Conceptual design of the Spin Physics Detector

The Spin Physics Detector, a universal facility for studying the nucleon spin structure and other spin-related phenomena with polarized proton and deuteron beams, is proposed to be placed in one of the two interaction points of the NICA collider that is under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia). At the heart of the project there is huge experience with polarized beams at JINR. The main objective of the proposed experiment is the comprehensive study of the unpolarized and polarized gluon content of the nucleon. Spin measurements at the Spin Physics Detector at the NICA collider have bright perspectives to make a unique contribution and challenge our understanding of the spin structure of the nucleon. In this document the Conceptual Design of the Spin Physics Detector is presented.

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to paired $B_c$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation

We present theoretical analysis of paired $B_c$ mesons production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at different energy scales taking into account full next-to-leading order QCD corrections. Both possible electroweak channels are considered: production via virtual photon and via virtual $Z$-boson. We study in detail the role of radiative QCD corrections, which were found to be significant especially at low energies. It is shown that the contribution from $Z$-boson is significant at high energies ($\sqrt{s} > M_Z/2$) especially in the case of paired production of pseudo-scalar and vector ($B_c + B_c^*$) mesons. Azimuthal asymmetry induced by a $P$-violating weak interaction with $Z$-boson is also analyzed.

The relative yields of heavy hadrons as function of transverse momentum at LHC experiments

It is shown that the dependence of ratio $f_s/f_d$ could be understood within the fragmentation approach. However, the validity of fragmentation model is questionable at low $p_T$, and contributions of nonfragmentation mechanisms are possible. It is demonstrated, that the precise measurements of $p_T$ dependence of $f_s/f_d$, $f_{Λ_b}/f_{B}$ and analogous values as function of $p_T$ can essentially improve our understanding of heavy hadron production.At large $p_T$ a plateau is expected in $f_s/f_d$ distribution. Contrary, a plateau is not expected in $f_{B_c}/f_{B}$ distribution on $p_T$.

The observation possibility of $B_c$ excitations at LHC

It is shown that in the decays $B_c(2P)\to B_c^* γ^\mathrm{hard}$, $B_c(3P)\to B_c^* γ^\mathrm{hard}$ and $B_c(2S)\to B_c^* +π^+π^-$ followed by the decay $B_c^*\to B_c +γ^\mathrm{soft}$ the loss of the soft photon $γ^\mathrm{soft}$ do not wash out peaks from the initial excitations. The relative yields of $B_c^*$, 2P-wave, and 3P-wave states of $B_c$ meson at LHC are estimated as function of transverse energy of emitted photon $γ^\mathrm{hard}$. It is pointed out, that the decays $B_c(2S) \to B_c(B_c^*)+π^+π^-$ could provide a new information about a $σ$ resonance nature.

Associated production of $J/ψ$-mesons and open charm and double open charm production at the LHC

Theoretical predictions of cross sections and properties of the $J/ψ$-meson production in association with an open charm hadron and formation of two open charm hadrons from two $c\bar{c}$ pairs in the LHC conditions are presented. Processes in both single and in double parton scattering mechanisms are included into consideration. Special attention is paid to the kinematic limits of the LHCb detector for which comparison with the newest experimental data is carried out.

Bc -> J/psi(Bs,Bs*)+ n pi Decays

The Bc -> J/psi(Bs,Bs*)+ n pi decay amplitudes are calculated in the frame work of factorization model, which allows to represent this processes as Bc decay into J/psi Bs+W* followed by the virtual W*-boson decay into the final set of pi mesons. The module for the generation of Bc meson decays into J/psi + n pi and Bs(*) + n pi (n <= 3) is implemented into the GAUSS program package of the LHCb Collaboration.

BC_NPI module for the analysis of Bc -> J/psi +n pi and Bc -> B_s +n pi decays within the EvtGen package

The module for the generation of $B_c$ meson decays into $J/ψ+ nπ$ and $B_s^{(*)} + nπ$ ($n\le 4$) is implemented into EvtGen program package. The decay amplitudes are calculated in the frame work of factorization model. Within this approach the decay can be represented as $B_c$ decay into $J/ψ(B_s)+W^*$ followed by the virtual $W^*$-boson decay into the final set of $π$-mesons. The described calculation technique allows to adopt the parameters of $W^*\to nπ$ transition from the analysis of $τ$ decay into $ν_τ+nπ$. Comparison with available theoretical predictions is performed.

Double J/psi-meson Production at LHC and 4c-tetraquark state

The article is devoted to double J/psi-meson production at LHC. Theoretical predictions for pp -> 2J/psi+X cross section at sqrt{s}=7 TeV for different kinematical restrictions are presented. Special attention is payed to possible contribution of novel particles -- tetraquarks build from four c-quarks. According to presented in our article estimates, it is quietly possible to observe at least one of these state (tensor meson) experimentally.

Tetraquarks composed of 4 heavy quarks

In the current work spectroscopy and possibility of observation at the LHC of tetraquarks composed of 4 heavy quarks is discussed. Tetraquarks concerned are T_{4c}=[cc][cc]$, T_{4b}=[bb][bb] and T_{2[bc]}=[bc][bc]. By solving nonrelativistic Schroedinger equation masses of these states are found with the hyperfine splitting accounted for. It is shown that masses of tensor tetraquarks T_{4c}(2++) and T_{2[bc]}(2++) are high enough to observe these states as peaks in the invariant mass distributions of heavy quarkonia pairs in pp -> T_{4c}+X -> 2J/ψ+X, pp -> T_{2[bc]}+X -> 2B_{c}+X and pp -> T_{2[bc]}+X -> J/ψΥ(1S)+X channels while T_{4b} is under the threshold of decay into a vector bottomonia pair.

Color flows for the process gg --> Bc + c + b-bar

The contributions of different color flows into the gluonic Bc-meson production cross section has been calculated. This study is essential to simulate Bc-meson production with the help of Pythia program. The essence of matter is that in the frame work of the Lund model used by Pythia the hadronization way of the final partons and hadronic remnants depends on the color flow type. The modified method for calculation of the color flow contributions has been proposed.

Exlusive charmed meson pair production

The experimental data of BELLE Collaboration on the exclusive charmed meson pair production in the process of monophotonic $e^+e^-$-annihilation ($e^+e^-\to γ^* \to D\bar D$) has been studied. It has been shown that these data is described satisfactorily in the frame work of constituent quark model. Our studies have demonstrated that the central production process $e^+e^-\to e^+e^-γγ\to e^+e^-D\bar D +X$ and the process of monophotonic $e^+e^-$-annihilation yield comparable numbers of the charmed meson pairs.

Processes $e^+e^- \to c \bar c c \bar c$ and $e^+e^- \to J/ψ+gg$ at $\sqrt{s}=10.59$ GeV

BELLE Collaboration data for $J/ψ$ inclusive production in the processes $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+gg$ and $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+c\bar c$ have been discussed. These data have been compared with the predictions of two pQCD methods: the former method use the information about the $J/ψ$ wave function, the latter one do not use such information and is based on the quark-hadron duality hypothesis. Both these calculation methods lead to essential discrepancy between the theoretic predictions and the experimental data. The production cross section dependence on effective gluon mass has been investigated for the process $e^+e^-\to J/ψ+gg$. The production cross section of doubly charmed baryons $Ξ^{*}_{cc}$ has been estimated.

Photoproduction and electroproduction of charm at high energies

We estimate the differential and total cross sections for both the photoproduction of vector D*-meson and its yield in deep inelastic scattering at the HERA collider in the framework of model motivated by perturbative calculations in QCD. The offered model allows us to take into account higher twists over the transverse momentum of meson at p_T ~ m_c and to correctly approach the dominance of $c$-quark fragmentation at p_T >> m_c. We consider a possibility for the hadronization of color-octet c q-bar state into the meson. The combined contribution by the singlet and octet-color terms results in a good agreement with the experimental data for both the photoproduction and the production in deep inelastic scattering.

Hadronic production of heavy mesons in perturbative QCD

In the framework of perturbative QCD in the fourth order over the $α_s$ coupling constant for the production of two pairs of quarks and in the model of weak binding of the quarks into meson, the analysis of the hadronic production of mesons, containing $b$-quark, is performed, and a minimal transverse momentum is determined, so that at the momenta greater than the found one, the meson differential spectrum can be reliably described in the model of factorization of the hard $b$-quark production and the subsequent fragmentation into the mesons. At low transverse momenta of the meson, nonfragmentational contributions are essential. They are determined by the complete set of QCD diagrams in the given order over $α_s$, so that the latters result in the effect of destructive interference with the diagrams of fragmentation at $z=2E/\sqrt{s}$ close to $1$.

preprint1995arXiv

Photonic production of P-wave states of B_c mesons

Numerical calculations for the production of $P$-wave levels of $B_c$ quarkonium in $γγ$ collisions are performed in the leading $O(α_s^2α_{em}^2)$ order of perturbation theory. The total cross-section of $P$-wave state production is about 10 \% of that for the $S$-wave levels. The contribution of fragmentation component ($6+6$ diagrams) is low, and the basic contribution is determined by the recombination mechanism ($8$ Feynman diagrams). The gauge invariant term of the $\bar b\to B_c$ fragmentation ($6$ diagrams) quite accurately reproduces the result of the fragmentation model, whereas there is a strong deviation of the $c\to B_c$ fragmentation term from the predictions of the fragmentation model.

Some Features of the Hadronic $B_c^{(*)}$-meson Production at Large $p_T$

Calculations of the hadronic $B^{(*)}_c$-mesons production performed in the framework of the perturbative QCD taking into account $O(α_s^4)$ Feynmann diagrams are presented. A comparison of the exact calculations with those based on the fragmentation model of $\bar b\rightarrow B^{(*)}_c+X$ shows the large discrepancy between them. The exact calculations of the $B^{(*)}_c$-mesons production cross-sections as the function of $p_T$ at the energy of the FNAL Tevatron ($\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV) are given. The predicted ratio of the vector to the pseudoscalar state cross-sections is about $R\sim 3$ instead of $R\sim 1.4$ for the fragmentation model.

Hadronic production of B_c-mesons

On the basis of the exact formulas of QCD perturbation theory and parton model the hadronic production cross-sections for $B_c({B_c}^*)$-mesons ($1^1S_0,1^3S_1,2^1S_0,2^3S_1$-states) are calculated. The method used is the direct calculation of appropriate amplitudes with the help of a FORTRAN program and subsequent Monte-Carlo integration over the phase space and convolution with the structure functions.
