$T_{cc}^{+}(3875)$ relevant $DD^*$ scattering from $N_f=2$ lattice QCD

The $S$-wave $DD^*$ scattering in the isospin $I=0,1$ channels is studied in $N_f=2$ lattice QCD at $m_π\approx 350$ MeV. It is observed that the $DD^*$ interaction is repulsive in the $I=1$ channel when the $DD^*$ energy is near the $DD^*$ threshold. In contrast, the $DD^*$ interaction in the $I=0$ channel is definitely attractive in a wide range of the $DD^*$ energy. This is consistent with the isospin assignment $I=0$ for $T_{cc}^+(3875)$. By analyzing the components of the $DD^*$ correlation functions, it turns out that the quark diagram responsible for the different properties of $I=0,1$ $DD^*$ interactions can be understood as the charged $ρ$ meson exchange effect. This observation provides direct information on the internal dynamics of $T_{cc}^+(3875)$.

Annihilation diagram contribution to charmonium masses

In this work, we generate gauge configurations with $N_f=2$ dynamical charm quarks on anisotropic lattices. The mass shift of $1S$ and $1P$ charmonia owing to the charm quark annihilation effect can be investigated directly in a manner of unitary theory. The distillation method is adopted to treat the charm quark annihilation diagrams at a very precise level. For $1S$ charmonia, the charm quark annihilation effect almost does not change the $J/ψ$ mass, but lifts the $η_c$ mass by approximately 3-4 MeV. For $1P$ charmonia, this effect results in positive mass shifts of approximately 1 MeV for $χ_{c1}$ and $h_c$, but decreases the $χ_{c2}$ mass by approximately 3 MeV. We have not obtain a reliable result for the mass shift of $χ_{c0}$. In addition, it is observed that the spin averaged mass of the spin-triplet $1P$ charmonia is in a good agreement with the $h_c$, as expected by the non-relativistic quark model and measured by experiments.

RI/MOM and RI/SMOM renormalization of quark bilinear operators using overlap fermions

We present the vector, scalar and tensor renormalization constants (RCs) using overlap fermions with either regularization independent momentum subtraction (RI/MOM) or symmetric momentum subtraction (RI/SMOM) as the intermediate scheme on the lattice with lattice spacings $a$ from 0.04 fm to 0.12 fm. Our gauge field configurations from the MILC and RBC/UKQCD collaborations include sea quarks using either the domain wall or the HISQ action, respectively. The results show that RI/MOM and RI/SMOM can provide consistent renormalization constants to the $\overline{\textrm{MS}}$ scheme, after proper $a^2p^2$ extrapolations. But at $p\sim 2$\,GeV, both RI/MOM and RI/SMOM suffer from nonperturbative effects which cannot be removed by the perturbative matching. The comparison between the results with different sea actions also suggests that the renormalization constant is discernibly sensitive to the lattice spacing but not to the bare gauge coupling in the gauge action.

The Glueball content of $η_c$

We carry out the first lattice QCD derivation of the mixing energy and the mixing angle of the pseudoscalar charmonium and glueball on two gauge ensembles with $N_f=2$ degenerate dynamical charm quarks. The mixing energy is determined to be $49(6)$ MeV on the near physical charm ensemble, which seems insensitive to charm quark mass. By the assumption that $X(2370)$ is predominantly a pseudoscalar glueball, the mixing angle is determined to be approximately $4.6(6)^\circ$, which results in a $+3.9(9)$ MeV mass shift of the ground state pseudoscalar charmonium. In the mean time, the mixing can raise the total width of the pseudoscalar charmonium by 7.2(8) MeV, which explains to some extent the relative large total width of the $η_c$ meson. As a result, the branching fraction of $η_c\to γγ$ can be understood in this $c\bar{c}$-glueball mixing framework. On the other hand, the possible discrepancy of the theoretical predictions and the experimental results of the partial width of $J/ψ\toγη_c$ cannot be alleviated by the $c\bar{c}$-glueball mixing picture yet, which demands future precise experimental measurements of this partial width.

A Lattice Study of the Two-photon Decay Widths for Scalar and Pseudo-scalar Charmonium

In this exploratory study, two photon decay widths of pseudo-scalar ($η_c$) and scalar ($χ_{c0}$) charmonium are computed using two ensembles of $N_f=2$ twisted mass lattice QCD gauge configurations. The simulation is performed two lattice ensembles with lattice spacings $a=0.067$ fm with size $32^3\times{64}$ and $a=0.085$ fm with size $24^3\times{48}$, respectively. The results for the decay widths for the two charmonia are obtained which are in the right ballpark however smaller than the experimental ones. Possible reasons for these discrepancies are discussed.

Charmed and $ϕ$ meson decay constants from 2+1-flavor lattice QCD

On a lattice with 2+1-flavor dynamical domain-wall fermions at the physical pion mass, we calculate the decay constants of $D_{s}^{(*)}$, $D^{(*)}$ and $ϕ$. The lattice size is $48^3\times96$, which corresponds to a spatial extension of $\sim5.5$ fm with the lattice spacing $a\approx 0.114$ fm. For the valence light, strange and charm quarks, we use overlap fermions at several mass points close to their physical values. Our results at the physical point are $f_D=213(5)$ MeV, $f_{D_s}=249(7)$ MeV, $f_{D^*}=234(6)$ MeV, $f_{D_s^*}=274(7)$ MeV, and $f_ϕ=241(9)$ MeV. The couplings of $D^*$ and $D_s^*$ to the tensor current ($f_V^T$) can be derived, respectively, from the ratios $f_{D^*}^T/f_{D^*}=0.91(4)$ and $f_{D_s^*}^T/f_{D_s^*}=0.92(4)$, which are the first lattice QCD results. We also obtain the ratios $f_{D^*}/f_D=1.10(3)$ and $f_{D_s^*}/f_{D_s}=1.10(4)$, which reflect the size of heavy quark symmetry breaking in charmed mesons. The ratios $f_{D_s}/f_{D}=1.16(3)$ and $f_{D_s^*}/f_{D^*}=1.17(3)$ can be taken as a measure of SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking.

Strangeonium-like hybrids on the lattice

The strangeonium-like $s\bar{s}g$ hybrids are investigated from lattice QCD in the quenched approximation. In the Coulomb gauge, spatially extended operators are constructed for $1^{--}$ and $(0,1,2)^{-+}$ states with the color octet $s\bar{s}$ component being separated from the chromomagnetic field strength by spatial distances $r$, whose matrix elements between the vacuum and the corresponding states are interpreted as Bethe-Salpeter (BS) wave functions. In each of the $(1,2)^{-+}$ channels, the masses and the BS wave functions are reliably derived. The $1^{-+}$ ground state mass is around 2.1-2.2 GeV, and that of $2^{-+}$ is around 2.3-2.4 GeV, while the masses of the first excited states are roughly 1.4 GeV higher. This mass splitting is much larger than the expectation of the phenomenological flux-tube model or constituent gluon model for hybrids, which is usually a few hundred MeV. The BS wave functions with respect to $r$ show clear radial nodal structures of non-relativistic two-body system, which imply that $r$ is a meaningful dynamical variable for these hybrids and motivate a color halo picture of hybrids that the color octet $s\bar{s}$ is surrounded by gluonic degrees of freedom. In the $1^{--}$ channel, the properties of the lowest two states comply with those of $ϕ(1020)$ and $ϕ(1680)$. We have not obtained convincing information relevant to $ϕ(2170)$ yet, however, we argue that whether $ϕ(2170)$ is a conventional $s\bar{s}$ meson or a $s\bar{s}g$ hybrid within the color halo scenario, the ratio of partial decay widths $Γ(ϕη)$ and $Γ(ϕη')$ observed by BESIII can be understood by the mechanism of hadronic transition of a strangeonium-like meson along with the $η-η'$ mixing.

The nucleon isovector tensor charge from lattice QCD using chiral fermions

In this work we present the isovector flavor combination for the nucleon tensor charge extracted from lattice QCD simulations using overlap fermions on $N_f=2+1$ domain-wall configurations. The pion mass dependence is studied using six valence quark masses, each reproducing a value for the pion mass in the valence sector between 147 and 330 MeV. We investigate and eliminate systematic uncertainties due to contamination by excited states, by employing several values for the source-sink separation that span from 1 fm to 1.6 fm. We apply a chiral extrapolation in the valence sector using a quadratic and a logarithmic term to fit the pion mass dependence, which describes well the lattice data. The lattice matrix element is renormalized non-perturbatively, and the final result is $g_T=1.096(30)$ in the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme at a renormalization scale of 2 GeV.

Trace anomaly and dynamical quark mass

We investigated the origin of the RI'/MOM quark mass under the Landau gauge at the non-perturbative scale, using the chiral fermion with different quark masses and lattice spacings. Our result confirms that such a mass is non-vanishing based on the linear extrapolation to the chiral and continuum limit, and shows that such a mass comes from the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking induced by the near zero modes with the eigenvalue $λ<{\cal O}(5m_q)$, and is proportional to the quark matrix element of the trace anomaly at least down to $\sim $1.3 GeV.

A coupled-channel lattice study on the resonance-like structure $Z_c(3900)$

In this exploratory study, near-threshold scattering of $D$ and $\bar{D}^*$ meson is investigated using lattice QCD with $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass fermion configurations. The calculation is performed within the coupled-channel Lüscher's finite-size formalism. The study focuses on the channel with $I^G(J^{PC})=1^+(1^{+-})$ where the resonance-like structure $Z_c(3900)$ was discovered. We first identify the most relevant two channels of the problem and the lattice study is performed within the two-channel scattering model. Combined with a two-channel Ross-Shaw theory, scattering parameters are extracted from the energy levels by solving the generalized eigenvalue problem. Our results on the scattering length parameters suggest that, at the particular lattice parameters that we studied, the best fitted parameters do not correspond to a peak behavior in the elastic scattering cross section near the threshold. Furthermore, within the zero-range Ross-Shaw theory, the scenario of a narrow resonance close to the threshold is disfavored beyond $3σ$ level.

Spectrum and Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes of $Ω$ baryons from lattice QCD

The $Ω$ baryons with $J^P=3/2^\pm, 1/2^\pm$ are studied on the lattice in the quenched approximation. Their mass levels are ordered as $M_{3/2^+}<M_{3/2^-}\approx M_{1/2^-}<M_{1/2^+}$, as is expected from the constituent quark model. The mass values are also close to those of the four $Ω$ states observed in experiments, respectively. We calculate the Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes of $Ω(3/2^+)$ and $Ω(1/2^+)$ and find there is a radial node for the $Ω(1/2^+)$ Bethe-Salpeter amplitude, which may imply that $Ω(1/2^+)$ is an orbital excitation of $Ω$ baryons as a member of the $(D,L_N^P)=(70,0_2^+)$ supermultiplet in the $SU(6)\bigotimes O(3)$ quark model description. Our results are helpful for identifying the quantum number of experimentally observed $Ω$ states.

Two Photon Decays of $η_c$ from Lattice QCD

We present an exploratory lattice study for the two-photon decay of $η_c$ using $N_f=2$ twisted mass lattice QCD gauge configurations generated by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration. Two different lattice spacings of $a=0.067$fm and $a=0.085$fm are used in the study, both of which are of physical size of 2$fm$. The decay widths are found to be $1.025(5)$KeV for the coarser lattice and $1.062(5)$KeV for the finer lattice respectively where the errors are purely statistical. A naive extrapolation towards the continuum limit yields $Γ\simeq 1.122(14)$KeV which is smaller than the previous quenched result and most of the current experimental results. Possible reasons are discussed.

Charm and strange quark masses and $f_{D_s}$ from overlap fermions

We use overlap fermions as valence quarks to calculate meson masses in a wide quark mass range on the $2+1$-flavor domain-wall fermion gauge configurations generated by the RBC and UKQCD Collaborations. The well-defined quark masses in the overlap fermion formalism and the clear valence quark mass dependence of meson masses observed from the calculation facilitate a direct derivation of physical current quark masses through a global fit to the lattice data, which incorporates $O(a^2)$ and $O(m_c^4a^4)$ corrections, chiral extrapolation, and quark mass interpolation. Using the physical masses of $D_s$, $D_s^*$ and $J/ψ$ as inputs, Sommer's scale parameter $r_0$ and the masses of charm quark and strange quark in the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme are determined to be $r_0=0.465(4)(9)$ fm, $m_c^{\overline{\rm MS}}(2\,{\rm GeV})=1.118(6)(24)$ GeV (or $m_c^{\overline{\rm MS}}(m_c)=1.304(5)(20)$ GeV), and $m_s^{\overline{\rm MS}}(2\,{\rm GeV})=0.101(3)(6)\,{\rm GeV}$, respectively. Furthermore, we observe that the mass difference of the vector meson and the pseudoscalar meson with the same valence quark content is proportional to the reciprocal of the square root of the valence quark masses. The hyperfine splitting of charmonium, $M_{J/ψ}-M_{η_c}$, is determined to be 119(2)(7) MeV, which is in good agreement with the experimental value. We also predict the decay constant of $D_s$ to be $f_{D_s}=254(2)(4)$ MeV. The masses of charmonium $P$-wave states $χ_{c0}, χ_{c1}$ and $h_c$ are also in good agreement with experiments.

Diquark mass differences from unquenched lattice QCD

We calculate diquark correlation functions in the Landau gauge on the lattice using overlap valence quarks and 2+1-flavor domain wall fermion configurations. Quark masses are extracted from the scalar part of quark propagators in the Landau gauge. Scalar diquark quark mass difference and axial vector scalar diquark mass difference are obtained for diquarks composed of two light quarks and of a strange and a light quark. Light sea quark mass dependence of the results is examined. Two lattice spacings are used to check the discretization effects. The coarse and fine lattices are of sizes $24^3\times64$ and $32^3\times64$ with inverse spacings $1/a=1.75(4) {\rm~GeV}$ and $2.33(5) {\rm~GeV}$, respectively.

Low-energy Scattering of $(D^{*}\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ System and the Resonance-like Structure $Z_c(4025)$

In this paper, low-energy scattering of the $(D^{*}\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ meson system is studied within Lüscher's finite-size formalism using $N_{f}=2$ twisted mass gauge field configurations. With three different pion mass values, the $s$-wave threshold scattering parameters, namely the scattering length $a_0$ and the effective range $r_0$, are extracted in $J^P=1^+$ channel. Our results indicate that, in this particular channel, the interaction between the two vector charmed mesons is weakly repulsive in nature hence do not support the possibility of a shallow bound state for the two mesons, at least for the pion mass values being studied. This study provides some useful information on the nature of the newly discovered resonance-like structure $Z_c(4025)$ observed in various experiments.

Meson Mass Decomposition from Lattice QCD

Hadron masses can be decomposed as a sum of quark and glue components which are defined through hadronic matrix elements of QCD operators. The components consist of the quark mass term, the quark energy term, the glue energy term, and the trace anomaly term. We calculate these components for mesons with lattice QCD for the first time. The calculation is carried out with overlap fermion on $2+1$ flavor domain-wall fermion gauge configurations. We confirm that $\sim 50\%$ of the light pion mass comes from the quark mass term and $\sim 10\%$ comes from the quark energy; whereas, while for the $ρ$ meson, the quark energy contributes roughly half of its mass but the quark mass term contributes little. The combined glue components contribute $\sim 40 - 50\%$ for both mesons. It is interesting to observe that the quark mass contribution to the mass of the vector meson is almost linear in quark mass over a large quark mass region below the charm quark mass. For heavy mesons, the quark mass term dominates the masses, while the contribution from the glue components is about $200$ MeV (a bare value around 2GeV) for the heavy pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The charmonium hyperfine splitting is found to be dominated by the quark energy term which is consistent with the picture of the quark potential model.

Wave functions of $SU(3)$ pure gauge glueballs on the lattice

The Bethe-Salpeter wave functions of $SU(3)$ pure gauge glueballs are revisited in this study. The ground and the first excited states of scalar and tensor glueballs are identified unambiguously by using the variational method on the basis of large operator sets. We calculate their wave functions in the Coulomb gauge and use two lattices with different lattice spacings to check the discretization artifacts. For ground states, the radial wave functions are approximately Gaussian and the size of the tensor is twice as large as that of the scalar. For the first excited states, the radial nodes are clearly observed for both the scalar and the tensor glueballs, such that they can be interpreted as the first radial excitations. These observations may shed light on the theoretical understanding of the inner structure of glueballs.

Calculation of $B^0 \to K^{*0} μ^+ μ^-$ and $B_s^0 \to ϕμ^+ μ^-$ observables using form factors from lattice QCD

We calculate the differential branching fractions and angular distributions of the rare decays $B^0 \to K^{*0} μ^+ μ^-$ and $B_s^0 \to ϕμ^+ μ^-$, using for the first time form factors from unquenched lattice QCD. We focus on the kinematic region where the $K^*$ or $ϕ$ recoils softly; there the newly available form factors are most precise and the nonlocal matrix elements can be included via an operator product expansion. Our results for the differential branching fractions calculated in the Standard Model are higher than the experimental data. We consider the possibility that the deviations are caused by new physics, and perform a fit of the Wilson coefficients $C_9$ and $C_9^\prime$ to the experimental data for multiple $B^0 \to K^{*0} μ^+ μ^-$ and $B_s^0 \to ϕμ^+ μ^-$ observables. In agreement with recent results from complementary studies, we obtain $C_9-C_9^{SM} = -1.0 \pm 0.6$ and $C_9^\prime = 1.2 \pm 1.0$, whose deviations from zero would indicate the presence of non-standard fundamental interactions.

Lattice QCD calculation of form factors describing the rare decays $B \to K^* \ell^+ \ell^-$ and $B_s \to ϕ\ell^+ \ell^-$

The rare decays $B^0 \to K^{*0} μ^+ μ^-$ and $B_s \to ϕμ^+ μ^-$ are now being observed with enough precision to test Standard Model predictions. A full understanding of these decays requires accurate determinations of the corresponding hadronic form factors. Here we present results of lattice QCD calculations of the $B \to K^*$ and $B_s \to ϕ$ form factors; we also determine the form factors relevant for the tree-level decays $B_s \to K^* \ell ν$. We use full-QCD configurations including 2+1 flavors of sea quarks using an improved staggered action, and we employ lattice non-relativistic QCD to describe the bottom quark.

Low-energy Scattering of $(D\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ System And the Resonance-like Structure $Z_c(3900)$

In this exploratory lattice study, low-energy scattering of the $(D\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ meson system is analyzed using lattice QCD with $N_f=2$ twisted mass fermion configurations with three pion mass values. The calculation is performed within single-channel Lüscher's finite-size formalism. The threshold scattering parameters, namely the scattering length $a_0$ and the effective range $r_0$, for the $s$-wave scattering in $J^P=1^+$ channel are extracted. For the cases in our study, the interaction between the two charmed mesons is weakly repulsive. Our lattice results therefore do not support the possibility of a shallow bound state for the two mesons for the pion mass values we studied. This calculation provides some useful information on the nature of the newly discovered resonance-like structure $Z_c(3900)$ by various experimental groups.

Non-perturbative renormalization of overlap quark bilinears on 2+1-flavor domain wall fermion configurations

We present renormalization constants of overlap quark bilinear operators on 2+1-flavor domain wall fermion configurations. This setup is being used by the chiQCD collaboration in calculations of physical quantities such as strangeness in the nucleon and the strange and charm quark masses. The scale independent renormalization constant for the axial vector current is computed using the Ward Identity. The renormalization constants for scalar, pseudoscalar and vector current are calculated in the RI-MOM scheme. Results in the MS-bar scheme are also given. The step scaling function of quark masses in the RI-MOM scheme is computed as well. Oscillatory behavior of the domain wall fermions revisited

In the generic domain wall fermion formulation of chiral fermions on the lattice, the zero modes of the four-dimensional Wilson fermion operator with the negative mass parameter $-M_5$ introduce unphysical massive modes propagating in the four-dimensional spacetime. In the free fermion case, the pole mass of this kind of unphysical modes is given by $\tilde{E}=\ln(1-M_5)$, which acquires an imaginary part, $iπ$, when $M_5>1$ and results in an oscillatory behavior of the domain wall fermion propagator in time. The existence of the unphysical modes in the presence of gauge fields is investigated in the mean field approximation, and their physical consequences are discussed. In addition, we also give a semiquantitative criterion for tuning $M_5$ in the realistic numerical study.

Lattice study on $η_{c2}$ and X(3872)

Properties of $2^{-+}$ charmonium $η_{c2}$ are investigated in quenched lattice QCD. The mass of $η_{c2}$ is determined to be 3.80(3) GeV, which is close to the mass of $D$-wave charmonium $ψ(3770)$ and in agreement with quark model predictions. The transition width of $η_{c2}\to γJ/ψ$ is also obtained with a value $Γ=3.8(9)$ keV. Since the possible $2^{-+}$ assignment to X(3872) has not been ruled out by experiments, our results help to clarify the nature of X(3872).
