Percolation Modeling of Conductance of Self-Healing Composites

We explore the conductance of self-healing materials as a measure of the material integrity in the regime of the onset of the initial fatigue. Continuum effective-field modeling and lattice numerical simulations are reported. Our results illustrate the general features of the self-healing process: The onset of the material fatigue is delayed, by developing a plateau-like time-dependence of the material quality. We demonstrate that in this low-damage regime, the changes in the conductance and similar transport/response properties of the material can be used as measures of the material quality degradation.

Modeling of Self-Healing Polymer Composites Reinforced with Nanoporous Glass Fibers

We report on our progress towards continuum rate equation modeling, as well as numerical simulations, of self-healing of fatigue in composites reinforced with glue carrying nanoporous fibers. We conclude that with the proper choice of the material parameters, effects of fatigue can be partially overcome and degradation of mechanical properties can be delayed.

Quantum Dynamics of Spins Coupled by Electrons in 1D Channel

We develop a unified theoretical description of the induced interaction and quantum noise in a system of two spins (qubits) coupled via a quasi-one-dimensional electron gas in the Luttinger liquid regime. Our results allow evaluation of the degree of coherence in quantum dynamics driven by the induced indirect exchange interaction of localized magnetic moments due to conduction electrons, in channel geometries recently experimentally studied for qubit control and measurement.
