On the resurgence and asymptotic resurgence of homogeneous ideals

Let K\mathbb{K} be a field and R=K[x1,…,xn]R = \mathbb{K}[x_1, \ldots, x_n]. We obtain an improved upper bound for asymptotic resurgence of squarefree monomial ideals in RR. We study the effect on the resurgence when sum, product and intersection of ideals are taken. We obtain sharp upper and lower bounds for the resurgence and asymptotic resurgence of cover ideals of finite simple graphs in terms of associated combinatorial invariants. We also explicitly compute the resurgence and asymptotic resurgence of cover ideals of several classes of graphs. We characterize a graph being bipartite in terms of the resurgence and asymptotic resurgence of edge and cover ideals. We also compute explicitly the resurgence and asymptotic resurgence of edge ideals of some classes of graphs.

Upper bounds for the regularity of powers of edge ideals of graphs

Let GG be a finite simple graph and I(G)I(G) denote the corresponding edge ideal. In this paper, we obtain upper bounds for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of I(G)qI(G)^q in terms of certain combinatorial invariants associated with GG. We also prove a weaker version of a conjecture by Alilooee, Banerjee, Beyarslan and Hà on an upper bound for the regularity of I(G)qI(G)^q and we prove the conjectured upper bound for the class of vertex decomposable graphs. Using these results, we explicitly compute the regularity of I(G)qI(G)^q for several classes of graphs.

Subadditivity, strand connectivity and multigraded Betti numbers of monomial ideals

Let R=K[x1,…,xn]R = \mathbb{K}[x_1, \ldots, x_n] and I⊂RI \subset R be a homogeneous ideal. In this article, we first obtain certain sufficient conditions for the subadditivity of R/IR/I. As a consequence, we prove that if II is generated by homogeneous complete intersection, then subadditivity holds for R/IR/I. We then study a conjecture of Avramov, Conca and Iyengar on subadditivity, when II is a monomial ideal with R/IR/I Koszul. We identify several classes of edge ideals of graphs GG such that the subadditivity holds for R/I(G)R/I(G). We then study the strand connectivity of edge ideals and obtain several classes of graphs whose edge ideals are strand connected. Finally, we compute upper bounds for multigraded Betti numbers of several classes of edge ideals.

A Northcott type inequality for Buchsbaum-Rim coefficients

In 1960, D.G. Northcott proved that if e0(I)e_0(I) and e1(I)e_1(I) denote zeroth and first Hilbert-Samuel coefficients of an m\mathfrak m-primary ideal II in a Cohen-Macaulay local ring (R,m)(R,\mathfrak m), then e0(I)−e1(I)≤ℓ(R/I)e_0(I)-e_1(I)\le \ell (R/I). In this article, we study an analogue of this inequality for Buchsbaum-Rim coefficients. We prove that if (R,m)(R,\mathfrak m) is a two dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local ring and MM is a finitely generated RR-module contained in a free module FF with finite co-length, then br0(M)−br1(M)≤ℓ(F/M)br_0(M)-br_1(M)\le \ell (F/M), where br0(M)br_0(M) and br1(Mbr_1(M) denote zeroth and first Buchsbaum-Rim coefficients respectively.

Periodic Occurance of Complete Intersection Monomial Curves

We study the complete intersection property of monomial curves in the family $Γ_{å+ \jj} = {(t^{a_0 + j}, t^{a_1+j},..., t^{a_n + j}) ~ | ~ j \geq 0, ~ a_0 < a_1 <...< a_n}$. We prove that if $Γ_{å+\jj}$ is a complete intersection for j≫0j \gg0, then $Γ_{å+\jj+\underline{a_n}}$ is a complete intersection for j≫0j \gg 0. This proves a conjecture of Herzog and Srinivasan on eventual periodicity of Betti numbers of semigroup rings under translations for complete intersections. We also show that if $Γ_{å+\jj}$ is a complete intersection for j≫0j \gg 0, then Γa˚Γ_å is a complete intersection. We also characterize the complete intersection property of this family when n=3n = 3.

Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity and Gorensteinness of fiber cone

In this article, we study the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity and Gorenstein properties of the fiber cone. We obtain upper bounds for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the fiber cone and obtain sufficient conditions for the regularity of the fiber cone to be equal to that of the Rees algebra. We obtain a formula for the canonical module of the fiber cone and use it to study the Gorenstein property of the fiber cone.
