Column competent tensors and tensor complementarity problem

In multilinear algebra, some special classes of matrices are extended to higher order structured tensors. The local $w$-uniqueness solution to the linear complementarity problem can be identified by the column competent matrix. Motivated by this $w$-uniqueness property, we introduce column competent tensor in the context of tensor complementarity problem. We consider some important properties. In the theory of linear complementarity problem, column competent matrices are introduced to study local $w$-uniqueness property of LCP solution. We present the inheritance property and invariance property of column competent tensors. We study the tensor complementarity problem using column competent tensors and several results are established. Some examples are illustrated to support the results. Keywords: Tensor complementarity problem, column competent tensor, nondegenerate tensor, $ω$-solution. AMS subject classifications: 90C33, 90C30, 15A69, 46G25.

Error Bound for the Linear Complementarity Problem using Plus Function

In this article we establish error bound for linear complementarity problem with $P$-matrix using plus function. We introduce a fundamental quantity associated with a $P$-matrix and show how this quantity is useful in deriving error bounds for the linear complementarity problem of the $P$-type. We also obtain (upper and lower) bounds for the quantity introduced. Keywords: Linear complementarity problem, plus function, error bound, relative error bound.

More on homotopy continuation method and discounted zero-sum stochastic game with ARAT structure

In this paper, we introduce a homotopy function to trace the trajectory by applying modified homotopy continuation method for finding the solution of two-person zero-sum discounted stochastic ARAT game. We show that the algorithm has the higher order of convergence. For the proposed algorithm, the homotopy path approaching the solution is smooth and bounded. Two numerical examples are illustrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

On some properties of $ω$-uniqueness in tensor complementarity problem

In this article we introduce column adequate tensor in the context of tensor complementarity problem and consider some important properties. The tensor complementarity problem is a class of nonlinear complematarity problems with the involved function being defined by a tensor. We establish the inheritance property and invariant property of column adequate tensors. We show that TCP$(q,\mathcal{A})$ has $ω$-unique solution under some assumptions.

Solution of nonlinear system of equations through homotopy path

The paper aims to show the equivalency between nonlinear complementarity problem and the system of nonlinear equations. We propose a homotopy method with vector parameter $λ$ in finding the solution of nonlinear complementarity problem through a system of nonlinear equations. We propose a smooth and bounded homotopy path to obtain solution of the system of nonlinear equations under some conditions. An oligopolistic market equilibrium problem is considered to show the effectiveness of the proposed homotopy continuation method. Keywords: Nonlinear complementarity problem, system of nonlinear equations, homotopy function with vector parameter, bounded smooth curve, oligopolistic market equilibrium.

Solution of Tensor Complementarity Problem Using Homotopy Function

The paper aims to propose a suitable method in finding the solution of tensor complementarity problem. The tensor complementarity problem is a subclass of nonlinear complementarity problems for which the involved function is defined by a tensor. We propose a new homotopy function with smooth and bounded homotopy path to obtain solution of the tensor complementarity problem under some conditions. A homotopy continuation method is developed based on the proposed homotopy function. Several numerical examples are provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed homotopy continuation method.

Modality of Equilibration in Non-equilibrium Systems

An open question in the field of non-equilibrium statistical physics is whether there exists a unique way through which non-equilibrium systems equilibrate irrespective of how far they are away from equilibrium. To answer this question we have generated non-equilibrium states of various types of systems by molecular dynamics simulation technique. We have used a statistical method called system identification technique to understand the dynamical process of equilibration in reduced dimensional space. In this paper, we have tried to establish that the process of equilibration is unique.

Statistics of dislocation pinning at localized obstacles

Pinning of dislocations at nanosized obstacles like precipitates, voids and bubbles, is a crucial mechanism in the context of phenomena like hardening and creep. The interaction between such an obstacle and a dislocation is often explored at fundamental level by means of analytical tools, atomistic simulations and finite element methods. Nevertheless, the information extracted from such studies has not been utilized to its maximum extent on account of insufficient information about the underlying statistics of this process comprising a large number of dislocations and obstacles in a system. Here we propose a new statistical approach, where the statistics of pinning of dislocations by idealized spherical obstacles is explored by taking into account the generalized size-distribution of the obstacles along with the dislocation density within a three-dimensional framework. The application of this approach, in combination with the knowledge of fundamental dislocation-obstacle interactions, has successfully been demonstrated for dislocation pinning at nanovoids in neutron irradiated type 316-stainless steel in regard to both conservative and non-conservative motions of dislocations.

Quasistatic Stick-slip in Dislocation Core and Frenkel-Kontorova Chain

By means of atomistic simulations, we demonstrate that a dislocation core exhibits intermittent quasistatic restructuring during incremental shear within the same Peierls valley. This can be regarded as a stick-slip transition, which is also reproduced for a one-dimensional Frenkel-Kontorova chain under rigid boundary conditions. This occurs due to a discontinuous jump in an order parameter of the system, which signifies the extent of region forbidden for the presence of particles in the chain. The stick-slip phenomenon observed in the dislocation core is also shown to be reflected after dimensionality reduction of the multidimensional atomic coordinates, which provides a basis for comparison with the simple one-dimensional chain.

Mechanism of Climb in Dislocation-Nanovoid Interaction

We employ the methods of atomistic simulation to investigate the climb of edge dislocation at nanovoids by analyzing the energetics of the underlying mechanism. A novel simulation strategy has been demonstrated to estimate the release of surface energy of the nanovoid during the void induced climb. The curvature of the pinned dislocation segment is found to play a key role in mediating this unique mechanism of dislocation climb. Our study reveals that the kinetics of void-induced climb process is fundamentally distinct from the conventional diffusion-mediated climb.

Inertial Oscillations of Pinned Dislocations

Dislocation pinning plays a vital role in the plastic behaviour of a crystalline solid. Here we report the first observation of the damped oscillations of a mobile dislocation after it gets pinned at an obstacle in the presence of a constant static shear load. These oscillations are found to be inertial, instead of forced as obtained in the studies of internal friction of solid. The rate of damping enables us to determine the effective mass of the dislocation. Nevertheless, the observed relation between the oscillation frequency and the link length is found to be anomalous, when compared with the theoretical results in the framework of Koehler's vibrating string model. We assign this anomaly to the improper boundary conditions employed in the treatment. Finally, we propose that the inertial oscillations may offer a plausible explanation of the electromagnetic emissions during material deformation and seismic activities.
