Manifestations of Spinodal Decomposition into Dilute Pd$_{1-x}$Fe$_{x}$ "Phases" in Iron-Implanted Palladium Films: FMR Study

Palladium-iron alloys produced by high-dose implantation of iron ions into epitaxial palladium films were investigated with the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) techniques. The samples reveal distinct multiple FMR responses depending on the dose of iron ion implantation. The post-implantation annealing at 770 K does not bring the implanted films to a homogeneous solid solution state, as might be expected from the Pd-Fe phase diagram. On the contrary, the system approaches a stable state composed of several magnetic phases. FMR spectra exhibit an angular behavior specific for a stack of interacting magnetic layers. This observation, correlated with the magnetometry data, indicates that the palladium-iron binary alloy has a previously unknown tendency towards spinodal decomposition into isostructural phases with well-defined iron concentrations and, accordingly, with different temperatures of ferromagnetic ordering and saturation magnetizations.

EPR spectra and magnetization of XY-type rare-earth ions in pyrochlores Y$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$:RE$^{3+}$ (RE=Yb, Er)

The results of studies of Y$_{2}$Ti$_2$O$_7$ single crystals doped with Er$^{3+}$ and Yb$^{3+}$ ions by means of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and dc-magnetometry are reported. EPR signals of the trigonal centers with the characteristic hyperfine structure of Er$^{3+}$ or Yb$^{3+}$ ions were observed. Field dependences of magnetization of single crystals for magnetic fields directed along the crystallographic axes and temperature dependences of magnetic susceptibilities were measured. Spin Hamiltonian parameters ($g$-factors and parameters of the hyperfine interaction) for Er$^{3+}$ and Yb$^{3+}$ ions were obtained from analysis of experimental data. The registered EPR spectra and magnetization curves were successfully reproduced by simulations in framework of the crystal-field approach, in particular, with an account for hybridization of ground 4f$^{13}$ configuration of Yb$^{3+}$ ions with the charge transfer states.

The Spectral and Magnetic Properties of Er$^{3+}$ and Yb$^{3+}$ Ions in Y$_{2}$Ti$_{2}$O$_{7}$ Crystals with a Pyrochlore Structure

Cubic Y$_{2}$Ti$_{2}$O$_{7}$ single crystals doped with Er$^{3+}$ and Yb$^{3+}$ ions have been studied by the methods of electron spin resonance (ESR) and selective laser spectroscopy. ESR spectra exhibit signals from rare-earth ions that substitute for yttrium ions in sites with local trigonal symmetry. The $g$ tensor components are determined. The results of optical investigations indicate that impurity centers of several types are formed; the sublevel energies of the ground and excited multiplets of these centers are found. Among the great variety of detected optical centers, the centers that dominate in the formation of ESR spectra are discriminated. An analysis of the experimental data using the exchange-charge model have made it possible to determine the sets of parameters of the crystal field for Er$^{3+}$ and Yb$^{3+}$ ions substituting Y$^{3+}$ ions in regular crystallographic sites in pyrochlore Y$_{2}$Ti$_{2}$O$_{7}$.

Experimental manifestations of the Nb^{4+}-O^{-} polaronic excitons in KTa_{0.988}Nb_{0.012}O_{3}

The formation of the photo-polaronic excitons in ABO_{3} perovskite type oxides has been detected experimentally by means of the photoinduced electron paramagnetic resonance studies of KTa_{0.998}Nb_{0.012}O_{3} crystals. The corresponding microwave X-band spectrum at T < 10 K consists of a narrow, nearly isotropic signal located at g ~ 2 and a strongly anisotropic component. The first signal, which has a rich structure due to hyperfine interactions with the lattice nuclei, is attributed to the single trapped charge carriers: the electrons and/or the holes. The anisotropic spectrum is caused by the axial centers oriented along the C_{4} pseudo-cubic principal crystalline axes. The spectrum angular dependence can be described well by an axial center with S = 1, g_{\parallel) = 0.82, g_{\perp} = 0.52 and D = 0.44 cm^{-1}. The anisotropic spectrum is attributed to the Nb^{4+}-O^{-} polaronic excitons. The temperature dependence of the anisotropic component is characterized by two activation energies: the internal dynamics activation E_{a1} = 3.7\pm0.5 meV, which makes the EPR spectrum unobservable above 10 K, and the destruction energy E_{a2} = 52\pm4 meV. By comparing the anisotropic photo-EPR spectrum and the photoinduced optical absorption temperature dependencies, we found that the Nb^{4+}-O^{-} polaronic excitons also manifested themselves via the ~0.7 eV wide absorption band arising under UV light excitation in the weakly concentrated KTaO_{3}:Nb crystals.

The ENSDF_toolbox program package: tool for the evaluator of nuclear data

The program package for the work with the Evaluated Nuclear Structure Data File is discussed. The program shell designed for the unification of the process of the evaluation of the nuclear data is proposed. This program shell may be used in the regular work of the nuclear data evaluator and for common use by scientists and engineers who need the actual data about nuclear states and transitions from the ENSDF database.
