Potential energy surface and formation of superheavy nuclei with the Skyrme energy-density functional

Within the framework of Skyrme energy-density functional theory, the nucleus-nucleus potential is calculated and potential energy surface is obtained with different effective forces for accurately estimating the formation cross sections of superheavy nuclei in massive fusion reactions. The width and height of the potential pocket are influenced by the Skyrme effective forces SkM, SkM$^{\ast}$, SkP, SIII, Ska and SLy4, which correspond to the different equation of state for the isospin symmetry nuclear matter. It is found that the nucleus-nucleus potential is associated with the collision orientation and Skyrme parameters. More repulsive nuclear potential is pronounced with increasing the incompressible modulus of nuclear matter. The available data in the fusion-evaporation reaction of $^{48}$Ca+$^{238}$U are nicely reproduced with the SkM$^{\ast}$ parameter by implementing into the dinuclear system model.

Production of neutron-rich actinide nuclides in isobaric collisions via multinucleon transfer reactions

We have calculated the multinucleon transfer reactions of $^{208}$Os, $^{208}$Pt, $^{208}$Hg, $^{208}$Pb,$^{208}$Po, $^{208}$Rn, $^{208}$Ra,$^{132,136}$Xe bombarding on $^{232}$Th and $^{248}$Cm at Coulomb barrier energies within the dinuclear system model, systematically. The results are in good agreement with the available experimental data. Coulomb effect and shell effect on production of actinides in these reactions have been investigated thoroughly. Potential energy surface and total kinetic energy mass distributions in the reactions $^{208}$Hg, $^{208}$Pb and$^{208}$Po colliding on $^{248}$Cm and $^{232}$Th are calculated and analyzed, respectively. It is found that PES and TKE spectra manifest the fragment formation mechanism in the multinucleon transfer reactions. The isospin effect and shell effect are shown in PES and TKE. Production cross-sections of multinucleon transfer products are highly dependent on the isobar projectiles with mass number $A=208$. The isobar projectiles with larger N/Z ratios are favorable for creating the neutron-rich target-like fragments. The isobar projectiles with larger charge number induced products tend to shift to proton-rich region. Coulomb potential coupled to shell effect is shown in production cross-sections of actinide isotopes. Based on the radioactive projectiles induced reactions, we have predicted massive new actinide isotopes around nuclear drip lines, even could access the superheavy nuclei region.

Rare Isotope Formation in Complete Fusion and Multinucleon Transfer Reactions in Collisions of 48Ca +248Cm around Coulomb Barrier Energies

Within the framework of the dinuclear system model, the reaction mechanisms for synthesizing target-like isotopes from Bk to compound nuclei Lv are thoroughly investigated in complete and incomplete fusion reaction of $^{48}$Ca +$^{248}$Cm around Coulomb barrier energies. Production cross-section of $^{292,293}$Lv as a function of excitation energy in fusion-evaporation reactions and target-like isotopic yields in multinucleon transfer reactions are evaluated, in which a statistical approach is used to describe the decay process of excited nuclei. The available experimental data can be reproduced well with the model reasonably. The products of all possible formed isotopes in the dynamical pre-equilibrium process for collision partners at incident energy $E_{\rm lab}$ = 5.5 MeV/nucleon are exported, systematically. It is found that the quasi-fission fragments are dominant in the yields. The optimal pathway from the target to compound nuclei shows up along the valley of potential surface energy. The effective impact parameter of two colliding partners leading to compound nuclei is selected from head-on collision to semi-central collision with $L$ = 52 $\rm \hbar$. The timescale boundary between complete fusion and multinucleon transfer reactions is about 5.7$\times 10^{-21}$ s with effective impact parameters. Synthesis cross-section of unknown neutron-rich actinides from Bk to Rf have been predicted around several nanobarns.

Solar system constraints of a polymer black hole in loop quantum gravity

A new polymer black hole solution in loop quantum gravity was proposed recently. The difference between the polymer black hole and Schwarzschild black hole is captured by a quantum parameter $A$. In order to get the constraints on parameter $A$, we consider the observational constraints imposed on $A$ by using the Solar System experiments and calculate the deflection of light, Shapiro time delay, perihelion precession and obtain the effects associated with parameter $A$. Moreover, the parameterized post-Newtonian approach of this loop quantum gravity black hole was also carried out. It turns out the tightest constraint on $A$ can be improved to $0<A<4.0\times10^{-6}$.

Transport Model Comparison Studies of Intermediate-Energy Heavy-Ion Collisions

Transport models are the main method to obtain physics information from low to relativistic-energy heavy-ion collisions. The Transport Model Evaluation Project (TMEP) has been pursued to test the robustness of transport model predictions in reaching consistent conclusions from the same type of physical model. Calculations under controlled conditions of physical input and set-up were performed with various participating codes. These included both calculations of nuclear matter in a box with periodic boundary conditions, and more realistic calculations of heavy-ion collisions. In this intermediate review, we summarize and discuss the present status of the project. We also provide condensed descriptions of the 26 participating codes, which contributed to some part of the project. These include the major codes in use today. We review the main results of the studies completed so far. They show, that in box calculations the differences between the codes can be well understood and a convergence of the results can be reached. These studies also highlight the systematic differences between the two families of transport codes, known as BUU and QMD type codes. However, when the codes were compared in full heavy-ion collisions using different physical models, as recently for pion production, they still yielded substantially different results. This calls for further comparisons of heavy-ion collisions with controlled models and of box comparisons of important ingredients, like momentum-dependent fields, which are currently underway. We often indicate improved strategies in performing transport simulations and thus provide guidance to code developers. Results of transport simulations of heavy-ion collisions from a given code will have more significance if the code can be validated against benchmark calculations such as the ones summarized in this review.

Hyperon dynamics and production of multi-strangeness hypernuclei in heavy-ion collisions at 3A GeV

Within the microscopic transport, systematic investigation of the many facets of hyperons and hypernuclei up to strangeness $S = -2$ are carried out for $^{197}$Au + $^{197}$Au and $^{40}$Ca + $^{40}$Ca at the incident energy of $3A$ GeV. The spatial, temporal and density distributions of hyperon production, absorption and freeze-out are thoroughly investigated. The rapidity and kinetic energy spectra of $Ξ$ hyperons and double $Λ$ hypernuclei are analyzed. It is revealed that the chemical balance of hyperon production is established in baryon-baryon channels while the opposite is found in baryon-meson channels. It turns out that the rapidity spectra of $^{4,5}_{ΛΛ}$X are single-peak and more than two orders of magnitude lower than that of $^{3}_Λ$H. Formation of double $Λ$ hypernuclei through $Ξ$ hypernuclei as intermediate states is also discussed in kinematics.

Production of neutron-rich heavy nuclei around N = 162 in multinucleon transfer reactions

Within the framework of the dinuclear system model, the production mechanism of neutron-rich heavy nuclei around N = 162 has been investigated systematically. The isotopic yields in the multinucleon transfer reaction of $^{238}$U + $^{248}$Cm was analyzed and compared the available experimental data. Systematics on the production of superheavy nuclei via $^{238}$U on $^{252,254}$Cf, $^{254}$Es and $^{257}$Fm is investigated. It is found that the shell effect is of importance in the formation of neutron-rich nuclei around N=162 owing to the enhancement of fission barrier. The fragments in the multinucleon transfer reactions manifest the broad isotopic distribution and are dependent on the beam energy. The polar angles of the fragments tend to the forward emission with increasing the beam energy. The production cross sections of new isotopes are estimated and heavier targets are available for the neutron-rich superheavy nucleus formation. The optimal system and beam energy are proposed for the future experimental measurements.

Systematics on production of superheavy nuclei $Z = 119-122$ in fusion-evaporation reactions

The fusion dynamics on the formation of superheavy nuclei is investigated thoroughly within the dinuclear system model. The Monte Carlo approach is implemented into the nucleon transfer process for including all possible orientations, at which the dinuclear system is assumed to be formed at the touching configuration of dinuclear fragments. The production cross sections of superheavy nuclei Cn, Fl, Lv, Ts and Og are calculated and compared with the available data from Dubna. The evaporation residue excitation functions in the channels of pure neutrons and charged particles are analyzed systematically. The combinations with $^{44}$Sc, $^{48,50}$Ti, $^{49,51}$V, $^{52,54}$Cr, $^{58,62}$Fe and $^{62,64}$Ni bombarding the actinide nuclides $^{238}$U, $^{244}$Pu, $^{248}$Cm, $^{247,249}$Bk, $^{249,251}$Cf, $^{252}$Es and $^{243}$Am are calculated for producing the superheavy elements with Z=119-122. It is found that the production cross sections sensitively depend on the neutron richness of reaction system. The structure of evaporation residue excitation function is related to the neutron separation energy and fission barrier of compound nucleus.

Production mechanism of neutron-deficient actinide isotopes in complete fusion reactions and multinucleon transfer reactions

Within the dinuclear system model, unknown neutron-deficient isotopes Np, Pu, Am, Cm, Bk, Cf, Es, Fm are investigated in $^{40}$Ca, $^{36,40}$Ar, $^{32}$S, $^{28}$Si,$^{24}$Mg induced fusion-evaporation reactions and multinucleon transfer reactions with radioactive beams $^{59}$Cu,$^{69}$As,$^{90}$Nb,$^{91}$Tc, $^{94}$Rh, $^{105,110}$Sn, $^{118}$Xe induced with $^{238}$U near Coulomb barrier energies. The production cross sections of compound nuclei in the fusion-evaporation reactions and fragments yields in the multinucleon transfer reactions are calculated within the model. A statistical approach is used to evaluate the survival probability of excited nuclei via the both reaction mechanisms. A dynamical deformation is implemented into the model in the dissipation process. It is found that charge particle channels (alpha and proton) dominate in the decay process of proton-rich nuclides and the fusion-evaporation reactions are favorable to produce the new neutron-deficient actinide isotopes. The total kinetic energies and angular spectra of primary fragments are strongly dependent on colliding orientations.

Strangeness production and hypernuclear formation in proton and antiproton induced reactions

Strange particles and hyperfragments in collisions of antiprotons and protons on nuclei have been investigated systematically within a microscopic transport model. The hyperons are produced from the annihilation in antibaryon-baryon collisions and strangeness exchange process in antiproton induced reactions. A coalescence approach is used for constructing the primary hyperfragments in phase space and the statistical model is modified for describing the decay of hyperfragments via evaporating hyperon, neutron, charged particles etc, in which the shell effect, binding energy and root-mean-square radii are taken into account. It is found that the influence of the hyperon-nucleon interaction on the free $Λ$ and $Ξ^{-}$ production is negligible. However, the large hyperfragment yields are obvious with the attractive potential. The production of double strangeness hyperfragments are reduced below 1$μb$ in comparison to the yields of $Λ$-hyperfragments with the cross sections of 0.05-0.1 mb in the antiproton induced reactions on $^{63}$Cu at the incident momenta of 1-5 GeV/c. The light hyperfragments are formed in the dynamical fragmentation process. The energy dependence of hyperfragment formation is weak once the incident energy above the threshold energy for the hyperon production.

Antiproton production in heavy-ion collisions at subthreshold energies

Within the framework of the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics model, the deep subthreshold antiproton production in heavy-ion collisions has been investigated thoroughly. The elastic scattering, annihilation and charge exchange reactions associated with antiproton channels are implemented in the model. The attractive antiproton potential extracted from the G-parity transformation of the nucleon selfenergies enhance the antiproton yields to some extent. The calculated invariant spectra are consistent with the available experimental data. The primordial antiproton yields increase with the mass number of colliding system. However, the annihilation reactions reduce the antiproton production and enable independent to colliding partners. Antiflow phenomena of antiprotons correlated to the mean-field potential and annihilation mechanism is found in comparison with proton flows.

Strangeness and hypernuclear production in fragmentation reactions induced by antikaons

Formation mechanism of hyperfragments with strangeness s=-1 and s=-2 in collisions of antikaons on nuclei has been investigated within a microscopic transport model. Dynamics of pseudoscalar mesons and hyperons is modeled within the transport model, in which all possible reaction channels for creating hyperons such as the elastic scattering, resonance production and decay, strangeness exchange reaction and direct strangeness production in meson-baryon and baryon-baryon collisions have been included. A coalescence approach is developed for constructing hyperfragments in phase space and the decay process is described with a statistical approach. It is found that the $Ξ^{-}$ production is correlated to the K$^{+}$ formation and the hyperons $Λ$ and $Σ$ are created within a broad rapidity region. The production cross sections of nucleonic fragments and hyperfragments weakly depends on the incident momentum. The yields of $Λ-$ hyperfragments are the six order of magnitude of $Ξ^{-}-$ hyperfragments.

To reach neutron-rich heavy and superheavy nuclei by multinucleon transfer reactions with radioactive isotopes

The dynamical mechanism of multinucleon transfer (MNT) reactions has been investigated within the dinuclear system (DNS) model, in which the sequential nucleon transfer is described by solving a set of microscopically derived master equations. Production cross sections, total kinetic energy spectra, angular distribution of formed fragments in the reactions of $^{124,132}$Sn+ $^{238}$U/$^{248}$Cm near Coulomb barrier energies are thoroughly analyzed. It is found that the total kinetic energies of primary fragments are dissipated from the relative motion energy and rotational energy of the two colliding nuclei. The fragments are formed in the forward angle domain. The energy dependence of the angular spectra is different between projectile-like and target-like fragments. Isospin equilibrium is governed under the potential energy surface. The production cross sections of neutron-rich isotopes are enhanced around the shell closure.

A Statistical Approach to Describe Highly Excited Heavy and Superheavy Nuclei

A statistical approach based on the Weisskopf evaporation theory has been developed to describe the de-excitation process of highly excited heavy and superheavy nuclei, in particular for the proton-rich nuclei. The excited nucleus is cooled by evaporating $γ$-ray, light particles (neutrons, protons, $α$ etc) in competition with the binary fission, in which the structure effects (shell correction, fission barrier, particle separation energy) contribute to the processes. The formation of residual nuclei is evaluated via sequential emission of possible particles above the separation energies. The available data of fusion-evaporation excitation functions in the $^{28}$Si+$^{198}$Pt reaction can be reproduced nicely well within the approach.

Isospin dynamics on neck fragmentation in isotopic nuclear reactions

The neck dynamics in Fermi-energy heavy-ion collisions, to probe the nuclear symmetry energy in the domain of sub-saturation densities, is investigated within an isospin dependent transport model. The single and double ratios of neutron/proton from free nucleons and light clusters (complex particles) in the isotopic reactions are analyzed systematically. Isospin effects of particles produced from the neck fragmentations are explored, which are constrained within the midrapidities ($|y/y_{proj}|<$0.3) and azimuthal angles (70$^{o}\sim$110$^{o}$, 250$^{o}\sim$290$^{o}$) in semiperipheral nuclear collisions. It is found that the ratios of the energetic isospin particles strongly depend on the stiffness of nuclear symmetry energy and the effects increase with softening the symmetry energy, which would be a nice probe for extracting the symmetry energy below the normal density in experimentally. A flat structure appears at the tail spectra from the double ratio distributions. The neutron to proton ratio of light intermediate mass fragments (IMFs) with charged number Z$\leq$8 is related to the density dependence of symmetry energy with less sensitivity in comparison to the isospin ratios of nucleons and light particles.

Nuclear fragmentation and charge-exchange reactions induced by pions in the $Δ$-resonance region

Dynamics of the nuclear fragmentations and the charge exchange reactions in pion-nucleus collisions near the $Δ$(1232) resonance energies has been investigated within the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics (LQMD) transport model. An isospin, momentum and density-dependent pion-nucleon potential is implemented in the model, which influences the pion dynamics, in particular the kinetic energy spectra, but weakly impacts the fragmentation mechanism. The absorption process in pion-nucleon collisions to form the $Δ$(1232) resonance dominates the heating mechanism of target nucleus. The excitation energy transferred to the target nucleus increases with the pion kinetic energy and is similar for both $π^{-}$ and $π^{+}$ induced reactions. The magnitude of fragmentation of target nucleus weakly depends on the pion energy. The isospin ratio in the pion double charge exchange is influenced by the isospin ingredient of target nucleus.

Nuclear fragmentation induced by low-energy antiprotons within a microscopic transport approach

Within the framework of the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics (LQMD) transport model, the nuclear fragmentation induced by low-energy antiprotons has been investigated thoroughly. A coalescence approach is developed for constructing the primary fragments in phase space. The secondary decay process of the fragments is described by the well-known statistical code. It is found that the localized energy released in antibaryon-baryon annihilation is deposited in a nucleus mainly via pion-nucleon collisions, which leads to the emissions of pre-equilibrium particles, fission, evaporation of nucleons and light fragments etc. The strangeness exchange reactions dominate the hyperon production. The averaged mass loss increases with the mass number of target nucleus. A bump structure in the domain of intermediate mass for heavy targets appears owing to the contribution of fission fragments.

Nuclear in-medium effects on $η$ dynamics in proton-nucleus collisions

The dynamics of $η$ meson produced in proton-induced nuclear reactions via the decay of N$^{\ast}(1535)$ has been investigated within the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics transport model (LQMD). The in-medium modifications of the $η$ production in dense nuclear matter are included in the model, in which an attractive $η$-nucleon potential is implemented. The impact of the $η$ optical potential on the $η$ dynamics is investigated. It is found that the attractive potential leads to the reduction of high-momentum (kinetic energy) production from the spectra of momentum distributions and inclusive cross sections and increasing the reabsorption process by surrounding nucleons.

Production of fragments and hyperfragments in antiproton-nucleus collisions

Formation mechanism of fragments with strangeness in collisions of antiprotons on nuclei has been investigated within the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics (LQMD) transport approach combined with a statistical model (GEMINI) for describing the decays of excited fragments. Production of strange particles in the antiproton induced nuclear reactions is modeled within the LQMD model, in which all possible reaction channels such as elastic scattering, annihilation, charge exchange and inelastic scattering in antibaryon-baryon, baryon-baryon and meson-baryon collisions have been included. A coalescence approach is developed for constructing hyperfragments in phase space after de-excitation of nucleonic fragments. The combined approach could describe the production of fragments in low-energy antiproton induced reactions. Hyperfragments are formed within the narrower rapidities and lower kinetic energies. It has advantage to produce heavier hyperfragments and hypernuclides with strangeness s=-2 (double-$Λ$ fragments) and s=1 ($\overlineΛ$-fragments) in antiproton induced reactions.

Understanding transport simulations of heavy-ion collisions at 100 and 400 AMeV: Comparison of heavy ion transport codes under controlled conditions

Transport simulations are very valuable for extracting physics information from heavy-ion collision experiments. With the emergence of many different transport codes in recent years, it becomes important to estimate their robustness in extracting physics information from experiments. We report on the results of a transport code comparison project. 18 commonly used transport codes were included in this comparison: 9 Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck-type codes and 9 Quantum-Molecular-Dynamics-type codes. These codes have been required to simulate Au+Au collisions using the same physics input for mean fields and for in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross sections, as well as the same initialization set-up, the impact parameter, and other calculational parameters at 100 and 400 AMeV incident energy. Among the codes we compare one-body observables such as rapidity and transverse flow distributions. We also monitor non-observables such as the initialization of the internal states of colliding nuclei and their stability, the collision rates and the Pauli blocking. We find that not completely identical initializations constitute partly for different evolutions. Different strategies to determine the collision probabilities, and to enforce the Pauli blocking, also produce considerably different results. There is a substantial spread in the predictions for the observables, which is much smaller at the higher incident energy. We quantify the uncertainties in the collective flow resulting from the simulation alone as about $30\%$ at 100 AMeV and $13\%$ at 400 AMeV, respectively. We propose further steps within the code comparison project to test the different aspects of transport simulations in a box calculation of infinite nuclear matter. This should, in particular, improve the robustness of transport model predictions at lower incident energies where abundant amounts of data are available.

In-medium and isospin effects on particle production near threshold energies in heavy-ion collisions

Dynamics of pseudoscalar mesons ($π$, $η$, $K$ and $\overline{K}$ ) and hyperons ($Λ$ and $Σ$) produced in heavy-ion collisions near threshold energies has been investigated within the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics (LQMD) transport model. The in-medium modifications on particle production in dense nuclear matter are implemented in the model through corrections on the elementary cross sections and by inclusion of the meson (hyperon)-nucleon potentials, in which the isospin effects are considered. It is found that the transportation of particles are influenced with the in-medium corrections. The total number of pions is reduced with an isospin, density and momentum dependent pion-nucleon potential. However, the ratios of charged pions is enhanced with inclusion of the potential. The production of eta in the domain of mid-rapidities and high momenta is sensitive to the $η$-nucleon potential, but weakly depends on symmetry energy. The attractive antikaon-nucleon potential enhances the subthreshold $\overline{K}$ production and also influences the structure of phase-space distributions. Dynamics of etas, kaons, antikaons and hyperons is also influenced by the pion potential because of collisions between pions and nucleons (resonances). The impacts of mean-field potentials on particle dynamics are investigated, such as the phase-space distributions from rapidity and transverse momentum spectra, inclusive invariant spectra, collective flows etc.

Nuclear dynamics induced by antiprotons

Reaction dynamics in collisions of antiprotons on nuclei is investigated within the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics model. The reaction channels of elastic scattering, annihilation, charge exchange and inelastic collisions of antiprotons on nucleons have been included in the model. Dynamics on particle production, in particular pions, kaons, antikaons and hyperons, is investigated in collisions of $\overline{p}$ on $^{12}$C, $^{20}$Ne, $^{40}$Ca and $^{181}$Ta from a low to high incident momenta. It is found that the annihilations of $\overline{p}$ on nucleons are of importance on the dynamics of particle production in phase space. Hyperons are mainly produced via meson induced reactions on nucleons and strangeness exchange collisions, which lead to the delayed emission in antiproton-nucleus collisions.

Production of heavy neutron-rich nuclei in transfer reactions within the dinuclear system model

The dynamics of nucleon transfer processes in heavy-ion collisions is investigated within the dinuclear system model. The production cross sections of nuclei in the reactions $^{136}$Xe+$^{208}$Pb and $^{238}$U+$^{248}$Cm are calculated and the calculations are in good agreement with the experimental data. The transfer cross sections for the $^{58}$Ni+$^{208}$Pb reaction are calculated and compared with the experimental data. We predict the production cross sections of neutron-rich nuclei $^{165-168}$Eu, $^{169-173}$Tb, $^{173-178}$Ho, and $^{181-185}$Yb based on the reaction $^{176}$Yb+$^{238}$U. It can be seen that the production cross sections of the neutron-rich nuclei $^{165}$Eu, $^{169}$Tb, $^{173}$Ho, and $^{181}$Yb are 2.84 $μ$b, 6.90 $μ$b, 46.24 $μ$b, and 53.61 $μ$b, respectively, which could be synthesized in experiment.

Nuclear in-medium effects of strange particles in proton-nucleus collisions

Dynamics of strange particles produced in proton induced nuclear reactions near threshold energies has been investigated within the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics (LQMD) transport model. The in-medium modifications on particle production in dense nuclear matter are considered through corrections on the elementary cross sections via the effective mass and the mean-field potentials. It is found that the attractive antikaon-nucleon potential enhances the subthreshold $\bar{K}$ production and also influences the structure of inclusive spectra. The strangeness production is strongly suppressed in proton induced reactions in comparison to heavy-ion collisions. The measured K$^{-}$/K$^{+}$ ratios in the $^{12}$C+$^{12}$C and p+$^{12}$C collisions from KaoS collaboration have been well explained with inclusion of the in-medium potentials.

Particle production in antiproton induced nuclear reactions

The quantum molecular dynamics model has been improved to investigate the reaction dynamics induced by antiprotons. The reaction channels of elastic scattering, annihilation, charge exchange and inelastic collisions have been included in the model. Dynamics on particle production, in particular pions, kaons, antikaons and hyperons, is investigated in collisions of $\overline{p}$ on $^{12}$C, $^{20}$Ne, $^{40}$Ca, $^{112}$Sn, $^{181}$Ta, $^{197}$Au and $^{238}$U from a low to high incident momentum. The rapidity and momentum distributions of $π^{+}$ and protons from the LEAR measurements can be well reproduced. The impacts of system size and incident momentum on particle emissions are investigated from the inclusive spectra, transverse momentum and rapidity distributions. It is found that the annihilations of $\overline{p}$ on nucleons are of importance on the particle production. Hyperons are mainly produced via meson induced reactions on nucleons and strangeness exchange collisions when the incident momentum is below the threshold value of annihilation reaction. A higher nuclear temperature is obtained from the kaon emission, but it has a lower value for hyperon production.

Dynamics of strangeness and collective flows in heavy-ion collisions near threshold energies

Strangeness (K$^{0,+}$, $Λ$ and $Σ^{-,0,+}$) production in heavy-ion collisions near threshold energies has been investigated within the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics (LQMD) transport model. The kaon (anti-kaon)-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon potentials in dense nuclear matter are implemented in the model, which are computed from the chiral perturbation approach and the relativistic mean-field model, respectively. It is found that the in-medium potentials change the structure of transverse flow, and also affect the rapidity distributions and the inclusive spectra for strangeness production. The local temperature of the fire ball extracted from the kaon spectra of inclusive invariant cross sections is influenced by the kaon-nucleon potential. The stiffness of nuclear symmetry energy and the kaon-nucleon potential by distinguishing isospin effect play a significant role on the ratio of K$^{0}$/K$^{+}$, in particular at the subthreshold energies. The ratio of $Σ^{-}/Σ^{+}$ depends on the high-density symmetry energy, in which the $Σ$-nucleon potential has a neglectable contribution on the isospin ratio.

Nuclear in-medium and isospin effects on subthreshold kaon production in heavy-ion collisions

Subthreshold kaon (K$^{0}$ and K$^{+}$) production in neutron-rich nuclear reactions to probe the kaon-nucleon interaction in nuclear medium and to extract the isospin dependent part of the nuclear equation of state at high-baryon densities, is investigated within an isospin and momentum dependent transport model. A repulsive kaon-nucleon potential is implemented in the model through fitting the flow data and inclusive spectra in heavy-ion collisions, which enhances the energetic kaon emission squeezed out in the reaction zone and leads to a variation of the high-momentum spectrum of the K$^{0}$/K$^{+}$ yields. It is found that the stiffness of nuclear symmetry energy plays a significant role on the isospin ratio with decreasing the incident energy and a hard symmetry energy has a larger value of the K$^{0}$/K$^{+}$ ratio in the domain of subthreshold energies.

Constraining the high-density behavior of nuclear equation of state from strangeness production in heavy-ion collisions

The dynamics of pions and strange particles in heavy-ion collisions in the region of 1A GeV energies is investigated by the lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics model for probing the nuclear equation of state at supra-saturation densities. The total multiplicities and the ratios obtained in $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au over $^{12}$C+$^{12}$C systems are calculated for selected Skyrme parameters SkP, SLy6, Ska and SIII, which correspond to different modulus of incompressibility of symmetric nuclear matter and different cases of the stiffness of symmetry energy. A decrease trend of the excitation functions of the ratios for strange particle production with increasing incident energy was observed. The available data of K$^{+}$ production measured by KaoS collaboration are described well with the parameter SkP, which results in a soft equation of state. The conclusions can not be modified by an in-medium kaon-nucleon potential.

Dynamics in the production of superheavy nuclei in low-energy heavy-ion collisions

We present a review of the recent progress of theoretical models on the description of the formation of superheavy nuclei in collisions of heavy systems. Two sorts of reactions that are the fusion-evaporation mechanism and the massive damped collisions to produce superheavy nuclei are discussed. Problems and further improvements of the capture of colliding partners, the formation of compound nucleus and the de-excitation process are pointed out. Possible combinations in the synthesis of the gap of the cold fusion and $^{48}$Ca induced reactions are proposed by the calculations based on the dinuclear system model and also compared with other approaches. The synthesis of neutron-rich heavy isotopes near sub-shell closure N=162 via transfer reactions in the damped collisions of two actinides and the influence of shell closure on the production of heavy isotopes are investigated. Prospective possibility to reach superheavy nuclei near N=184 via neutron-rich radioactive beams of high intensity in the future is discussed.

Effective mass splitting of neutron and proton and isospin emission in heavy-ion collisions

Within the framework of an isospin and momentum dependent transport model, the emissions of isospin particles (nucleons and light clusters) squeezed out in heavy-ion collisions are investigated as probes of the poorly known symmetry energy at high baryon density. Two different mass splittings of neutrons and protons in nuclear medium as $m_{n}^{\ast}>m_{p}^{\ast}$ and $m_{n}^{\ast}<m_{p}^{\ast}$ are used in the model and their influence on the isospin emission in heavy-ion collisions is discussed thoroughly. The competition between the stiffness and the momentum dependence of the symmetry potential on reaction dynamics are compared and systematically analyzed. It is found that the difference of the neutron and proton directed flows and the transverse momentum distribution of the neutron/proton ratio are sensitive to the stiffness of the symmetry energy, which can not be changed with the controversial effective mass splitting. The elliptic flows of free nucleons at high transverse momentum within mid-rapidity emission are a promising observable as distinguishing the nucleon effective mass splitting.

Momentum dependence of the symmetry potential and its influence on nuclear reactions

A Skyrme-type momentum-dependent nucleon-nucleon force distinguishing isospin effect is parameterized and further implemented in the Lanzhou Quantum Molecular Dynamics (LQMD) model for the first time, which leads to a splitting of nucleon effective mass in nuclear matter. Based on the isospin- and momentum-dependent transport model, we investigate the influence of momentum-dependent symmetry potential on several isospin-sensitive observables in heavy-ion collisions. It is found that symmetry potentials with and without the momentum dependence but corresponding to the same density dependence of the symmetry energy result in different distributions of the observables. The mid-rapidity neutron/proton ratios at high transverse momenta and the excitation functions of the total $π^{-}/π^{+}$ and $K^{0}/K^{+}$ yields are particularly sensitive to the momentum dependence of the symmetry potential.

Nuclear in-medium effects and collective flows in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies

A recent updated version of the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics is reviewed, in which the momentum dependence of symmetry potential and the effective mass splitting of proton and neutron in nuclear medium are included in the model. The in-medium nucleon-nucleon (NN) elastic cross sections are evaluated with the scaling approach according to the effective mass and their influence on collective flows in heavy-ion collisions are discussed. The inelastic cross sections, in particular for the process of the channel N$Δ\rightarrow$NN, are parameterized in accordance with the available experimental data. It is found that the in-medium cross sections play a significant role on isospin emissions and result in a flat distribution for transverse flows and elliptic flows of free nucleons comparing with the in-vacuum ones. The rapidity distribution of the difference between neutron and proton transverse flows is sensitive to the stiffness of nuclear symmetry energy as a promising observable, which can not be influenced by the in-medium effect and collision centrality. Furthermore, the elliptic flow of free energetic nucleons in the case of the mass splitting of $m_{n}^{\ast}>m_{p}^{\ast}$ is also related to the symmetry energy. However, the pion flows weakly depend on the symmetry energy and the mass splitting.

Transverse emission of isospin ratios as a probe of high-density symmetry energy in isotopic nuclear reactions

Transverse emission of preequilibrium nucleons, light clusters (complex particles) and charged pions from the isotopic $^{112,124}$Sn+$^{112,124}$Sn reactions at a beam energy of 400\emph{A} MeV, to extract the high-density behavior of nuclear symmetry energy, are investigated within an isospin and momentum dependent transport model. Specifically, the double ratios of neutron/proton, triton/helium-3 and $π^{-}/π^{+}$ in the squeeze-out domain are analyzed systematically, which have the advantage of reducing the influence of the Coulomb force and less systematic errors. It is found that the transverse momentum distribution of isospin ratios strongly depend on the stiffness of nuclear symmetry energy, which would be a nice observable to extract the high-density symmetry energy. The collision centrality and the mass splitting of neutron and proton in nuclear medium play a significant role on the distribution structure of the ratios, but does not change the influence of symmetry energy on the spectrum.

Dynamics of pion production in heavy-ion collisions around 1A GeV energies

Within the framework of the improved isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics (ImIQMD) model, the dynamics of pion emission in heavy-ion collisions in the region 1 A GeV as a probe of nuclear symmetry energy at supra-saturation densities is investigated systematically. The total pion multiplicities and the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ yields are calculated for selected Skyrme parameters SkP, SLy6, Ska and SIII, and also for the cases of different stiffness of symmetry energy with the parameter SLy6. The influence of Coulomb potential, symmetry energy and in-medium pion potential on the pion production is investigated and compared each other by analyzing the distributions of transverse momentum and longitudinal rapidity and also the excitation functions of the total pion and the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio. The directed flow, elliptic flow and polar angle distributions are calculated at the cases of different collision centralities and symmetry energies.

Dynamics of strangeness production in heavy-ion collisions near threshold energies

Within the framework of the improved isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics (ImIQMD) model, the dynamics of strangeness (K$^{0,+}$, $Λ$ and $Σ^{-,0,+}$) production in heavy-ion collisions near threshold energies is investigated systematically, in which the strange particles are considered to be mainly produced by the inelastic collisions of baryon-baryon and pion-baryon. The collisions in the region of supra-saturation densities of the dense baryonic matter formed in heavy-ion collisions dominate the yields of strangeness production. The total multiplicities as functions of incident energies and collision centralities are calculated with the Skyrme parameter SLy6. The excitation function of strangeness production is analyzed and also compared with the KaoS data for the K$^{+}$ production in the reactions $^{12}$C+$^{12}$C and $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au.

Probing high-density behavior of symmetry energy from pion emission in heavy-ion collisions

Within the framework of the improved isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics (ImIQMD) model, the emission of pion in heavy-ion collisions in the region 1 A GeV as a probe of nuclear symmetry energy at supra-saturation densities is investigated systematically, in which the pion is considered to be mainly produced by the decay of resonances $\triangle$(1232) and N*(1440). The total pion multiplicities and the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ yields are calculated for selected Skyrme parameters SkP, SLy6, Ska and SIII, and also for the cases of different stiffness of symmetry energy with the parameter SLy6. Preliminary results compared with the measured data by the FOPI collaboration favor a hard symmetry energy of the potential term proportional to $(ρ/ρ_{0})^{γ_{s}}$ with $γ_{s}=2$.

Production of heavy isotopes in transfer reactions by collisions of $^{238}$U+$^{238}$U

The dynamics of transfer reactions in collisions of two very heavy nuclei $^{238}$U+$^{238}$U is studied within the dinuclear system (DNS) model. Collisions of two actinide nuclei form a super heavy composite system during a very short time, in which a large number of charge and mass transfers may take place. Such reactions have been investigated experimentally as an alternative way for the production of heavy and superheavy nuclei. The role of collision orientation in the production cross sections of heavy nuclides is analyzed systematically. Calculations show that the cross sections decrease drastically with increasing the charged numbers of heavy fragments. The transfer mechanism is favorable to synthesize heavy neutron-rich isotopes, such as nuclei around the subclosure at N=162 from No (Z=102) to Db (Z=105).

Influence of entrance channels on formation of superheavy nuclei in massive fusion reactions

Within the framework of the dinuclear system (DNS) model, the production cross sections of superheavy nuclei Hs (Z=108) and Z=112 combined with different reaction systems are analyzed systematically. It is found that the mass asymmetries and the reaction Q values of the combinations play a very important role on the formation cross sections of the evaporation residues. Both methods by solving the master equations along the mass asymmetry degree of freedom (1D) and along the proton and the neutron degrees of freedom (2D) are compared each other and with the available experimental results.

Production of new superheavy Z=108-114 nuclei with $^{238}$U, $^{244}$Pu and $^{248,250}$Cm targets

Within the framework of the dinuclear system (DNS) model, production cross sections of new superheavy nuclei with charged numbers Z=108-114 are analyzed systematically. Possible combinations based on the actinide nuclides $^{238}$U, $^{244}$Pu and $^{248,250}$Cm with the optimal excitation energies and evaporation channels are pointed out to synthesize new isotopes which lie between the nuclides produced in the cold fusion and the $^{48}$Ca induced fusion reactions experimentally, which are feasible to be constructed experimentally. It is found that the production cross sections of superheavy nuclei decrease drastically with the charged numbers of compound nuclei. Larger mass asymmetries of the entrance channels enhance the cross sections in 2n-5n channels.
