Kerr Black Holes within the Membrane Paradigm

We consider the membrane viewpoint a là Parikh-Wilczek on the Kerr solution for a rotating black hole. Computing the stress-energy tensor of a close-to-the-horizon stretched membrane and comparing it to the stress-tensor of a viscous fluid, we recover transport coefficients in terms of the Kerr geometry. Viscosities of the dual fluid remain constant, while the rest of the transport coefficients become complex functions of radial and angle coordinates. We study the qualitative behavior of the pressure, expansion, and energy/momentum densities for two specific black holes: the slowly rotating black hole, with the angular momentum of one percent of the black hole mass squared, and the extremal Kerr black hole. For the Kerr solution in the Boyer-Lindquist coordinates, these transport coefficients generally have poles at different values of the radial coordinate in the range between the horizon and the Schwarzschild radius of the black hole, in dependence on the fixed angle direction. We briefly discuss our findings in the context of a relation between the Membrane Paradigm and the AdS/CFT correspondence, the KSS bound violation, the coordinate choice, and a non-stationary extension of the Kerr solution.

Scattering on Quasi-Spherical Black-Holes: Features and Beyond

Recent developments in the gravitational waves interferometry require more pertinent theoretical models of gravitational waves generation and propagation. Untouched possible mechanisms of spin-2 spacetime perturbations production, we will consider their subsequent scattering on other black holes (BHs). Specifically, we consider a generalization of the Regge-Wheeler-Zerilli equations for the case of distorted BHs (BHs surrounded with matter) in Minkowski and Anti-de Sitter spacetimes, the metric potential of which obeys the Liouville equation. We establish significant differences in scattering characteristics of waves of different spins and angular momenta, including the gravitational waves, caused by losing the spherical symmetry of their propagation background. In particular, we demonstrate the strong impact of the background geometry deformation on the grey-body factors, hence on the absorption cross-sections of scattering waves, and explore the issue of stability of the background geometry upon changing the deformation degree parameters.

Quantum-gravitational trans-Planckian energy of a time-dependent black hole

We continue our recent endeavor in which a time-dependent black hole solution of a one-loop quantum-corrected Einstein-scalar system was obtained and its near-horizon behavior was analyzed. The energy analysis led to a trans-Planckian scaling behavior near the event horizon. In the present work the analysis is extended to a rotating black hole solution of an Einstein-Maxwell-scalar system with a Higgs potential. Although the analysis becomes much more complex compared to that of the previous, we observe the same basic features, including the quantum-gravitational trans-Planckian energy near the horizon.

Unifying the PST and the auxiliary tensor field formulations of 4D self-duality

We unify the Lorentz- and O(2) duality-covariant approach to 4D self-dual theories by Pasti, Sorokin and Tonin (PST) with the formulation involving an auxiliary tensor field. We present the basic features of the new hybrid approach, including symmetries of the relevant generalized PST action. Its salient peculiarity is the unique form of the realization of the PST gauge symmetries. The corresponding transformations do not affect the auxiliary tensor field, which guarantees the self-duality of the nonlinear actions in which the O(2) invariant interactions are constructed out of the tensor field.

ADM reduction of IIB on $H^{p,q}$ and dS braneworld

We propose a new Kaluza-Klein reduction scheme based on ADM decomposition. The scheme has been motivated by AdS/CFT, especially by how the worldvolume theory should appear from the supergravity side. We apply the scheme to IIB supergravity reduced on a 5D hyperboloidal $\cH^5$ space, and show that an (A)dS "braneworld" is be realized after further reduction to 4D. We comment on applications to cosmology and black hole physics. In particular, the scheme should provide a proper paradigm for black hole physics.

Tunneling dynamics in exactly-solvable models with triple-well potentials

Inspired by new trends in atomtronics, cold atoms devices and Bose-Einstein condensate dynamics, we apply a general technique of N=4 extended Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics to isospectral Hamiltonians with triple-well potentials, i.e. symmetric and asymmetric. Expressions of quantum-mechanical propagators, which take into account all states of the spectrum, are obtained, within the N = 4 SQM approach, in the closed form. For the initial Hamiltonian of a harmonic oscillator, we obtain the explicit expressions of potentials, wavefunctions and propagators. The obtained results are applied to tunneling dynamics of localized states in triple-well potentials and for studying its features. In particular, we observe a Josephson-type tunneling transition of a wave packet, the effect of its partial trapping and a non-monotonic dependence of tunneling dynamics on the shape of a three-well potential. We investigate, among others, the possibility of controlling tunneling transport by changing parameters of the central well, and we briefly discuss potential applications of this aspect to atomtronic devices.

$N^3$ entropy of M5 branes from dielectric effect

We observe that the $N^3$ entropy behavior of near-extermal M5 branes can be reproduced from SYM side with the role of Myers' terms. We start by generalizing the Klebanov-Tseytlin (KT) supergravity solution that displays the $N^3$ entropy behavior. The new feature of the general solution is visibility of the "internal" degrees of the M5 branes, i.e., the M0 branes and the M2 branes. With the rationale provided by the supergravity analysis, we consider a D0 brane quantum mechanical setup with Myers' terms. Using localization technique, we show that the leading $N^3$ behavior of the free energy comes from the "classical contribution" with the rest sub-leading.

Fuzzy Kaluza-Klein induced M2's from a single M5

We propose an algorithmic procedure of obtaining multiple M2 brane dynamics starting with an action of a single M5 brane. The procedure involves a novel Kaluza-Klein reduction. First, the M5 brane action is truncated to keep a few leading terms in the derivative expansion. Then 3+3 splitting of dimensions is carried out. With expansion in terms of the S*2 spherical harmonics, the fields are associated with SU(N) (or its infinite extension) gauge algebra. We present an elaborate reduction procedure that leads to ABJM theory when the fuzzy spherical harmonics are replaced by SU(N) gauge generators.

Near-Extremal Black Branes with n*3 Entropy Growth

In this paper, which is a companion to ArXiv:1204.2711[hep-th], we formulate a criterion for constructing 11D/10D maximal supergravity black-brane solutions with the near-extremal $S\sim n^3T^5$ entropy-temperature relation. We present explicit examples of such solutions with special attention paid to thermodynamics of black M-waves (KK-waves), intersecting/interpolating black branes with KK-waves, M2/M5 branes and their descents. We find the conditions on charges and numbers of branes in intersections, under which the dielectric effect of brane polarization becomes manifest on the supergravity side. We also briefly discuss the shear viscosity per entropy bound of M5 and D4 black branes within the AdS/CFT hydrodynamical limit.

Analytical approach to phase transitions in rotating and non-rotating 2D holographic superconductors

Analytical calculations of phase transitions in AdS3 Maxwell-scalar system, modeling a holographic superconductor, are performed in the probe limit of BTZ black hole background. Estimated values of the phase transition critical temperature and of the scalar boundary operator are compared with that obtained in numerical simulations. We discuss extensions of the model to topologically massive QED3 and to inclusion of external magnetic field. The latter becomes possible through the Barnett-London and the Lense-Thirring effects, but the former does not lead to any viable modifications. The standard setup of a holographic superconductor is extended to a rotating 2D holographic superconductor, and the main characteristics of the phase transition are calculated in the probe limit and in the small angular momentum approximation. We evaluate the feedback of the superconductor rotation on the phase transition and find the set of parameters, which lower the critical temperature in compare to the non-rotating case, or make it slightly higher.
