A Probabilistic Framework for Controlling Quantum Systems

A new control method that considers all sources of uncertainty and noises that might affect the time evolutions of quantum physical systems is introduced. Under the proposed approach, the dynamics of quantum systems are characterised by probability density functions (pdfs), thus providing a complete description of their time evolution. Using this probabilistic description, the proposed method suggests the minimisation of the distance between the actual pdf that describes the joint distribution of the time evolution of the quantum system and the external electric field, and the desired pdf that describes the system target outcome. We start by providing the control solution for quantum systems that are characterised by arbitrary pdfs. The obtained solution is then applied to quantum physical systems characterised by Gaussian pdfs and the form of the optimised controller is elaborated. Finally, the proposed approach is demonstrated on a real molecular system and two spin systems showing the effectiveness and simplicity of the method.

Construction of coherent states for Morse potential: A su(2)-like approach

We propose a generalized su(2) algebra that perfectly describes the discrete energy part of the Morse potential. Then, we examine particular examples and the approach can be applied to any Morse oscillator and to practically any physical system whose spectrum is finite. Further, we construct the Klauder coherent state for Morse potential satisfying the resolution of identity with a positive measure, obtained through the solution of truncated Stieltjes moment problem. The time evolution of the uncertainty relation of the constructed coherent states is analyzed. The uncertainty relation is more localized for small values of radius of convergence.

Generalized su(1,1) algebra and the construction of nonlinear coherent states for Pöschl-Teller potential

We introduce a generalization structure of the su(1,1) algebra which depends on a function of one generator of the algebra, f(H). Following the same ideas developed to the generalized Heisenberg algebra (GHA) and to the generalized su(2), we show that a symmetry is present in the sequence of eigenvalues of one generator of the algebra. Then, we construct the Barut-Girardello coherent states associated with the generalized su(1,1) algebra for a particle in a Pöschl-Teller potential. Furthermore, we compare the time evolution of the uncertainty relation of the constructed coherent states with that of GHA coherent states. The generalized su(1,1) coherent states are very localized.

Robustness of deformed catlike states under dissipative decoherence

The generation of coherent superposition of distinct physical systems and the construction of robust entangled states under decoherence are the most experimental challenges of quantum technologies. In this work, we investigate the behaviors of catlike states of a deformed harmonic oscillator under dissipative decoherence. Varying the deformation parameters, we obtain catlike states having more resistance against decoherence than catlike states of the ordinary harmonic oscillator. Furthermore, we study nonclassical properties and entanglement of different catlike states subjects to decoherence caused by a dissipative interaction with a large environment. Depending on different deformation parameters, we reveal that the nonclassical properties of catlike states under dissipative interaction can be more retarded and preserved in the time.
