C*-envelopes for operator algebras with a coaction and co-universal C*-algebras for product systems

A cosystem consists of a possibly nonselfadoint operator algebra equipped with a coaction by a discrete group. We introduce the concept of C*-envelope for a cosystem; roughly speaking, this is the smallest C*-algebraic cosystem that contains an equivariant completely isometric copy of the original one. We show that the C*-envelope for a cosystem always exists and we explain how it relates to the usual C*-envelope. We then show that for compactly aligned product systems over group-embeddable right LCM semigroups, the C*-envelope is co-universal, in the sense of Carlsen, Larsen, Sims and Vittadello, for the Fock tensor algebra equipped with its natural coaction. This yields the existence of a co-universal C*-algebra, generalizing previous results of Carlsen, Larsen, Sims and Vittadello, and of Dor-On and Katsoulis. We also realize the C*-envelope of the tensor algebra as the reduced cross sectional algebra of a Fell bundle introduced by Sehnem, which, under a mild assumption of normality, we then identify to the quotient of the Fock algebra by the image of Sehnem's strong covariance ideal. In another application, we obtain a reduced Hao-Ng isomorphism theorem for the co-universal algebras.

All finite transitive graphs admit self-adjoint free semigroupoid algebras

In this paper we show that every non-cycle finite transitive directed graph has a Cuntz-Krieger family whose WOT-closed algebra is $B(\mathcal{H})$. This is accomplished through a new construction that reduces this problem to in-degree $2$-regular graphs, which is then treated by applying the periodic Road Coloring Theorem of Béal and Perrin. As a consequence we show that finite disjoint unions of finite transitive directed graphs are exactly those finite graphs which admit self-adjoint free semigroupoid algebras.

Classification of irreversible and reversible Pimsner operator algebras

Since their inception in the 30's by von Neumann, operator algebras have been used in shedding light in many mathematical theories. Classification results for self-adjoint and non-self-adjoint operator algebras manifest this approach, but a clear connection between the two was sought since their emergence in the late 60's. We connect these seemingly separate type of results by uncovering a hierarchy of classification for non-self-adjoint operator algebras and $C^*$-algebras with additional $C^*$-algebraic structure. Our approach naturally applies to algebras arising from $C^*$-correspondences to resolve self-adjoint and non-self-adjoint isomorphism problems in the literature. We apply our strategy to completely elucidate this newly found hierarchy for operator algebras arising from directed graphs.

Isomorphisms of tensor algebras arising from weighted partial systems

We continue the study of isomorphisms of tensor algebras associated to a C*-correspondences in the sense of Muhly and Solel. Inspired by by recent work of Davidson, Ramsey and Shalit, we solve isomorphism problems for tensor algebras arising from weighted partial dynamical systems. We provide complete bounded / isometric classification results for tensor algebras arising from weighted partial systems, both in terms of the C*-correspondences associated to them, and in terms of the original dynamics. We use this to show that the isometric isomorphism and algebraic / bounded isomorphism problems are two distinct problems, that require separate criteria to be solved. Our methods yield alternative proofs to classification results for Peters' semi-crossed product due to Davidson and Katsoulis and for multiplicity-free graph tensor algebras due to Katsoulis, Kribs and Solel.

Operator algebras and subproduct systems arising from stochastic matrices

We study subproduct systems in the sense of Shalit and Solel arising from stochastic matrices on countable state spaces, and their associated operator algebras. We focus on the non-self-adjoint tensor algebra, and Viselter's generalization of the Cuntz-Pimsner C*-algebra to the context of subproduct systems. Suppose that $X$ and $Y$ are Arveson-Stinespring subproduct systems associated to two stochastic matrices over a countable set $Ω$, and let $\mathcal{T}_+(X)$ and $\mathcal{T}_+(Y)$ be their tensor algebras. We show that every algebraic isomorphism from $\mathcal{T}_+(X)$ onto $\mathcal{T}_+(Y)$ is automatically bounded. Furthermore, $\mathcal{T}_+(X)$ and $\mathcal{T}_+(Y)$ are isometrically isomorphic if and only if $X$ and $Y$ are unitarily isomorphic up to a *-automorphism of $\ell^\infty(Ω)$. When $Ω$ is finite, we prove that $\mathcal{T}_+(X)$ and $\mathcal{T}_+(Y)$ are algebraically isomorphic if and only if there exists a similarity between $X$ and $Y$ up to a *-automorphism of $\ell^\infty(Ω)$. Moreover, we provide an explicit description of the Cuntz-Pimsner algebra $\mathcal{O}(X)$ in the case where $Ω$ is finite and the stochastic matrix is essential.
