Weighted inequalities for a superposition of the Copson operator and the Hardy operator

We study a three-weight inequality for the superposition of the Hardy operator and the Copson operator, namely \begin{equation*} \bigg(\int_a^b \bigg(\int_t^b \bigg(\int_a^s f(τ)^p v(τ) \,dτ\bigg)^\frac{q}{p} u(s) \,ds \bigg)^{\frac{r}{q}} w(t) \,dt \bigg)^{\frac{1}{r}} \leq C \int_a^b f(t)\,dt, \end{equation*} in which $(a,b)$ is any nontrivial interval, $q,r$ are positive real parameters and $p\in(0,1]$. A simple change of variables can be used to obtain any weighted $L^p$-norm with $p\ge1$ on the right-hand side. Another simple change of variables can be used to equivalently turn this inequality into the one in which the Hardy and Copson operators swap their positions. We focus on characterizing those triples of weight functions $(u,v,w)$ for which this inequality holds for all nonnegative measurable functions $f$ with a constant independent of $f$. We use a new type of approach based on an innovative method of discretization which enables us to avoid duality techniques and therefore to remove various restrictions that appear in earlier work. This paper is dedicated to Professor Stefan Samko on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

Weighted inequalities involving Hardy and Copson operators

We characterize a four-weight inequality involving the Hardy operator and the Copson operator. More precisely, given $p_1, p_2, q_1, q_2 \in (0, \infty)$, we find necessary and sufficient conditions on nonnegative measurable functions $u_1, u_2, v_1, v_2$ on $(0,\infty)$ for which there exists a positive constant $c$ such that the inequality \begin{align*} &\bigg(\int_0^{\infty} \bigg(\int_0^t f(s)^{p_2} v_2(s)^{p_2} ds \bigg)^{\frac{q_2}{p_2}} u_2(t)^{q_2} dt \bigg)^{\frac{1}{q_2}} \notag \\ & \hspace{3cm} \leq c \bigg(\int_0^{\infty} \bigg(\int_t^{\infty} f(s)^{p_1} v_1(s)^{p_1} ds \bigg)^{\frac{q_1}{p_1}} u_1(t)^{q_1} dt \bigg)^{\frac{1}{q_1}} \end{align*} holds for every non-negative measurable function $f$ on $(0, \infty)$. The proof is based on discretizing and antidiscretizing techniques. The principal innovation consists in development of a new method which carefully avoids duality techniques and therefore enables us to obtain the characterization in previously unavailable situations, solving thereby a long-standing open problem. We then apply the characterization of the inequality to the establishing of criteria for embeddings between weighted Copson spaces $\operatorname{Cop}_{p_1,q_1} (u_1, v_1)$ and weighted Cesàro spaces $\operatorname{Ces}_{p_2, q_2} (u_2, v_2)$, and also between spaces $S^q(w)$ equipped with the norm $\|f\|_{S^q(w)}= \bigg(\int_0^\infty [f^{**}(t)-f^*(t)]^q w(t)\,dt\bigg)^{{1}/{q}}$ and classical Lorentz spaces of type $Λ$.

Weighted inequalities for discrete iterated kernel operators

We develop a new method that enables us to solve the open problem of characterizing discrete inequalities for kernel operators involving suprema. More precisely, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions under which there exists a positive constant $C$ such that \begin{equation*} \Bigg(\sum_{n\in\mathbb{Z}}\Bigg(\sum_{i=-\infty}^n {U}(i,n) a_i\Bigg)^{q} {w}_n\Bigg)^{\frac{1}{q}} \le C \Bigg(\sum_{n\in\mathbb{Z}}a_n^p {v}_n\Bigg)^{\frac{1}{p}} \end{equation*} holds for every sequence of nonnegative numbers $\{a_n\}_{n\in\mathbb{Z}}$ where $U$ is a kernel satisfying certain regularity condition, $0 < p,q \leq \infty$ and $\{v_n\}_{n\in\mathbb{Z}}$ and $\{w_n\}_{n\in\mathbb{Z}}$ are fixed weight sequences. We do the same for the inequality \begin{equation*} \Bigg( \sum_{n\in\mathbb{Z}} w_n \Big[ \sup_{-\infty<i\le n} U(i,n) \sum_{j=-\infty}^{i} a_j \Big]^q \Bigg)^{\frac{1}{q}} \le C \Bigg( \sum_{n\in\mathbb{Z}} a_n^p v_n \Bigg)^{\frac{1}{p}}. \end{equation*} We characterize these inequalities by conditions of both discrete and continuous nature.

On the stability of the Lions-Peetre method of real interpolation with functional parameter

Let $\vec{X}=(X_0, X_1)$ be a compatible couple of Banach spaces, $ 1\le p \le \infty$ and let $ φ$ be positive quasi-concave function. Denote by $\overline{X}_{φ,p}=(X_0,X_1)_{φ,p}$ the real interpolation spaces defined by S. Janson (1981). We give necessary and sufficient conditions on $ φ_{0}$, $φ_{1}$ and $φ$ for the validity of \begin{equation*} \left(\overline{X}_{φ_{0},1},\overline{X}_{φ_{1},1} \right) _{φ,p}= \left(\overline{X}_{φ_{0},\infty},\overline{X}_{φ_{1},\infty}\right)_{φ,p} \end{equation*} for all $ 1\le p\le \infty$, and all Banach couples $\overline{X}. $

Embeddings between weighted complementary local Morrey-type spaces and weighted local Morrey-type spaces

In this paper embeddings between weighted complementary local Morrey-type spaces ${\,^{^{\bf c}}\!}LM_{pθ,ω}({\mathbb R}^n,v)$ and weighted local Morrey-type spaces $LM_{pθ,ω}({\mathbb R}^n,v)$ are characterized. In particular, two-sided estimates of the optimal constant $c$ in the inequality \begin{equation*} \bigg( \int_0^{\infty} \bigg( \int_{B(0,t)} f(x)^{p_2}v_2(x)\,dx \bigg)^{\frac{q_2}{p_2}} u_2(t)\,dt\bigg)^{\frac{1}{q_2}} \le c \bigg( \int_0^{\infty} \bigg( \int_{\,^{^{\bf c}\!}B(0,t)} f(x)^{p_1} v_1(x)\,dx\bigg)^{\frac{q_1}{p_1}} u_1(t)\,dt\bigg)^{\frac{1}{q_1}} \end{equation*} are obtained, where $p_1,\,p_2,\,q_1,\,q_2 \in (0,\infty)$, $p_2 \le q_2$ and $u_1,\,u_2$ and $v_1,\,v_2$ are weights on $(0,\infty)$ and ${\mathbb R}^n$, respectively. The proof is based on the combination of duality techniques with estimates of optimal constants of the embeddings between weighted local Morrey-type and complementary local Morrey-type spaces and weighted Lebesgue spaces, which reduce the problem to the solutions of the iterated Hardy-type inequalities.

Characterizations of Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin Spaces via Averages on Balls

Let $\ell\in\mathbb{N}$ and $p\in(1,\infty]$. In this article, the authors prove that the sequence $\{f-B_{\ell,2^{-k}}f\}_{k\in\mathbb{Z}}$ consisting of the differences between $f$ and the ball average $B_{\ell,2^{-k}}f$ characterizes the Besov space $\dot B^α_{p,q}(\rn)$ with $q\in (0, \infty]$ and the Triebel-Lizorkin space $\dot F^α_{p,q}(\rn)$ with $q\in (1,\infty]$ when the smoothness order $α\in(0,2\ell)$. More precisely, it is proved that $f-B_{\ell,2^{-k}}f$ plays the same role as the approximation to the identity $φ_{2^{-k}}\ast f$ appearing in the definitions of $\dot B^α_{p,q}(\rn)$ and $\dot F^α_{p,q}(\rn)$. The corresponding results for inhomogeneous Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces are also obtained. These results, for the first time, give a way to introduce Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces with any smoothness order in $(0, 2\ell)$ on spaces of homogeneous type, where $\ell\in{\mathbb N}$.

Embeddings between weighted Copson and Cesàro function spaces

In this paper embeddings between weighted Copson function spaces ${\operatorname{Cop}}_{p_1,q_1}(u_1,v_1)$ and weighted Cesàro function spaces ${\operatorname{Ces}}_{p_2,q_2}(u_2,v_2)$ are characterized. In particular, two-sided estimates of the optimal constant $c$ in the inequality \begin{equation*} \bigg( \int_0^{\infty} \bigg( \int_0^t f(τ)^{p_2}v_2(τ)\,dτ\bigg)^{\frac{q_2}{p_2}} u_2(t)\,dt\bigg)^{\frac{1}{q_2}} \le c \bigg( \int_0^{\infty} \bigg( \int_t^{\infty} f(τ)^{p_1} v_1(τ)\,dτ\bigg)^{\frac{q_1}{p_1}} u_1(t)\,dt\bigg)^{\frac{1}{q_1}}, \end{equation*} where $p_1,\,p_2,\,q_1,\,q_2 \in (0,\infty)$, $p_2 \le q_2$ and $u_1,\,u_2,\,v_1,\,v_2$ are weights on $(0,\infty)$, are obtained. The most innovative part consists of the fact that possibly different parameters $p_1$ and $p_2$ and possibly different inner weights $v_1$ and $v_2$ are allowed. The proof is based on the combination duality techniques with estimates of optimal constants of the embeddings between weighted Cesàro and Copson spaces and weighted Lebesgue spaces, which reduce the problem to the solutions of the iterated Hardy-type inequalities.

Some $s$-numbers of an integral operator of Hardy type in Banach function spaces

Let $s_{n}(T)$ denote the $n$th approximation, isomorphism, Gelfand, Kolmogorov or Bernstein number of the Hardy-type integral operator $T$ given by $$ Tf(x)=v(x)\int_{a}^{x}u(t)f(t)dt,\,\,\,x\in(a,b)\,\,(-\infty<a<b<+\infty) $$ and mapping a Banach function space $E$ to itself. We investigate some geometrical properties of $E$ for which $$ C_{1}\int_{a}^{b}u(x)v(x)dx \leq\limsup\limits_{n\rightarrow\infty}ns_{n}(T) \leq \limsup\limits_{n\rightarrow\infty}ns_{n}(T)\leq C_{2}\int_{a}^{b}u(x)v(x)dx $$ under appropriate conditions on $u$ and $v.$ The constants $C_{1},C_{2}>0$ depend only on the space $E.$

Weighted iterated Hardy-type inequalities

In this paper a reduction and equivalence theorems for the boundedness of the composition of a quasilinear operator $T$ with the Hardy and Copson operators in weighted Lebesgue spaces are proved. New equivalence theorems are obtained for the operator $T$ to be bounded in weighted Lebesgue spaces restricted to the cones of monotone functions, which allow to change the cone of non-decreasing functions to the cone of non-increasing functions and vice versa not changing the operator $T$. New characterizations of the weighted Hardy-type inequalities on the cones of monotone functions are given. The validity of so-called weighted iterated Hardy-type inequalities are characterized.

Some estimates for imaginary powers of the Laplace operator in variable Lebesgue spaces and applications

In this paper we study some estimates of norms in variable exponent Lebesgue spaces for a singular integral operators that are imaginary powers of the Laplace operator in $\R^n$. Using Mellin transform argument, from this estimates we obtain boundedness for a family of maximal operators in variable exponent Lebesgue spaces, which are closely related to the (weak) solution of the wave equation.42B25, 42B20, 46E30, 44A10, 42B10, 35L05

Some new iterated hardy-type inequalities: The case $θ= 1$

In this paper we characterize the validity of the Hardy-type inequality \begin{equation*} \left\|\left\|\int_s^{\infty}h(z)dz\right\|_{p,u,(0,t)}\right\|_{q,w,\infty}\leq c \,\|h\|_{1,v,\infty} \end{equation*} where $0<p< \infty$, $0<q\leq +\infty$, $u$, $w$ and $v$ are weight functions on $(0,\infty)$. It is pointed out that this characterization can be used to obtain new characterizations for the boundedness between weighted Lebesgue spaces for Hardy-type operators restricted to the cone of monotone functions and for the generalized Stieltjes operator.

The Rearrangement-Invariant space $Γ_{p,ϕ}$

Fix $b\in (0,\infty)$ and $p\in (1,\infty)$. Let $ϕ$ be a positive measurable function on $I_b:=(0,b)$. Define the Lorentz Gamma norm, $\r_{p,ϕ}$, at the measurable function $f:\R+\to\R+$ by $\rph(f):=[\int_0^bf^{**}(t)^pϕ(t)dt]^{\frac1p}$, in which $f^{**}(t):=t^{-1}\int_0^tf^{*}(s)ds$, where $f^*(t):=μ_f^{-1}(t)$, with $μ_f(s):=|\{x\in I_b: |f(x)|>s\}|$. Our aim in this paper is to study the rearrangement-invariant space determined by $\rph$. In particular, we determine its Köthe dual and its Boyd indices. Using the latter a sufficient condition is given for a Caldéron-Zygmund operator to map such a space into itself.
