New Physics from rare decays of charm

Abundance of charm data in the current and future low energy flavor experiments makes it possible to study rare decays of D-mesons with ever increased precision. I discuss theoretical implications of derived constraints on New Physics models from these transitions. I argue that those constraints could be competitive with results of direct searches for New Physics particles (including Dark Matter) at the Large Hadron Collider.

Direct probes of flavor-changing neutral currents in $e^+e^-$ collisions

We propose a novel method to study flavor-changing neutral currents in the $e^+e^-\to D^{*0}$ and $e^+e^-\to B_{s}^* $ transitions, tuning the energy of $e^+e^-$- collisions to the mass of the narrow vector resonance $D^{*0}$ or $ B_{s}^*$. We present a thorough study of both short-distance and long-distance contributions to $e^+e^-\to D^{*0}$ in the Standard Model and investigate possible contributions of new physics in the charm sector. This process, albeit very rare, has clear advantages with respect to the $D^0 \to e^+e^-$ decay: the helicity suppression is absent, and a richer set of effective operators can be probed. Implications of the same proposal for $B_{s}^*$ are also discussed.

Relating B_s Mixing and B_s -> mu+mu- with New Physics

We perform a study of the Standard Model (SM) fit to the mixing quantities $ΔM_{B_s}$, and $ΔΓ_{B_s}/ΔM_{B_s}$ in order to bound contributions of New Physics to $B_s$ mixing. We then use this to explore the branching fraction of $B_{s} \to μ^+μ^-$ in certain models of New Physics (NP). In most cases, this constrains NP amplitudes for $B_{s} \to μ^+μ^-$ to lie below the SM component.

Searching for light Dark Matter in heavy meson decays

Beauty and charm e+e- factories running at resonance thresholds have unique capabilities for studies of the production of light Dark Matter particles in the decays of B_q (D) meson pairs. We provide a comprehensive study of light Dark Matter production in heavy meson decays with missing energy in the final state, such as B_q (D^0) -> "missing energy" and B_q (D^0) -> γ+ "missing energy". We argue that such transitions can be studied at the current flavor factories (and future super-flavor factories) by tagging the missing-energy decays with B_q (D^0) decays "on the other side".

Searching for New Physics with Charm

I provide a comprehensive review of indirect searches for New Physics with charmed mesons. I discuss current theoretical and experimental challenges and successes in understanding decays and mixings of those mesons. I argue that in many New Physics scenarios strong constraints, that surpass those from other search techniques, could be placed on the allowed model parameter space using the existent data from studies of charm transitions. This has direct implications for direct searches of physics beyond the Standard Model at the LHC.

Hadronic D and D_s Meson Decays

We provide a comprehensive review of hadronic decays of D and D_s mesons. We discuss current theoretical and experimental challenges and successes in understanding of hadronic transitions of those mesons. A brief overview of the theoretical and experimental tools are given before discussing the absolute branching fractions for D and D_s mesons. Cabibbo suppressed and rare hadronic decays are discussed and compared with theory before discussing our understanding of hadronic multibody decays.
