The L'vov-Kaplansky Conjecture for Polynomials of Degree Three

preprint2025arXivOpen access

Abstract

The L'vov-Kaplansky conjecture states that the image of a multilinear noncommutative polynomial ff in the matrix algebra Mn(K)M_n(K) is a vector space for every n∈Nn \in {\mathbb N}. We prove this conjecture for the case where ff has degree 33 and KK is an algebraically closed field of characteristic 00.
