D=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills quantum mechanics with three colors

The spectrum of the $D=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills quantum mechanics with $SU(3)$ gauge group symmetry is computed in different channels with definite total angular momentum and the total number of fermions. In sectors with small number of fermions the spectrum is shown to be purely discrete. Continuous spectrum appears in channels with more fermions. Supersymmetry generators are used to identify supermultiplets and determine the level of restoration of supersymmetry for a finite cutoff.

Four dimensional supersymmetric Yang-Mills quantum mechanics with three colors

The $D=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills quantum mechanics with $SU(2)$ and $SU(3)$ gauge symmetry groups is studied. A numerical method to find finite matrix representation of the Hamiltonian is presented in detail. It is used to find spectrum of the theory. In the $SU(2)$ case there are bound states in all channels with definite total number of fermions and angular momentum. For 2,3,4 fermions continuous and discrete spectra coexist in the same range of energies. These results are confirmation of earlier studies. With $SU(3)$ gauge group, the continuous spectrum is moved to sectors with more fermions. Supersymmetry generators are used to identify supermultiplets and determine the level of restoration of supersymmetry for a finite cutoff. For both theories, with $SU(2)$ and $SU(3)$ symmetry, wavefunctions are studied and different behavior of bound and scattering states is observed.

Numerical investigations of Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Quantum Mechanics with 4 supercharges

We report on our non-perturbative investigations of supersymmetric Yang-Mills quantum mechanics with 4 supercharges. We employ two independent numerical methods. First of them is the cut Fock space method whose numerical implementation was recently generalized to include the SU(N) gauge group. It allowed us to calculate for the first time the spectrum of the model with SU(3) symmetry in all fermionic sectors. Independently, we implemented the Rational Hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm and reproduced the accessible part of the low-energy spectrum of the model with SU(2) gauge symmetry. We argue that by simulating at imaginary chemical potential one can get access to observables defined in sectors of Hilbert space with a given quark number.

String picture of 1+1 dimensional QED in light--front formulation

We study quantum electrodynamics in 1+1 dimensions in the light--front frame using numerical methods. We analyze confinement and charge screening which are key features of this system. By direct analysis of wavefunctions of bound states in two parton sector we determine the string tension. In four parton sector we introduce inclusive distributions and inspect structure of energy eigenstates. We conclude that they are composed of two weakly interacting $f\bar f$ pairs. These four particle states are responsible for the screening. Finally, we study time evolution of a fermion--antifermion state separated by a specific distance. We demonstrate that for sufficient separation it decays into a multiparton state and the number of particles in the product depends on separation of particles.

Tunneling in cosine potential with periodic boundary conditions

In this paper we discuss three methods to calculate energy splitting in cosine potential on a circle, Bloch waves, semi--classical approximation and restricted basis approach. While the Bloch wave method gives only a qualitative result, with the WKB method we are able to determine its unknown coefficients. The numerical approach is most exact and enables us to extract further corrections to previous results.

Tunneling with Tamm-Dancoff method

The tunneling effect is the most popular phenomenon of quantum physics and is present in modern physical theories. Still, the most important features of this effect are already present in toy models - low dimensional quantum mechanics with high potential barriers. Even these simple systems cannot be solved analytically and approximations have to be made. Tunneling is closely related to splitting of the ground state energy which is degenerate in the classical limit. In this thesis we use two methods to estimate the energy splitting in one dimensional quantum mechanics. In semi-classical approximation the splitting is calculated in the weak coupling limit. The other approach, Tamm-Dancoff method gives very precise numerical results for finite coupling. Comparing these two approaches we are able to confirm results of the semi-classical approximation and determine range of its applicability. Several potentials are considered: anharmonic double well, cosine potential and cosine potential in periodic space with finite number of minima. We also address a non-generic problem of anharmonic triple well potential.
