A Note on Edge Colorings and Trees

We point out some connections between existence of homogenous sets for certain edge colorings and existence of branches in certain trees. As a consequence, we get that any locally additive coloring (a notion introduced in the paper) of a cardinal $κ$ has a homogeneous set of size $κ$ provided that the number of colors, $μ$ satisfies $μ^+<κ$. Another result is that an uncountable cardinal $κ$ is weakly compact if and only if $κ$ is regular, has the tree property and for each $λ,μ<κ$ there exists $κ^*<κ$ such that every tree of height $μ$ with $λ$ nodes has less than $κ^*$ branches.

A note on the NFI-topology

The $NFI$-topology, introduced in [S0], is a topology on the Stone space of a theory $T$ that depends on a reduct $T^-$ of $T$. This topology has been used in [S0] to describe the set of universal transducers for $(T,T^-)$ (invariants sets that translates forking-open sets in $T^-$ to forking-open sets in $T$). In this paper we show that in contrast to the stable case, the $NFI$-topology need not be invariant over parameters in $T^-$ but a weak version of this holds for any simple $T$. We also note that for the lovely pair expansions, of theories with the \em wnfcp\em , the topology is invariant over $\emptyset$ in $T^-$.

A model theoretic Baire category theorem for simple theories

We prove a model theoretic Baire category theorem for $\tildeτ_{low}^f$-sets in a countable simple theory in which the extension property is first-order and show some of its applications. We also prove a trichotomy for minimal types in countable nfcp theories: either every type that is internal in a minimal type is essentially-1-based by means of the forking topology or $T$ interprets an infinite definable 1-based group of finite $D$-rank or $T$ interprets a strongly-minimal formula.

On uncountable hypersimple unidimensional theories

We extend a dichotomy between 1-basedness and supersimplicity proved in a previous paper. The generalization we get is to arbitrary language, with no restrictions on the topology (we do not demand type-definabilty of the open set in the definition of essential 1-basedness). We conclude that every (possibly uncountable) hypersimple unidimensional theory that is not s-essentially 1-based by means of the forking topology is supersimple. We also obtain a strong version of the above dichotomy in the case where the language is countable.
