin resonance in current noise

We study a model for the observed phenomenon of electron spin resonance (ESR) at the Zeeman frequency as seen by a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) via its current noise. The model for this ESR-STM phenomenon allows the STM current to flow in two arms of a nanoscopic interferometer, one arm has direct tunneling from the tip to the substrate while the second arm has tunneling through two spin states. We evaluate analytically the noise spectrum for non-polarized leads, as relevant to the experimental setup. We show that spin-orbit interactions allow for an interference of two tunneling paths resulting in a resonance effect.

Charge Resistance in a Majorana RC circuit

We investigate the dynamical charge response in a "Majorana Coulomb box" realized by two Majorana bound states hosted at the ends of a mesoscopic topological superconductor. One side of the wire is coupled to a normal lead and low frequency gate voltage is applied to the system. There is no dc-current; the system can be considered as an RC quantum circuit. We calculate the effective capacitance and charge relaxation resistance. The latter is in agreement with the Korringa-Shiba formula where, however, the charge relaxation resistance is equal to h/2e^2. This value corresponds to the strong Coulomb blockade limit described by a resonant model formulated by Fu [PRL 104, 056402 (2010)]. We also performed direct calculations using the latter model and defined its parameters by direct comparison with our perturbation theory results.

Kondo Tunneling into a Quantum Spin Hall Insulator

The physics of a junction composed of a normal metal, quantum dot and 2D topological insulator (in a quantum spin Hall state) is elucidated. It maifests a subtle combination of Kondo correlations and quantum spin Hall edge states moving on the opposite sides of the 2D topological insulator. In a narrow strip geometry these edge states interact and a gap opens in the edge state spectrum. Consequently, Kondo screening is less effective and that affects electron transport through the junction. Specifically, when edge state coupling is strong enough, the tunneling differential conductance develops a dip at zero temperature instead of the standard zero bias Kondo peak.

Metal-Quantum Dot-Topological Superconductor Junction: Kondo correlations and Majorana Bound States

Electron transport through [normal metal]-[quantum dot]-[topological superconductor] junction is studied and reveals interlacing physics of Kondo correlations with two Majorana fermions bound state residing on the opposite edges of the topological superconductor. When the strength of the Majorana fermion coupling exceeds the temperature $T$, this combination of Kono-Majorana fermion physics can be observed: The usual peak of the temperature dependent zero biased conductance $σ(V=0,T)$ splits and the conductance has a {\it dip} at T=0. The height of the conductance side-peaks decreases with magnetic field.

Shot noise in a Majorana fermion chain

We calculate the shot noise power in a junction of a network of Majorana bound states (MBS) with a normal metal. These Majorana bound states are on the border of alternative ferromagnetic and superconducting regions at the quantum spin Hall insulator edge. We analyze different realization of MBS networks including a few isolated ones or in a chain allowing for the limit of weak and strong tunneling. The conductance, as well as the shot noise are considerably stronger than those of a weakly coupled normal-superconduting junction, being a hallmark of the MBS. We find that the Fano factor is quantized $F=2$ when one MBS member of a pair is coupled to the lead, however if both MBS members are coupled $F$ is non-integer.

Shot noise in Graphene with long range Coulomb interaction and the local Fermi distribution

We calculate the shot noise power in ballistic graphene using the kinetic equation approach based on the Keldysh technique. We find that the local energy distribution function obeys Poisson's equation, indicating a mapping into a diffusive metal system. We derive the conductance and noise including the long range Coulomb interaction to first order. We find that the shot noise increases due to interaction, leading to a frequency dependence. Furthermore, we find that the Fano factor at degeneracy is 1/3, the same as without the Coulomb interaction.
