Abstract

We show that if γγ is a Jordan curve in R2\mathbb{R}^2 which is close to a C2C^2 Jordan curve ββ in R2\mathbb{R}^2, then γγ contains an inscribed square. In particular, if κ>0κ> 0 is the maximum unsigned curvature of ββ and there is a map ff from the image of γγ to the image of ββ with ∣∣f(x)−x∣∣<110κ||f(x) - x|| < \frac{1}{10 κ} and f∘γf \circ γ having winding number 11, then γγ has an inscribed square of positive sidelength.
