Experimental realisation of multipartite entanglement via quantum Fisher information in a uniform antiferromagnetic quantum spin chain

Quantum entanglement is a quantum mechanical phenomenon where the quantum state of a many-body system with many degrees of freedom cannot be described independently of the state of each body with a given degree of freedom, no matter how far apart in space each body is. Entanglement is not only considered a resource in quantum information but also believed to affect complex condensed matter systems. Detecting and quantifying multi-particle entanglement in a many-body system is thus of fundamental significance for both quantum information science and condensed matter physics. Here, we detect and quantify multipartite entanglement in a spin 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain in a bulk solid. Multipartite entanglement was detected using quantum Fisher information which was obtained using dynamic susceptibility measured via inelastic neutron scattering. The scaling behaviour of quantum Fisher information was found to identify the spin 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain to belong to a class of strongly entangled quantum phase transitions with divergent multipartite entanglement.

Magnetic Glass formed by kinetic arrest of first order phase transitions

Metallic glasses are formed by splat-cooling; this ensures that atomic motions are arrested before the latent heat of solidification can be extracted. Glass is defined as a higher disorder metastable state with arrested kinetics. Arrested kinetics is a defining property of a glass, rather than structural disorder as, e.g., in amorphous silicon [1]. `Magnetic glasses' identified recently possess structural as well as magnetic long-range order, but show relaxation and specific heat as for a structural glass [1]. The values of Tc and Tg in these materials are easily varied by varying the magnetic field H, allowing one to go from metallic glass to glass former like scenario.

Modification of structural and magnetic properties of Zn0.96 Mn0.04O samples by Li3+ ion irradiation

Zn0.96Mn0.04O samples were synthesized by solid state reaction technique to explore their magnetic behavior. Structural, morphological and magnetic properties of the samples have been found to be modified by 50 MeV Li+3 ion beam irradiation. The samples exhibit impurity phase and upon irradiation it disappears. Rietveld refinement analysis indicates that substitutional incorporation of Mn in the host lattice increases with irradiation. Grain size decreases with irradiation. Field dependent magnetization (M-H) measurement explicitly indicates ferromagnetic (FM) nature. It has been established from temperature dependent magnetization (M-T) measurement (500 Oe) and ac susceptibility (χ-T) measurement that ferromagnetism in the system seems to be mainly intrinsic; though superparamagnetic Mn nanoparticles also has a minor role. The analysis of M-T data at comparatively high field (5000-Oe) provides an estimation of antiferromagnetic (AFM) exchange, which acts as a reducing agent for observed magnetic moment. The value of saturation magnetization has been increased upon irradiation and is highly correlated with dissolution of impurity phase. Actually structural property has been modified with ion irradiation and this modification may cause some definite positive change in magnetic property.
