Neutrino oscillation analysis of 217 live-days of Daya Bay and 500 live-days of RENO

We present a neutrino oscillation analysis of two particular data sets from the Daya Bay and RENO reactor neutrino experiments aiming to study the increase in precision in the oscillation parameters $\sin^2{2θ}_{13}$ and the effective mass splitting $Δm^2_{ee}$ gained by combining two relatively simple to reproduce analyses available in the literature. For Daya Bay the data from 217 days between December 2011 and July 2012 were used. For RENO we used the data from 500 live days between August 2011 and January 2012. We reproduce reasonably well the results of the individual analyses, both, rate-only and spectral, defining a suitable $χ^2$ statistic for each case. Finally, we performed a combined spectral analysis and extract tighter constraints on the parameters, with an improved precision between 30-40\% with respect of the individual analyses considered.

MiniBooNE-DM: a dark matter search in a proton beam dump

In a dedicated run where protons from the Fermilab Booster were delivered directly to the steel beam dump of the Booster Neutrino Beamline (BNB), the MiniBooNE detector was used to search for the production of sub-GeV dark matter particles via vector-boson mediators. The signal searched for was the elastic scattering of dark matter particles off nucleons in the detector mineral oil, with neutrinos being an irreducible background. A review of the experiment, its analysis methods, its results and future perspectives are summarized, demonstrating that beam dump experiments provide a novel and promising approach to dark matter searches. This contribution was written for the TAUP 2017 proceedings.

Antineutrino flux from the Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant

We present a calculation of the antineutrino flux produced by the reactors at the Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant in México, based on the antineutrino spectra produced in the decay chains of the fission fragments of the main isotopes in the reactor core, and their fission rates, that have been calculated using the DRAGON simulation code. We also present an estimate of the number of expected events in a detector made of plastic scintillator with a mass of 1 ton, at 100 m from the reactor cores.

DAMIC: a novel dark matter experiment

DAMIC (Dark Matter in CCDs) is a novel dark matter experiment that has unique sensitivity to dark matter particles with masses below 10 GeV. Due to its low electronic readout noise (R.M.S. ~3 e-) this instrument is able to reach a detection threshold below 0.5 keV nuclear recoil energy, making the search for dark matter particles with low masses possible. We report on early results and experience gained from a detector that has been running at SNOLAB from Dec 2012. We also discuss the measured and expected backgrounds and present the plan for future detectors to be installed in 2014.
