Hermitian-Yang-Mills connections on collapsing elliptically fibered $K3$ surfaces

Let $X\rightarrow {\mathbb P}^1$ be an elliptically fibered $K3$ surface, admitting a sequence $ω_{i}$ of Ricci-flat metrics collapsing the fibers. Let $V$ be a holomorphic $SU(n)$ bundle over $X$, stable with respect to $ω_i$. Given the corresponding sequence $Ξ_i$ of Hermitian-Yang-Mills connections on $V$, we prove that, if $E$ is a generic fiber, the restricted sequence $Ξ_i|_{E}$ converges to a flat connection $A_0$. Furthermore, if the restriction $V|_E$ is of the form $\oplus_{j=1}^n\mathcal O_E(q_j-0)$ for $n$ distinct points $q_j\in E$, then these points uniquely determine $A_0$.

The Deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills Equation and Level Sets of Harmonic Polynomials

Suppose $v(x,y):\mathbb C\rightarrow \mathbb R$ is an entire harmonic polynomial with no critical points in the right half plane. Let $z_1, z_2\in\mathbb C$ lie on a level set of $v$ , and assume ${\rm Re}(z_2)>{\rm Re}(z_1)\geq0$. We give a necessary and sufficient condition, depending only on algebraic properties of the polynomial $v$, for when there exists a smooth real function $f$ whose graph $x+if(x)$ lies on a level curve of $v$ connecting $z_1$ to $z_2$. Inspired by GIT, we construct a Kempf-Ness functional on an appropriate function space, and prove the functional is bounded from below and proper if and only if a such a graph exists. As an application, we find a stability condition equivalent to the existence of a solution to the deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills equation on the family of projective bundles $ X_{r,m}:=\mathbb P(\mathcal O_{\mathbb P^m}\oplus \mathcal O_{\mathbb P^m}(-1)^{\oplus (r+1)})$ with Calabi Symmetry.

(1,1) forms with specified Lagrangian phase: A priori estimates and algebraic obstructions

Let $(X,α)$ be a Kähler manifold of dimension n, and let $[ω] \in H^{1,1}(X,\mathbb{R})$. We study the problem of specifying the Lagrangian phase of $ω$ with respect to $α$, which is described by the nonlinear elliptic equation \[ \sum_{i=1}^{n} \arctan(λ_i)= h(x) \] where $λ_i$ are the eigenvalues of $ω$ with respect to $α$. When $h(x)$ is a topological constant, this equation corresponds to the deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills (dHYM) equation, and is related by Mirror Symmetry to the existence of special Lagrangian submanifolds of the mirror. We introduce a notion of subsolution for this equation, and prove a priori $C^{2,β}$ estimates when $|h|>(n-2)\fracπ{2}$ and a subsolution exists. Using the method of continuity we show that the dHYM equation admits a smooth solution in the supercritical phase case, whenever a subsolution exists. Finally, we discover some stability-type cohomological obstructions to the existence of solutions to the dHYM equation and we conjecture that when these obstructions vanish the dHYM equation admits a solution. We confirm this conjecture for complex surfaces.

A special Lagrangian type equation for holomorphic line bundles

Let $L$ be a holomorphic line bundle over a compact Kähler manifold $X$. Motivated by mirror symmetry, we study the deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills equation on $L$, which is the line bundle analogue of the special Lagrangian equation in the case that $X$ is Calabi-Yau. We show that this equation is the Euler-Lagrange equation for a positive functional, and that solutions are unique global minimizers. We provide a necessary and sufficient criterion for existence in the case that $X$ is a Kähler surface. For the higher dimensional cases, we introduce a line bundle version of the Lagrangian mean curvature flow, and prove convergence when $L$ is ample and $X$ has non-negative orthogonal bisectional curvature.

Poisson metrics on flat vector bundles over non-compact curves

Let (E,D,P) be a flat vector bundle with a parabolic structure over a punctured Riemann surface, (M,g). We consider a deformation of the harmonic metric equation which we call the Poisson metric equation. This equation arises naturally as the dimension reduction of the Hermitian-Yang-Mills equation for holomorphic vector bundles on K3 surfaces in the large complex structure limit. We define a notion of slope stability, and show that if the flat connection D has regular singularities, and the Riemannian metric g has finite volume then E admits a Poisson metric with asymptotics determined by the parabolic structure if and only if (E,D,P) is slope polystable.

Stable Higgs bundles and Hermitian-Einstein metrics on non-Kähler manifolds

Let $X$ be a compact Gauduchon manifold, and let $E$ and $V_0$ be holomorphic vector bundles over $X$. Suppose that $E$ is stable when considering all subsheaves preserved by a Higgs field $θ\in H^0($End$(E)\otimes V_0)$. Then a modified version of the Donaldson heat flow converges along a subsequence of times to a solution of a generalized Hermitian-Einstein equation, given by $iΛF+[θ,θ^\dagger]=λI$.

The Yang-Mills flow and the Atiyah-Bott formula on compact Kahler manifolds

We study the Yang-Mills flow on a holomorphic vector bundle E over a compact Kahler manifold X . Along a solution of the flow, we show the curvature $iΛF(A_t)$ approaches in $L^2$ an endomorphism with constant eigenvalues given by the slopes of the quotients from the Harder-Narasimhan filtration of E. This proves a sharp lower bound for the Hermitian-Yang-Mills functional and thus the Yang-Mills functional, generalizing to arbitrary dimension a formula of Atiyah and Bott first proven on Riemann surfaces. Furthermore, we show any reflexive extension to all of X of the limiting bundle $E_\infty$ is isomorphic to $Gr(E)^{\star\star}$, verifying a conjecture of Bando and Siu.

Existence of approximate Hermitian-Einstein structures on semi-stable bundles

The purpose of this paper is to investigate canonical metrics on a semi-stable vector bundle E over a compact Kahler manifold X. It is shown that, if E is semi-stable, then Donaldson's functional is bounded from below. This implies that E admits an approximate Hermitian-Einstein structure, generalizing a classic result of Kobayashi for projective manifolds to the Kahler case. As an application some basic properties of semi-stable vector bundles over compact Kahler manifolds are established, such as the fact that semi-stability is preserved under tensor product and certain exterior and symmetric products.

Remarks on the Yang-Mills flow on a compact Kahler manifold

We study the Yang-Mills flow on a holomorphic vector bundle E over a compact Kahler manifold X. We construct a natural barrier function along the flow, and introduce some techniques to study the blow-up of the curvature along the flow. Making some technical assumptions, we show how our techniques can be used to prove that the curvature of the evolved connection is uniformly bounded away from an analytic subvariety determined by the Harder-Narasimhan-Seshadri filtration of E. We also discuss how our assumptions are related to stability in some simple cases.

The limit of the Yang-Mills flow on semi-stable bundles

By the work of Hong and Tian it is known that given a holomorphic vector bundle E over a compact Kahler manifold X, the Yang-Mills flow converges away from an analytic singular set. If E is semi-stable, then the limiting metric is Hermitian-Einstein and will decompose the limiting bundle into a direct sum of stable bundles. Bando and Siu prove this limiting bundle can be extended to a reflexive sheaf E' on all of X. In this paper, we construct an isomorphism between E' and the double dual of the stable quotients of the graded Seshadri filtration of E.
