Wasserstein Routed Capsule Networks

Capsule networks offer interesting properties and provide an alternative to today's deep neural network architectures. However, recent approaches have failed to consistently achieve competitive results across different image datasets. We propose a new parameter efficient capsule architecture, that is able to tackle complex tasks by using neural networks trained with an approximate Wasserstein objective to dynamically select capsules throughout the entire architecture. This approach focuses on implementing a robust routing scheme, which can deliver improved results using little overhead. We perform several ablation studies verifying the proposed concepts and show that our network is able to substantially outperform other capsule approaches by over 1.2 % on CIFAR-10, using fewer parameters.

Polyhedral Computation Based Transfer Capacities in Multi-Area Power Systems

This paper proposes a new methodology to maximize the feasible set of power injections and cross-border power transfers in meshed multi-area power systems. The approach used polyhedral computation schemes and is an extension to the classic procedure for cross-border transfer capacity assessment in the European power network, including the computation of bilateral cross-border transfer capacities as well as multilateral flow-based approaches. The focus is the characterization of inter-area exchange limits required for secure power system operation in the presence of physical transmission constraints, while maximizing the utilization factors of the transmission lines. The numerical examples include a case study of the ENTSO-E transmission system.

Efficient evaluation of mp-MIQP solutions using lifting

This paper presents an efficient approach for the evaluation of multi-parametric mixed integer quadratic programming (mp-MIQP) solutions, occurring for instance in control problems involving discrete time hybrid systems with quadratic cost. Traditionally, the online evaluation requires a sequential comparison of piecewise quadratic value functions. As the main contribution, we introduce a lifted parameter space in which the piecewise quadratic value functions become piecewise affine and can be merged to a single value function defined over a single polyhedral partition without any overlaps. This enables efficient point location approaches using a single binary search tree. Numerical experiments include a power electronics application and demonstrate an online speedup up to an order of magnitude. We also show how the achievable online evaluation time can be traded off against the offline computational time.

Ground interpolation for the theory of equality

Theory interpolation has found several successful applications in model checking. We present a novel method for computing interpolants for ground formulas in the theory of equality. The method produces interpolants from colored congruence graphs representing derivations in that theory. These graphs can be produced by conventional congruence closure algorithms in a straightforward manner. By working with graphs, rather than at the level of individual proof steps, we are able to derive interpolants that are pleasingly simple (conjunctions of Horn clauses) and smaller than those generated by other tools. Our interpolation method can be seen as a theory-specific implementation of a cooperative interpolation game between two provers. We present a generic version of the interpolation game, parametrized by the theory T, and define a general method to extract runs of the game from proofs in T and then generate interpolants from these runs.
