A Less Restrictive Briançon-Skoda Theorem with Coefficients

preprint2010arXivOpen access

Abstract

The Briançon-Skoda theorem in its many versions has been studied by algebraists for several decades. In this paper, under some assumptions on an F-rational local ring $(R,\m)$, and an ideal II of RR of analytic spread ℓ\ell and height g<ℓg < \ell, we improve on two theorems by Aberbach and Huneke. Let JJ be a reduction of II. We first give results on when the integral closure of IℓI^\ell is contained in the product JIℓ−1J I_{\ell-1}, where Iℓ−1I_{\ell-1} is the intersection of the primary components of II of height ≤ℓ−1\leq \ell-1. In the case that RR is also Gorenstein, we give results on when the integral closure of Iℓ−1I^{\ell-1} is contained in JJ.
