Perturbation of zero surfaces

preprint2016arXivOpen access

Abstract

It is proved that if a smooth function u(x)u(x), x∈R3x\in \mathbb{R}^3, such that inf⁡s∈S∣uN(s)∣>0\inf_{s\in S}|u_N(s)|>0, where uNu_N is the normal derivative of uu on SS, has a closed smooth surface SS of zeros, then the function u(x)+εv(x)u(x)+εv(x) has also a closed smooth surface SεS_ε of zeros. Here vv is a smooth function and ε>0ε>0 is a sufficiently small number.
