On biconservative surfaces in 3-dimensional space forms

preprint2015arXivOpen access

Abstract

We consider biconservative surfaces (M2,g)\left(M^2,g\right) in a space form N3(c)N^3(c), with mean curvature function ff satisfying f>0f>0 and ∇f≠0\nabla f\neq 0 at any point, and determine a certain Riemannian metric grg_r on MM such that (M2,gr)\left(M^2,g_r\right) is a Ricci surface in N3(c)N^3(c). We also obtain an intrinsic characterization of these biconservative surfaces.
