New Type of Quantum Oscillations Stemmed From the Strong Weyl Fermions - 4f Electrons Exchange Interaction

The interplay between magnetism and the topology of electronic band structure may generate new exotic quantum states. Here we report on a new type of quantum oscillations in the temperature dependent electrical resistivity and specific heat at a constant magnetic field in a polar magnetic Weyl semimetal (WSM) NdAlSi. These novel quantum phenomena arise from the destructive interference between quantum oscillations from the spin-split Fermi surfaces due to the strong Weyl fermions-4f electrons exchange interaction combined with Rashba-Dresselhaus (RD) and Zeeman effects. Our findings pave a way to explore unprecedented quantum phenomena in 4f-electron based magnetic semimetals.

MicroSQUID Force microscopy in a dilution refrigerator

We present a new generation of a scanning MicroSQUID microscope operating in an inverted dilution refrigerator. The MicroSQUIDs have a size of 1.21$ \ μ$m\textsuperscript{2} and a magnetic flux sensitivity of 120 $μΦ_{0} / \sqrt{\textrm{Hz}}$ and thus a field sensitivity of %$550^{-6} \ Φ_{0} / \sqrt{\textrm{Hz}}$ 550$ \ μ\textrm{G}/ \sqrt{\textrm{Hz}}$. The scan range at low temperatures is about 80 $μ$m and a coarse displacement of 5 mm in x and y direction has been implemented. The MicroSQUID-to-sample distance is regulated using a tuning fork based force detection. A MicroSQUID-to-sample distance of 420 nm has been obtained. The reliable knowledge of this distance is necessary to obtain a trustworthy estimate of the absolute value of the superconducting penetration depth. An outlook will be given on the ongoing direction of development.

Gap Anisotropy in Iron-Based Superconductors: A Point-Contact Andreev Reflection Study of BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_{x}$As$_2$ Single Crystals

We report a systematic investigation on c-axis point-contact Andreev reflection (PCAR) in BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_x$As$_2$ superconducting single crystals from underdoped to overdoped regions (0.075 $\leq x\leq 0.15$). At optimal doping ($x=0.1$) the PCAR spectrum feature the structures of two superconducting gap and electron-boson coupling mode. In the $s\pm$ scenario, quantitative analysis using a generalized Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk (BTK) formalism with two gaps: one isotropic and another angle dependent, suggest a nodeless state in strong-coupling limit with gap minima on the Fermi surfaces. Upon crossing above the optimal doping ($x > 0.1$), the PCAR spectrum show an in-gap sharp narrow peak at low bias, in contrast to the case of underdoped samples ($x < 0.1$), signaling the onset of deepened gap minima or nodes in the superconducting gap. This result provides evidence of the modulation of the gap amplitude with doping concentration, consistent with the calculations for the orbital dependent pair interaction mediated by the antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations.

Transport properties and asymmetric scattering in Ba$_{1-x}$K$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ single crystals compared to the electron doped counterparts Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_{x}$)$_{2}$As$_{2}$}

Resistivity, Hall effect and magnetoresistance have been investigated systematically on single crystals of Ba$_{1-x}$K$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ ranging from undoped to optimally doped regions. A systematic evolution of the quasiparticle scattering has been observed. It is found that the resistivity in the normal state of Ba$_{1-x}$K$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ is insensitive to the potassium doping concentration, which is very different from the electron doped counterpart Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_{x}$)$_{2}$As$_{2}$, where the resistivity at 300 K reduces to half value of the undoped one when the system is optimally doped. In stark contrast, the Hall coefficient R$_H$ changes suddenly from a negative value in the undoped sample to a positive one with slight K-doping, and it keeps lowering with further doping. We interpret this dichotomy due to the asymmetric scattering rate in the hole and the electron pockets with much higher mobility of the latter. The magnetoresistivity shows also a non-monotonic doping dependence indicating an anomalous feature at about 80 K to 100 K, even in the optimally doped sample, which is associated with a possible pseudogap feature. In the low temperature region, it seems that the resistivity has the similar values when superconductivity sets in disregarding the different T$_c$ values, which indicates a novel mechanism of the superconductivity. A linear feature of resistivity $ρ_{ab}$ vs. $T$ was observed just above $T_c$ for the optimally doped sample, suggesting a quantum criticality.

Precision Microwave Electrodynamic Measurements of K- and Co-doped BaFe$_2$As$_2$

We have studied the microwave electrodynamics of single crystal iron-based superconductors Ba$_{0.72}$K$_{0.28}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ (hole-doped, $T_\mathrm{c}$ $\approx $30 K) and Ba(Fe$_{0.95}$Co$_{0.05}$)$_2$As$_2$ (electron-doped, $T_\mathrm{c}$ $\approx$20 K), by cavity perturbation and broadband spectroscopy. SQUID magnetometry was used to confirm the quality and homogeneity of the samples under study. Through cavity perturbation techniques, the temperature dependence of the in-plane London penetration depth $Δλ(T)$, and therefore the superfluid phase stiffness $λ^2(0)/λ^2(T)$ was measured. Down to 0.4 K, the data do not show the exponential saturation at low temperatures expected from a singly-, fully-gapped superconductor. Rather, both the electron- and the hole-doped systems seem to be best described by a power law behavior, with $λ^2(0)/λ^2(T)$ $\sim$ $T^n$ and \emph{n} $\approx$ 2.5. In the three samples we studied, a weak feature near the sensitivity limit of our measurements appears near $T/T_\mathrm{c}$ =~0.04, hinting at a corresponding low energy feature in the superconducting density of states. The data can also be relatively well-described by a simple two-gap s-wave model of the order parameter, but this yields parameters which seem unrealistic and dependent on the fit range. Broadband surface resistance measurements reveal a sample dependent residual loss whose origin is unclear. The data from the \FeAs samples can be made to scale as $ω^2$ if the extrinsic loss is treated as an additive component, indicating large scattering rates. Finally, the temperature dependence of the surface resistance at 13 GHz obeys a power law very similar to those observed for $Δλ(T)$.
