A Theoretical Diagnosis on Light Speed Anisotropy from GRAAL Experiment

The light speed anisotropy, i.e., the variation of the light speed with respect to the direction in an "absolute" reference frame, is a profound issue in physics. The one-way experiment, performed at the GRAAL facility of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, reported results on the light speed anisotropy by Compton scattering of laser photons on high-energy electrons. So far, most articles concerned with the GRAAL data have established only the upper bounds on the anisotropy parameters based on available theories. We use a new theory of the Lorentz invariance violation to analyse the available GRAAL data and obtain the stringent upper limit of the order $2.4\times10^{-14}$ on the Lorentz violation parameters. In the meantime, we also can reproduce the allowed light speed anisotropy appearing in the azimuthal distribution of the GRAAL experimental data, and find that the best-fit parameters are compatible with the competitive upper bounds.

Neutrino speed anomaly as signal of Lorentz violation

We make a reanalysis on the issue of neutrino speed anomaly by taking into account the newly reported data from the ICARUS experiment and other CNGS collaborations. We examine the consequence of the Lorentz violation on the neutrino speed in a new framework of standard model supplement (SMS), and find that the Lorentz violating parameters are constrained at least one order stronger than that of the earlier OPERA report. The combination with other phenomenological considerations puts more stringent constraints on the Lorentz violation of neutrinos.

New theory of Lorentz violation from a general principle

We report that a general principle of physical independence of mathematical background manifolds brings a replacement of common derivative operators by co-derivative ones. Then we obtain a new Lagrangian for the ordinary minimal standard model with supplementary terms containing the Lorentz invariance violation information measured by a new matrix, denoted as the Lorentz invariance violation matrix. We thus provide a new fundamental theory to study Lorentz invariance violation effects consistently and systematically.

On the rationality of the OPERA experiment as a signal of Lorentz violation

We show that the superluminal muon neutrinos in the recent OPERA experiment can exist theoretically. The refutation of the OPERA experiment from some theoretical arguments is not universally valid, but resulting from some implicit assumptions. Our argument can accommodate both the OPERA experiment for superluminal neutrinos and the ICARUS experiment of no evidence for the analogues Cherenkov radiation of muon neutrinos from CERN to the LNGS.

Lorentz Invariance Violation Matrix from a General Principle

We show that a general principle of physical independence or physical invariance of mathematical background manifold leads to a replacement of the common derivative operators by the covariant co-derivative ones. This replacement naturally induces a background matrix, by means of which we obtain an effective Lagrangian for the minimal standard model with supplement terms characterizing Lorentz invariance violation or anisotropy of space-time. We construct a simple model of the background matrix and find that the strength of Lorentz violation of proton in the photopion production is of the order $10^{-23}$.
