Effectiveness of the Self-Consistent Harmonic Approximation in ferromagnets with dipolar interactions

Among the various methods for treating magnetic models, the Self-Consistent Harmonic Approximation (SCHA) has successfully described ferro and antiferromagnetism in many different scenarios. In particular, the SCHA is a valuable and easy formalism for determining transition temperatures as, for example, the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless. The heart of the method includes thermal fluctuations through of a renormalization parameter depending on temperature. Nevertheless, most of the work has been done considering only short-range interactions, which results in an incomplete description of actual magnetic samples. Here, we generalize the SCHA to include the dipolar interaction in the thermodynamic analysis. The method is applied to analyze the well-known Europium Chalcogenides EuO and EuS. The SCHA results are in good agreement with the experimental measurements.

Theoretical analysis of FMR-driven spin pumping current and its properties via Self-Consistent Harmonic Approximation

We applied the Self-Consistent Harmonic Approximation (SCHA), combined with coherent states formalism, to study the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) in a ferromagentic/normal metal junction. Due to the interface interaction, the FMR-generated spin current is injected from the magnetic insulator to the normal metal, the so-called spin pumping. Ordinarily, ferromagnetic models are described by bosonic representation or phenomenological theories; however, in a coherent magnetization state, the SCHA is the more natural choice to treat FMR problems. Over the years, the SCHA has successfully applied to investigate ferro and antiferromagnetism in a wide range of scenarios. The main point of the SCHA formalism involves the adoption of a quadratic model for which corrections are included through temperature-dependent renormalization parameters. Therefore, the SCHA is an efficient method for determining the properties of magnetically ordered phases. Using the SCHA, we obtained the temperature dependence of FMR-driven spin pumping. In addition, we found the spin-mix conductance, the additional damping from the angular momentum injection into the normal metal side, and the magnetic susceptibility. The SCHA outcomes are in remarkable agreement with the results of the literature.

Phase transitions in the two-dimensional single-ion anisotropic ferromagnetic with long-range interactions

In the present work, we investigate the effects of long-range interactions on the phase transitions of two-dimensional ferromagnetic models with single-ion anisotropy at zero and finite temperatures. The Hamiltonian is given by $H=\sum_{i\neq j} J_{ij}(S_i^xS_j^x+S_i^yS_j^y+λS_i^zS_j^z)+D\sum_{i}(S_i^z)^2$, where $J_{ij}=-J |r_j-r_i|^{-p}$ ($p\geq 3$) is a long-range ferromagnetic interaction ($J>0$), $0\leq λ\leq 1$ is an anisotropic constant and $D$ is the single-ion anisotropic constant. It is well-known that the single-ion anisotropy $D$ creates a competition between an ordered state (favored by the exchange interaction) and a disordered state, even at zero temperature. For small values of $D$, the system has a spontaneous magnetization $m_z\neq 0$, while in the large-D phase $m_z=0$ because a state with $\langle S^z\rangle\neq 0$ is energetically unfavorable. Therefore, a phase transition due to quantum fluctuations occurs in some critical value $D_c$. For systems with short-range interaction $D_c\approx 6J$, depending of $λ$ constant, but in our model we have found larger values of $D$ due to the higher cost to flip a spin. Since low-dimensional magnetic systems with long range interaction can be ordered at finite temperature, we also have analyzed the thermal phase transitions (similar to the BKT transition). The model has been studied by using a Schwinger boson formalism as well as the Self-consistent Harmonic Approximation (SCHA) and both methods provide according results.

Analytical and Monte Carlo study of two antidots in magnetic nanodisks with vortex-like magnetization

How stable vortex-like magnetization in magnetic nanodisks with small aspect ratio ($L/R<<1$) is affected by two antidots is investigated analytically and by Monte Carlo simulations. For suitable ranges of the physical parameters this vortex presents bistable states when pinned around the antidots. The hysteresis loop obtained shows a central loop associated to the pinning mechanism of the vortex at the antidots. Our results agree qualitatively well with those provided by experiments and micromagnetic simulations.
