The Moebius function and continuous extensions of rotations

preprint2014arXivOpen access

Abstract

Let f ⁣:T→Rf\colon \mathbb{T}\to \mathbb{R} be of class C1+δC^{1+δ} for some δ>0δ>0 and let c∈Zc\in\mathbb{Z}. We show that for a generic α∈Rα\in\mathbb{R}, the extension Tc,f ⁣:T2→T2T_{c,f}\colon \mathbb{T}^2\to\mathbb{T}^2 of the irrational rotation Tx=x+αTx=x+α, given by Tc,f(x,u)=(x+α,u+cx+f(x))T_{c,f}(x,u)=(x+α, u+cx+f(x)) ( mod  1\bmod\ 1) satisfies Sarnak's conjecture.
