Graphs of bounded cliquewidth are polynomially χχ-bounded

Abstract

We prove that if C\mathcal{C} is a hereditary class of graphs that is polynomially χχ-bounded, then the class of graphs that admit decompositions into pieces belonging to C\mathcal{C} along cuts of bounded rank is also polynomially χχ-bounded. In particular, this implies that for every positive integer kk, the class of graphs of cliquewidth at most kk is polynomially χχ-bounded.
