Confluent Chains of DBT: Enlarged Shape Invariance and New Orthogonal Polynomials

We construct rational extensions of the Darboux-Pöschl-Teller and isotonic potentials via two-step confluent Darboux transformations. The former are strictly isospectral to the initial potential, whereas the latter are only quasi-isospectral. Both are associated to new families of orthogonal polynomials, which, in the first case, depend on a continuous parameter. We also prove that these extended potentials possess an enlarged shape invariance property.

Rational extensions of the quantum harmonic oscillator and exceptional Hermite polynomials

We prove that every rational extension of the quantum harmonic oscillator that is exactly solvable by polynomials is monodromy free, and therefore can be obtained by applying a finite number of state-deleting Darboux transformations on the harmonic oscillator. Equivalently, every exceptional orthogonal polynomial system of Hermite type can be obtained by applying a Darboux-Crum transformation to the classical Hermite polynomials. Exceptional Hermite polynomial systems only exist for even codimension 2m, and they are indexed by the partitions λof m. We provide explicit expressions for their corresponding orthogonality weights and differential operators and a separate proof of their completeness. Exceptional Hermite polynomials satisfy a 2l+3 recurrence relation where l is the length of the partition λ. Explicit expressions for such recurrence relations are given.

Disconjugacy, regularity of multi-indexed rationally-extended potentials, and Laguerre exceptional polynomials

The power of the disconjugacy properties of second-order differential equations of Schrödinger type to check the regularity of rationally-extended quantum potentials connected with exceptional orthogonal polynomials is illustrated by re-examining the extensions of the isotonic oscillator (or radial oscillator) potential derived in kth-order supersymmetric quantum mechanics or multistep Darboux-Bäcklund transformation method. The function arising in the potential denominator is proved to be a polynomial with a nonvanishing constant term, whose value is calculated by induction over k. The sign of this term being the same as that of the already known highest-degree term, the potential denominator has the same sign at both extremities of the definition interval, a property that is shared by the seed eigenfunction used in the potential construction. By virtue of disconjugacy, such a property implies the nodeless character of both the eigenfunction and the resulting potential.

New rational extensions of solvable potentials with finite bound state spectrum

Using the disconjugacy properties of the Schrödinger equation, it is possible to develop a new type of generalized SUSY QM partnership which allows to generate new solvable rational extensions for translationally shape invariant potentials having a finite bound state spectrum. For this we prolong the dispersion relation relating the energy to the quantum number out of the physical domain until a disconjugacy sector. The prolonged excited states Riccati-Schrödinger (RS) functions are used to build Darboux-Bäcklund transforms which give regular isospectral extensions of the initial potential. We give the spectra of these extensions in terms of new orthogonal polynomials and study their shape invariance properties.

Multistep DBT and regular rational extensions of the isotonic oscillator

In some recent articles we developed a new systematic approach to generate solvable rational extensions of primary translationally shape invariant potentials. In this generalized SUSY QM partnership, the DBT are built on the excited states Riccati-Schrödinger (RS) functions regularized via specific discrete symmetries of the considered potential. In the present paper, we prove that this scheme can be extended in a multistep formulation. Applying this scheme to the isotonic oscillator, we obtain new towers of regular rational extensions of this potential which are strictly isospectral to it. We give explicit expressions for their eigenstates which are associated to the recently discovered exceptional Laguerre polynomials and show explicitely that these extensions inherit of the shape invariance properties of the original potential.

Solvable rational extensions of the isotonic oscillator

Combining recent results on rational solutions of the Riccati-Schrödinger equations for shape invariant potentials to the finite difference Bäcklund algorithm and specific symmetries of the isotonic potential, we show that it is possible to generate the three infinite sets (L1, L2 and L3 families) of regular rational solvable extensions of this potential in a very direct and transparent way.

Solvable rational extensions of the Morse and Kepler-Coulomb potentials

We show that it is possible to generate an infinite set of solvable rational extensions from every exceptional first category translationally shape invariant potential. This is made by using Darboux-Bäcklund transformations based on unphysical regular Riccati-Schrödinger functions which are obtained from specific symmetries associated to the considered family of potentials.

Ma-Xu quantization rule and exact WKB condition for translationally shape invariant potentials

For translationally shape invariant potentials, the exact quantization rule proposed by Ma and Xu is a direct consequence of exactness of the modified WKB quantization condition proved by Barclay. We propose here a very direct alternative way to calculate the appropriate correction for the whole class of translationally shape invariant potentials.

Solvable rational extension of translationally shape invariant potentials

Combining recent results on rational solutions of the Riccati-Schrödinger equations for shape invariant potentials to the scheme developed by Fellows and Smith in the case of the one dimensional harmonic oscillator, we show that it is possible to generate an infinite set of solvable rational extensions for every translationally shape invariant potential of the second category.

Rational solutions for the Riccati-Schrödinger equations associated to translationally shape invariant potentials

We develop a new approach to build the eigenfunctions of a translationally shape-invariant potential. For this we show that their logarithmic derivatives can be expressed as terminating continued fractions in an appropriate variable. We give explicit formulas for all the eigenstates, their specific form depending on the Barclay-Maxwell class to which the considered potential belongs.
