Scattering for general-type Dirac systems on the semi-axis: reflection coefficients and Weyl functions

We show that for general-type self-adjoint and skew-self-adjoint Dirac systems on the semi-axis Weyl functions are unique analytic extensions of the reflection coefficients. New results on the extension of the Weyl functions to the real axis and on the existence (in the skew-self-adjoint case) of the Weyl functions follow. Important procedures to recover general-type Dirac systems from the Weyl functions are applied to the recovery of Dirac systems from the reflection coefficients. We explicitly recover Dirac systems from the rational reflection coefficients as well.

GBDT of discrete skew-selfadjoint Dirac systems and explicit solutions of the corresponding non-stationary problems

Generalized Bäcklund-Darboux transformations (GBDTs) of discrete skew-selfadjoint Dirac systems have been successfully used for explicit solving of direct and inverse problems of Weyl-Titchmarsh theory. During explicit solving of the direct and inverse problems, we considered GBDTs of the trivial initial systems. However, GBDTs of arbitrary discrete skew-selfadjoint Dirac systems are important as well and we introduce these transformations in the present paper. The obtained results are applied to the construction of explicit solutions of the interesting related non-stationary systems.

Inversion of the Toeplitz-block Toeplitz matrices and the structure of the corresponding inverse matrices

The results on the inversion of convolution operators and Toeplitz matrices in the 1-D (one dimensional) case are classical and have numerous applications. We consider a 2-D case of Toeplitz-block Toeplitz matrices, describe a minimal information, which is necessary to recover the inverse matrices, and give a complete characterisation of the inverse matrices.

Verblunsky-type coefficients for Dirac and canonical systems generated by Toeplitz and Hankel matrices, respectively

We introduce Verblunsky-type coefficients of Toeplitz and Hankel matrices, which correspond to the discrete Dirac and canonical systems generated by Toeplitz and Hankel matrices, respectively. We prove one to one correspondences between positive-definite Toeplitz (Hankel) matrices and their Verblunsky-type coefficients as analogs of the well-known Verblunsky's theorem. Several interconnections with the spectral theory are described as well.

Dynamical and spectral Dirac systems: response function and inverse problems

We establish simple connections between response functions of the dynamical Dirac systems and $A$-amplitudes and Weyl functions of the spectral Dirac systems. Using these connections we propose a new and rigorous procedure to recover a general-type dynamical Dirac system from its response function as well as a procedure to construct explicit solutions of this problem.

Evolution of Weyl functions and initial-boundary value problems

This review is dedicated to some recent results on Weyl theory, inverse problems, evolution of the Weyl functions and applications to integrable wave equations in a semistrip and quarter-plane. For overdetermined initial-boundary value problems, we consider some approaches, which help to reduce the number of the initial-boundary conditions. The interconnections between dynamical and spectral Dirac systems, between response and Weyl functions are studied as well.

Nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation: stability, distance and corresponding extremal problem in the spatially inhomogeneous case

We start with a global Maxwellian $M_{k}$, which is a stationary solution, with the constant total density ($ρ(t)\equiv \wt ρ$), of the Fokker-Planck equation. The notion of distance between the function $M_{k}$ and an arbitrary solution $f$ (with the same total density $\wt ρ$ at the fixed moment $t$) of the Fokker-Planck equation is introduced. In this way, we essentially generalize the important Kullback-Leibler distance, which was studied before. Using this generalization, we show local stability of the global Maxwellians in the spatially inhomogeneous case. We compare also the energy and entropy in the classical and quantum cases.

Weyl functions and the boundary value problem for a matrix nonlinear Schrödinger equation on a semi-strip

Rectangular matrix solutions of the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation (dNLS) are considered on a semi-strip. Evolution of the corresponding Weyl function is described in terms of the initial-boundary conditions. Then initial condition is recovered from the boundary conditions. Thus, solutions of dNLS are recovered from the boundary conditions.

Weyl-Titchmarsh Theory for Schroedinger Operators with Strongly Singular Potentials

We develop Weyl-Titchmarsh theory for Schroedinger operators with strongly singular potentials such as perturbed spherical Schroedinger operators (also known as Bessel operators). It is known that in such situations one can still define a corresponding singular Weyl m-function and it was recently shown that there is also an associated spectral transformation. Here we will give a general criterion when the singular Weyl function can be analytically extended to the upper half plane. We will derive an integral representation for this singular Weyl function and give a criterion when it is a generalized Nevanlinna function. Moreover, we will show how essential supports for the Lebesgue decomposition of the spectral measure can be obtained from the boundary behavior of the singular Weyl function. Finally, we will prove a local Borg-Marchenko type uniqueness result. Our criteria will in particular cover the aforementioned case of perturbed spherical Schroedinger operators.

Commutation Methods for Schroedinger Operators with Strongly Singular Potentials

We explore the connections between singular Weyl-Titchmarsh theory and the single and double commutation methods. In particular, we compute the singular Weyl function of the commuted operators in terms of the original operator. We apply the results to spherical Schroedinger operators (also known as Bessel operators). We also investigate the connections with the generalized Baecklund-Darboux transformation.

KdV equation in the quarter--plane: evolution of the Weyl functions and unbounded solutions

The matrix KdV equation with a negative dispersion term is considered in the right upper quarter--plane. The evolution law is derived for the Weyl function of a corresponding auxiliary linear system. Using the low energy asymptotics of the Weyl functions, the unboundedness of solutions is obtained for some classes of the initial--boundary conditions.

Construction of the solution of the inverse spectral problem for a system depending rationally on the spectral parameter, Borg-Marchenko-type theorem, and sine-Gordon equation

Weyl theory for a non-classical system depending rationally on the spectral parameter is treated. Borg-Marchenko-type uniqueness theorem is proved. The solution of the inverse problem is constructed. An application to sine-Gordon equation in laboratory coordinates is given.

Inverse Eigenvalue Problems for Perturbed Spherical Schroedinger Operators

We investigate the eigenvalues of perturbed spherical Schrödinger operators under the assumption that the perturbation $q(x)$ satisfies $x q(x) \in L^1(0,1)$. We show that the square roots of eigenvalues are given by the square roots of the unperturbed eigenvalues up to an decaying error depending on the behavior of $q(x)$ near $x=0$. Furthermore, we provide sets of spectral data which uniquely determine $q(x)$.

Sine-Gordon theory in a semi-strip

Initial-boundary value problems for complex sine-Gordon and sine-Gordon equations in a semi--strip are treated. The evolution of the Weyl function and a uniqueness result are obtained for complex sine-Gordon equation. The evolution of the Weyl function as well as an existence result and a procedure to recover solution are given for sine-Gordon equation. It is shown that for a wide class of examples the solutions of the sine-Gordon equation are unbounded in the quarter-plane.

On the GBDT version of the Bäcklund-Darboux transformation and its applications to the linear and nonlinear equations and Weyl theory

A general theorem on the GBDT version of the Bäcklund-Darboux transformation for systems rationally depending on the spectral parameter is treated and its applications to nonlinear equations are given. Explicit solutions of direct and inverse problems for Dirac-type systems, including systems with singularities, and for the system auxiliary to the $N$-wave equation are reviewed. New results on explicit construction of the wave functions for radial Dirac equation are obtained.
