Retrieval of the atomic displacements in the crystal from the coherent x-ray diffraction pattern

We investigate the retrieval of spatially resolved atomic displacements via the phases of the direct(real)-space image reconstructed from the strained crystal's coherent x-ray diffraction pattern. We demonstrate that limiting the spatial variation of the first and second order spatial displacement derivatives improves convergence of the iterative phase retrieval algorithm for displacements reconstructions to the true solution. Our approach is exploited to retrieve the displacement in a periodic array of silicon lines isolated by silicon dioxide filled trenches.

A portable MBE system for in situ X-Ray investigations at synchrotron beamlines

A portable synchrotron MBE system is designed and applied for in situ investigations. The growth chamber is equipped with all the standard MBE components such as effusion cells with shutters, main shutter, cooling shroud, manipulator, RHEED setup and pressure gauges. The characteristic feature of the system is the beryllium windows which are used for in situ x-ray measurements. An UHV sample transfer case allows in-vacuo transfer of samples prepared elsewhere. We describe the system design and demonstrate it's performance by investigating the annealing process of buried InGaAs self organized quantum dots.

Improved success rate and stability for phase retrieval by including randomized overrelaxation in the hybrid input output algorithm

In this paper, we study the success rate of the reconstruction of objects of finite extent given the magnitude of its Fourier transform and its geometrical shape. We demonstrate that the commonly used combination of the hybrid input output and error reduction algorithm is significantly outperformed by an extension of this algorithm based on randomized overrelaxation. In most cases, this extension tremendously enhances the success rate of reconstructions for a fixed number of iterations as compared to reconstructions solely based on the traditional algorithm. The good scaling properties in terms of computational time and memory requirements of the original algorithm are not influenced by this extension.

Selective coherent x-ray diffractive imaging of displacement fields in (Ga,Mn)As/GaAs periodical wires

Coherent x-ray diffractive imaging is extended to high resolution strain analysis in crystalline nanostructured devices. The application potential is demonstrated by determining the strain distribution in (Ga,Mn)As/GaAs nanowires. By separating diffraction signals in reciprocal spaces, individual parts of the device could be reconstructed independently by our inversion procedure. We demonstrate the method to be effective for material specific reconstruction of strain distribution in highly integrated devices.
