On multivariate quasi-infinitely divisible distributions

A quasi-infinitely divisible distribution on $\mathbb{R}^d$ is a probability distribution $μ$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$ whose characteristic function can be written as the quotient of the characteristic functions of two infinitely divisible distributions on $\mathbb{R}^d$. Equivalently, it can be characterised as a probability distribution whose characteristic function has a Lévy--Khintchine type representation with a "signed Lévy measure", a so called quasi--Lévy measure, rather than a Lévy measure. A systematic study of such distributions in the univariate case has been carried out in Lindner, Pan and Sato \cite{lindner}. The goal of the present paper is to collect some known results on multivariate quasi-infinitely divisible distributions and to extend some of the univariate results to the multivariate setting. In particular, conditions for weak convergence, moment and support properties are considered. A special emphasis is put on examples of such distributions and in particular on $\mathbb{Z}^d$-valued quasi-infinitely divisible distributions.

On the range of exponential functionals of Lévy processes

We characterize the support of the law of the exponential functional $\int_0^\infty e^{-ξ_{s-}} \, dη_s$ of two one-dimensional independent Lévy processes $ξ$ and $η$. Further, we study the range of the mapping $Φ_ξ$ for a fixed Lévy process $ξ$, which maps the law of $η_1$ to the law of the corresponding exponential functional $\int_0^\infty e^{-ξ_{s-}} \, dη_s$. It is shown that the range of this mapping is closed under weak convergence and in the special case of positive distributions several characterizations of laws in the range are given.

On exponential functionals of Levy processes

Exponential functionals of Lévy processes appear as stationary distributions of generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (GOU) processes. In this paper we obtain the infinitesimal generator of the GOU process and show that it is a Feller process. Further we use these results to investigate properties of the mapping Φ, which maps two independent Lévy processes to their corresponding exponential functional, where one of the processes is assumed to be fixed. We show that in many cases this mapping is injective and give the inverse mapping in terms of (Lévy) characteristics. Also, continuity of Φis treated and some results on its range are obtained.

A central limit theorem for the sample autocorrelations of a Lévy driven continuous time moving average process

In this article we consider Lévy driven continuous time moving average processes observed on a lattice, which are stationary time series. We show asymptotic normality of the sample mean, the sample autocovariances and the sample autocorrelations. A comparison with the classical setting of discrete moving average time series shows that in the last case a correction term should be added to the classical Bartlett formula that yields the asymptotic variance. An application to the asymptotic normality of the estimator of the Hurst exponent of fractional Lévy processes is also deduced from these results.

Continuity properties and infinite divisibility of stationary distributions of some generalized Ornstein--Uhlenbeck processes

Properties of the law $μ$ of the integral $\int_0^{\infty}c^{-N_{t-}}\,dY_t$ are studied, where $c>1$ and $\{(N_t,Y_t),t\geq0\}$ is a bivariate Lévy process such that $\{N_t\}$ and $\{Y_t\}$ are Poisson processes with parameters $a$ and $b$, respectively. This is the stationary distribution of some generalized Ornstein--Uhlenbeck process. The law $μ$ is parametrized by $c$, $q$ and $r$, where $p=1-q-r$, $q$, and $r$ are the normalized Lévy measure of $\{(N_t,Y_t)\}$ at the points $(1,0)$, $(0,1)$ and $(1,1)$, respectively. It is shown that, under the condition that $p>0$ and $q>0$, $μ_{c,q,r}$ is infinitely divisible if and only if $r\leq pq$. The infinite divisibility of the symmetrization of $μ$ is also characterized. The law $μ$ is either continuous-singular or absolutely continuous, unless $r=1$. It is shown that if $c$ is in the set of Pisot--Vijayaraghavan numbers, which includes all integers bigger than 1, then $μ$ is continuous-singular under the condition $q>0$. On the other hand, for Lebesgue almost every $c>1$, there are positive constants $C_1$ and $C_2$ such that $μ$ is absolutely continuous whenever $q\geq C_1p\geq C_2r$. For any $c>1$ there is a positive constant $C_3$ such that $μ$ is continuous-singular whenever $q>0$ and $\max\{q,r\}\leq C_3p$. Here, if $\{N_t\}$ and $\{Y_t\}$ are independent, then $r=0$ and $q=b/(a+b)$.

Strictly stationary solutions of multivariate ARMA equations with i.i.d. noise

We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of strictly stationary solutions of multivariate ARMA equations with independent and identically distributed noise. For general ARMA$(p,q)$ equations these conditions are expressed in terms of the characteristic polynomials of the defining equations and moments of the driving noise sequence, while for $p=1$ an additional characterization is obtained in terms of the Jordan canonical decomposition of the autoregressive matrix, the moving average coefficient matrices and the noise sequence. No a priori assumptions are made on either the driving noise sequence or the coefficient matrices.
