A homotopical Skolem--Noether theorem

The classical Skolem--Noether Theorem [Giraud, 71] shows us (1) how we can assign to an Azumaya algebra $A$ on a scheme $X$ a cohomological Brauer class in $H^2(X,\mathbf G_m)$ and (2) how Azumaya algebras correspond to twisted vector bundles. The Derived Skolem--Noether Theorem [Lieblich, 09] generalizes this result to weak algebras in the derived 1-category locally quasi-isomorphic to derived endomorphism algebras of perfect complexes. We show that in general for a co-family $\mathscr C^\otimes$ of presentable monoidal quasi-categories with descent over a quasi-category with a Grothendieck topology, there is a fibre sequence giving in particular the above correspondences. For a totally supported perfect complex $E$ over a quasi-compact and quasi-separated scheme $X$, the long exact sequence on homotopy group sheaves splits giving equalities $π_i(\mathop{\mathrm{Aut}}_{\mathop{\mathrm{Perf}}} E,\mathrm{id}_E)=π_i(\mathop{\mathrm{Aut}}_{\mathop{\mathrm{Alg}}\mathop{\mathrm{Perf}}}\mathop{\mathbf R\mathrm{End} E},\mathrm{id}_{\mathop{\mathbf R\mathrm{End} E}})$ for $i\ge1$. Further applications include complexes in Derived Algebraic Geometry, module spectra in Spectral Algebraic Geometry and ind-coherent sheaves and crystals in Derived Algeraic Geometry in characteristic 0.

Brauer Groups of Quot Schemes

Let $X$ be an irreducible smooth complex projective curve. Let ${\mathcal Q}(r,d)$ be the Quot scheme parametrizing all coherent subsheaves of ${\mathcal O}^{\oplus r}_X$ of rank $r$ and degree $-d$. There are natural morphisms ${\mathcal Q}(r,d) \longrightarrow \text{Sym}^d(X)$ and $\text{Sym}^d(X) \longrightarrow \text{Pic}^d(X)$. We prove that both these morphisms induce isomorphism of Brauer groups if $d \geq 2$. Consequently, the Brauer group of ${\mathcal Q}(r,d)$ is identified with the Brauer group of $\text{Pic}^d(X)$ if $d \geq 2$.

The Period-Index Problem of the Canonical Gerbe of Symplectic and Orthogonal Bundles

We consider regularly stable parabolic symplectic and orthogonal bundles over an irreducible smooth projective curve over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. The morphism from the moduli stack of such bundles to its coarse moduli space is a $μ_2$-gerbe. We study the period and index of this gerbe, and solve the corresponding period-index problem.

A generalized Quot scheme and meromorphic vortices

Let X be a compact connected Riemann surface. Fix a positive integer r and two nonnegative integers d_p and d_z. Consider all pairs of the form (F, f), where F is a holomorphic vector bundle on X of rank r and degree d_z-d_p, and f : {\mathcal O}^{\oplus r}_X \rightarrow F is a meromorphic homomorphism which an isomorphism outside a finite subset of X and has pole (respectively, zero) of total degree d_p (respectively, d_z). Two such pairs $(F_1, f_1) and $(F_2, f_2) are called isomorphic if there is a holomorphic isomorphism of F_1 with F_2 over X that takes f_1 to f_2. We construct a natural compactification of the moduli space equivalence classes pairs of the above type. The Poincaré polynomial of this compactification is computed.

On the essential dimension of coherent sheaves

We characterize all fields of definition for a given coherent sheaf over a projective scheme in terms of projective modules over a finite-dimensional endomorphism algebra. This yields general results on the essential dimension of such sheaves. Applying them to vector bundles over a smooth projective curve C, we obtain an upper bound for the essential dimension of their moduli stack. The upper bound is sharp if the conjecture of Colliot-Thélène, Karpenko and Merkurjev holds. We find that the genericity property proved for Deligne-Mumford stacks by Brosnan, Reichstein and Vistoli still holds for this Artin stack, unless the curve C is elliptic.

Automorphisms of the Quot schemes associated to compact Riemann surfaces

Let X be a compact connected Riemann surface of genus at least two. Fix positive integers r and d. Let Q denote the Quot scheme that parametrizes the torsion quotients of {\mathcal O}^{\oplus r}_X of degree d. This Q is also the moduli space of vortices for the standard action of U(r) on {\mathbb C}^r. The group \text{PGL}(r, {\mathbb C}) acts on Q via the action of $\text{GL}(r, {\mathbb C})$ on ${\mathcal O}^{\oplus r}_X$. We prove that this subgroup $\text{PGL}(r, {\mathbb C})$ is the connected component, containing the identity element, of the holomorphic automorphism group Aut(\mathcal Q). As an application of it, we prove that the isomorphism class of the complex manifold Q uniquely determines the isomorphism class of the Riemann surface X.

The Essential Dimension of Stacks of Parabolic Vector Bundles over Curves

We find upper bounds on the essential dimension of the moduli stack of parabolic vector bundles over a curve. When there is no parabolic structure, we improve the known upper bound on the essential dimension of the usual moduli stack. Our calculations also give lower bounds on the essential dimension of the semistable locus inside the moduli stack of vector bundles of rank $r$ and degree $d$ without parabolic structure.

Semistability criterion for parabolic vector bundles on curves

We give a cohomological criterion for a parabolic vector bundle on a curve to be semistable. It says that a parabolic vector bundle $E$ with rational parabolic weights is semistable if and only if there is another parabolic vector bundle $F$ with rational parabolic weights such that the cohomologies of the vector bundle underlying the para- bolic tensor product $E \otimes F$ vanish. This criterion generalizes the known semistability criterion of Faltings for vector bundles on curves and significantly improves the result in [Bis07].

Pullback of parabolic bundles and covers of ${\mathbb P}^1\setminus\{0,1,\infty\}$

We work over an algebraically closed ground field of characteristic zero. A $G$-cover of ${\mathbb P}^1$ ramified at three points allows one to assign to each finite dimensional representation $V$ of $G$ a vector bundle $\oplus \mathscr{O}(s_i)$ on ${\mathbb P}^1$ with parabolic structure at the ramification points. This produces a tensor functor from representation of $G$ to vector bundles with parabolic structure that characterises the original cover. This work attempts to describe this tensor functor in terms of group theoretic data. More precisely, we construct a pullback functor on vector bundles with parabolic structure and describe the parabolic pullback of the previously described tensor functor.
