N=(2,2){\cal N}=(2,2) AdS3_3 from D3-branes wrapped on Riemann surfaces

We construct N=(2,2)\mathcal{N}=(2,2) supersymmetric AdS3_3 solutions of type IIB supergravity, dual to twisted compactifications of 4d N=4\mathcal{N}=4 super-Yang--Mills on Riemann surfaces. We consider both theories with a regular topological twist, and a twist involving the isometry group of the Riemann surface. These solutions are interpreted as the near-horizon of black strings asymptoting to AdS5×S5_5\times \text{S}^5. As evidence for the proposed duality we compute the central charge of the gravity solutions and show that it agrees with the field theory result.

On AdS3_3 solutions of Type IIB

We study N=1\mathcal{N}=1 supersymmetric AdS3×M7_3 \times M_7 backgrounds of Type IIB supergravity, with non-vanishing axio-dilaton, three-form and five-form fluxes, and a "strict" SU(3)SU(3)-structure on M7M_7. We derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for supersymmetry as a set of constraints on the torsion classes of the SU(3)SU(3)-structure. Given an Ansatz for the three-form fluxes, the problem of also solving the equations of motion involves a "master equation", which generalizes ones that have previously appeared in the literature.

N = 2 supersymmetric AdS4 solutions of type IIB supergravity

We analyze general N = 2 supersymmetric AdS4 solutions of type IIB supergravity. Utilizing a set of pure spinor equations directly adapted to N = 2, the necessary and sufficient conditions for supersymmetry are reduced to a concise system of partial differential equations for two functions which determine the solutions. We show that using this system analytic solutions can be generated, thus potentially expanding the rather limited set of known AdS4 solutions in type IIB supergravity.

Supersymmetric AdS_5 solutions of massive IIA supergravity

Motivated by a recently found class of AdS_7 solutions, we classify AdS_5 solutions in massive IIA, finding infinitely many new analytical examples. We reduce the general problem to a set of PDEs, determining the local internal metric, which is a fibration over a surface. Under a certain simplifying assumption, we are then able to analytically solve the PDEs and give a complete list of all solutions. Among these, one class is new and regular. These spaces can be related to the AdS_7 solutions via a simple universal map for the metric, dilaton and fluxes. The natural interpretation of this map is that the dual CFT_6 and CFT_4 are related by twisted compactification on a Riemann surface ΣgΣ_g. The ratio of their free energy coefficients is proportional to the Euler characteristic of ΣgΣ_g. As a byproduct, we also find the analytic expression for the AdS_7 solutions, which were previously known only numerically. We determine the free energy for simple examples: it is a simple cubic function of the flux integers.

AdS_6 solutions of type II supergravity

Very few AdS_6 x M_4 supersymmetric solutions are known: one in massive IIA, and two IIB solutions dual to it. The IIA solution is known to be unique; in this paper, we use the pure spinor approach to give a classification for IIB supergravity. We reduce the problem to two PDEs on a two-dimensional space Sigma. M_4 is then a fibration of S^2 over Sigma; the metric and fluxes are completely determined in terms of the solution to the PDEs. The results seem likely to accommodate near-horizon limits of (p,q)-fivebrane webs studied in the literature as a source of CFT_5's. We also show that there are no AdS_6 solutions in eleven-dimensional supergravity.

Six-Dimensional Superconformal Theories and their Compactifications from Type IIA Supergravity

We describe three analytic classes of infinitely many AdS_d supersymmetric solutions of massive IIA supergravity, for d = 7, 5, 4. The three classes are related by simple universal maps. For example, the AdS_7 x M_3 solutions (where M_3 is topologically S^3) are mapped to AdS_5 x Sigma_2 x M'_3, where Sigma_2 is a Riemann surface of genus g >= 2 and the metric on M'_3 is obtained by distorting M_3 in a certain way. The solutions can have localized D6 or O6 sources, as well as an arbitrary number of D8-branes. The AdS_7 case (previously known only numerically) is conjecturally dual to an NS5-D6-D8 system. The field theories in three and four dimensions are not known, but their number of degrees of freedom can be computed in the supergravity approximation. The AdS_4 solutions have numerical "attractor" generalizations that might be useful for flux compactification purposes.

Universal consistent truncation for 6d/7d gauge/gravity duals

Recently, AdS_7 solutions of IIA supergravity have been classified; there are infinitely many of them, whose expression is known analytically, and with internal space of S^3 topology. Their field theory duals are six-dimensional (1,0) SCFT's. In this paper we show that for each of these AdS_7 solutions there exists a consistent truncation from massive IIA supergravity to minimal gauged supergravity in seven dimensions. This theory has an SU(2) gauge group, and a single scalar, whose value is related to a certain distortion of the internal S^3. This explains the universality observed in recent work on AdS_5 and AdS_4 solutions dual to compactifications of the (1,0) SCFT_6's. Thanks to previous work on the minimal gauged supergravity, the truncation also implies the existence of holographic RG-flows connecting those solutions to the AdS_7 vacuum, as well as new classes of IIA AdS_3 solutions.

The gravity dual of supersymmetric gauge theories on a two-parameter deformed three-sphere

We present rigid supersymmetric backgrounds for three-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories, comprising a two-parameter U(1)xU(1)-invariant deformed three-sphere, and their gravity duals. These are described by supersymmetric solutions of four-dimensional N=2 gauged supergravity with a self-dual metric on the ball and different instantons for the graviphoton field. We find two types of solutions, distinguished by their holographic free energies. In one type the holographic free energy is constant, whereas in another type it depends in a simple way on the parameters and is generically complex. This leads to a conjecture for the localized partition function of a class of N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories on these backgrounds.

The supersymmetric NUTs and bolts of holography

We show that a given conformal boundary can have a rich and intricate space of supersymmetric supergravity solutions filling it, focusing on the case where this conformal boundary is a biaxially squashed Lens space. Generically we find that the biaxially squashed Lens space S^3/Z_p admits Taub-NUT-AdS fillings, with topology R^4/Z_p, as well as smooth Taub-Bolt-AdS fillings with non-trivial topology. We show that the Taub-NUT-AdS solutions always lift to solutions of M-theory, and correspondingly that the gravitational free energy then agrees with the large N limit of the dual field theory free energy, obtained from the localized partition function of a class of N=2 Chern-Simons-matter theories. However, the solutions of Taub-Bolt-AdS type only lift to M-theory for appropriate classes of internal manifold, meaning that these solutions exist only for corresponding classes of three-dimensional N=2 field theories.

A note on supersymmetric AdS_6 solutions of massive type IIA supergravity

Motivated by the AdS_6/CFT_5 correspondence, we study general supersymmetric solutions of massive type IIA supergravity, consisting of a warped product of six-dimensional anti-de Sitter space AdS_6 with a four-dimensional Riemannian manifold M_4, and fluxes compatible with the SO(5,2) symmetry. We find that the only local solution of this form is the warped AdS_6 x_w S^4 solution, originally discovered by Brandhuber and Oz. We discuss the supersymmetric properties of this solution.

N=2 supersymmetric AdS_4 solutions of M-theory

We analyse the most general N=2 supersymmetric solutions of D=11 supergravity consisting of a warped product of four-dimensional anti-de-Sitter space with a seven-dimensional Riemannian manifold Y_7. We show that the necessary and sufficient conditions for supersymmetry can be phrased in terms of a local SU(2)-structure on Y_7. Solutions with non-zero M2-brane charge also admit a canonical contact structure, in terms of which many physical quantities can be expressed, including the free energy and the scaling dimensions of operators dual to supersymmetric wrapped M5-branes. We show that a special class of solutions is singled out by imposing an additional symmetry, for which the problem reduces to solving a second order non-linear ODE. As well as recovering a known class of solutions, that includes the IR fixed point of a mass deformation of the ABJM theory, we also find new solutions which are dual to cubic deformations. In particular, we find a new supersymmetric warped AdS_4 x S^7 solution with non-trivial four-form flux.

The gravity dual of supersymmetric gauge theories on a squashed three-sphere

We present the gravity dual to a class of three-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories on a U(1) x U(1)-invariant squashed three-sphere, with a non-trivial background gauge field. This is described by a supersymmetric solution of four-dimensional N=2 gauged supergravity with a non-trivial instanton for the graviphoton field. The particular gauge theory in turn determines the lift to a solution of eleven-dimensional supergravity. We compute the partition function for a class of Chern-Simons quiver gauge theories on both sides of the duality, in the large N limit, finding precise agreement for the functional dependence on the squashing parameter. This constitutes an exact check of the gauge/gravity correspondence in a non-conformally invariant setting.

The free energy of N=2 supersymmetric AdS_4 solutions of M-theory

We show that general N=2 supersymmetric AdS_4 solutions of M-theory with non-zero M2-brane charge admit a canonical contact structure. The free energy of the dual superconformal field theory on S^3 and the scaling dimensions of operators dual to supersymmetric wrapped M5-branes are expressed via AdS/CFT in terms of contact volumes. In particular, this leads to topological and localization formulae for the coefficient of N^{3/2} in the free energy of such solutions.
