Transverse positron polarization in the polarized $μ^+$ decay related with the muonium-to-antimuonium transition

The constructions of the new high-intensity muon beamlines are progressing in facilities around the world, and new physics searches related to the muons are expected. The facilities can observe the transverse positron polarization of the polarized $μ^+$ decay to test the standard model. The transition of muonium into antimuonium (Mu-to-$\bar{\text{Mu}}$ transition), which is one of the interesting possibilities in the models beyond the standard model, can be also tested. The near-future observation of the transition gives us a great impact since it indicates that there is an approximate discrete symmetry in the lepton sector. If the Mu-to-$\bar{\text{Mu}}$ transition operator is generated, a new muon decay operator can exist and it may interfere with the standard model muon decay operator to induce the corrections to the transverse positron polarization in the $μ^+$ decay. In this paper, we examine the possibility that the Mu-to-$\bar{\text{Mu}}$ transition and the correction to the transverse positron polarization are related, and we show that those two are related in the model of a neutral flavor gauge boson. We also investigate the models to generate the Mu-to-$\bar{\text{Mu}}$ transition, such as an inert $SU(2)_L$ doublet, a $SU(2)_L$ triplet for the type-II seesaw model, a dilepton gauge boson, and a left-right model. The non-zero value of the transverse polarization for one of the two directions, $P_{\rm T_2}$, violates the time-reversal invariance, and the experimental constraint of the electron electric dipole moment can provide a severe constraint on $P_{\rm T_2}$ depending on the model.

Models of the Muonium to Antimuonium Transition

Muonium is a bound state composed of an antimuon and an electron, and it constitutes a hydrogen-like atom. Because of the absence of the hadronic matter in the bound state, the muonium is a useful probe to explore new physics being free from the hadronic uncertainties. The process of the muonium-to-antimuonium transition is considered to be effective to identify fundamental interactions which relate to the lepton flavor and lepton number violation. New experiments are being planned at J-PARC in Japan and CSNS in China, and it is expected to attract more attention in the near future. In this paper, we will study what kind of model can be verified in the next generation of the muonium-to-antimuonium transition search experiments while escaping the limitations from other experiments. Though the transition probability is strongly suppressed by the lepton flavor conservation in the standard model, it can be much larger by the exchanges of neutral and doubly charged bosons, and by box loop diagrams in new physics beyond the standard model. We study the neutrino models with heavy Majorana neutrinos at TeV scale, a type-II seesaw model, left--right models, and models for radiative neutrino masses such as the Zee-Babu model in particular, in addition to other possible models to induce the sizable transition probability, which can be tested in the forthcoming experiments.

$μ$-$τ$ symmetry breaking and CP violation in the neutrino mass matrix

The $μ$-$τ$ exchange symmetry in the neutrino mass matrix and its breaking as a perturbation are discussed. The exact $μ$-$τ$ symmetry restricts the 2-3 and 1-3 neutrino mixing angles as $θ_{23} = π/4$ and $θ_{13} = 0$ at a zeroth order level. We claim that the $μ$-$τ$ symmetry breaking prefers a large CP violation to realize the observed value of $θ_{13}$ and to keep $θ_{23}$ nearly maximal, though an artificial choice of the $μ$-$τ$ breaking can tune $θ_{23}$, irrespective of the CP phase. We exhibit several relations among the deviation of $θ_{23}$ from $π/4$, $θ_{13}$ and Dirac CP phase $δ$, which are useful to test the $μ$-$τ$ breaking models in the near future experiments. We also propose a concrete model to break the $μ$-$τ$ exchange symmetry spontaneously and its breaking is mediated by the gauge interactions radiatively in the framework of the extended gauge model with $B-L$ and $L_μ- L_τ$ symmetries. As a result of the gauge mediated $μ$-$τ$ breaking in the neutrino mass matrix, the artificial choice is unlikely, and a large Dirac CP phase is preferable.

Enhanced $Γ(p\to K^0μ^+)/Γ(p\to K^+\barν_μ)$ as a Signature of Minimal Renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT

The ratio of the partial widths of some dimension-5 proton decay modes can be predicted without detailed knowledge of SUSY particle masses, and thus allows us to experimentally test various SUSY GUT models without discovering SUSY particles. In this paper, we study the ratio of the partial widths of the $p\to K^0μ^+$ and $p\to K^+\barν_μ$ decays in the minimal renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT, under only a plausible assumption that the 1st and 2nd generation left-handed squarks are mass-degenerate. In the model, we expect that the Wilson coefficients of dimension-5 operators responsible for these modes are on the same order and that the ratio of $p\to K^0μ^+$ and $p\to K^+\barν_μ$ partial widths is $O(0.1)$. Hence, we may be able to detect both $p\to K^0μ^+$ and $p\to K^+\barν_μ$ decays at Hyper-Kamiokande, thereby gaining a hint for the minimal renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT. Moreover, since this partial width ratio is quite suppressed in the minimal $SU(5)$ GUT, it allows us to distinguish the minimal renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT from the minimal $SU(5)$ GUT. In the main body of the paper, we perform a fitting of the quark and lepton masses and flavor mixings with the Yukawa couplings of the minimal renormalizable $SO(10)$ GUT, and derive a concrete prediction for the partial width ratio based on the fitting results. We find that the partial width ratio generally varies in the range 0.05-0.6, confirming the above expectation.

On $θ_{23}$ Octant Measurement in $3+1$ Neutrino Oscillations in T2HKK

It has been pointed out that the mixing of an eV-scale sterile neutrino with active flavors can lead to loss of sensitivity to the $θ_{23}$ octant (sign of $\sin^2θ_{23}-1/2$) in long baseline experiments, because the main oscillation probability $P_0=4\sin^2θ_{23}\sin^2θ_{13}\sin^2Δ_{31}$ can be degenerate with the sum of the interferences with the solar oscillation amplitude and an active-sterile oscillation amplitude in both neutrino and antineutrino oscillations, depending on CP phases. In this paper, we show that the above degeneracy is resolved by measuring the same beam at different baseline lengths. We demonstrate that Tokai-to-Hyper-Kamiokande-to-Korea (T2HKK) experiment (one 187~kton fiducial volume water Cerenkov detector is placed at Kamioka, $L=295$~km, and another detector is put in Korea, $L\sim1000$~km) exhibits a better sensitivity to the $θ_{23}$ octant in those parameter regions where the experiment with two detectors at Kamioka is insensitive to it. Therefore, if a hint of sterile-active mixings is discovered in short baseline experiments, T2HKK is a better option than the plan of placing two detectors at Kamioka. We also consider an alternative case where one detector is placed at Kamioka and a different detector is at Oki Islands, $L=653$~km, and show that this configuration also leads to a better sensitivity to the $θ_{23}$ octant.

Renormalizable $SO(10)$ GUT with Suppressed Dimension-5 Proton Decays

We study a renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT model where the Yukawa couplings of single ${\bf 10}$, single ${\bf \overline{126}}$ and single ${\bf 120}$ fields, $Y_{10},Y_{126},Y_{120}$, account for the quark and lepton Yukawa couplings and the neutrino mass. We pursue the possibility that $Y_{10},Y_{126},Y_{120}$ reproduce the correct quark and lepton masses, CKM and PMNS matrices and neutrino mass differences, and at the same time suppress dimension-5 proton decays (proton decays via colored Higgsino exchange) through their texture, so that the soft SUSY breaking scale can be reduced as much as possible without conflicting the current experimental bound on proton decays. We perform a numerical search for such a texture, and investigate implications of that texture on unknown neutrino parameters, the Dirac CP phase of PMNS matrix, the lightest neutrino mass and the $(1,1)$-component of the neutrino mass matrix in the charged lepton basis. Here we concentrate on the case when the active neutrino mass is generated mostly by the Type-2 seesaw mechanism, in which case the correlation between the suppression of dimension-5 proton decays and the neutrino parameters is expected to be most direct.

Is Electroweak Symmetry Breaking Still Natural in the MSSM?

The absence of any signal of supersymmetry (SUSY) at the LHC has raised the SUSY particle mass scale compared to $Z$ boson mass $M_Z$. We investigate the naturalness of the electroweak symmetry breaking after considering radiative symmetry breaking along with 125 GeV Higgs mass. We find that the important quantity to measure the naturalness of the hierarchy between the SUSY scale and $M_Z$ is the separation between the radiative symmetry breaking scale, i.e., where $m_{H_u}^2+μ^2$ turns negative for large $\tanβ$ case ($μ$ is the Higgsino mass and $m_{H_u}$ is the SUSY breaking up-type Higgs boson mass) and the average stop mass. Using this measure, one can show that the electroweak symmetry breaking can be natural even if $μ$ is large contrary to the prevailing claim that $μ$ is needed to be small to maintain the naturalness.

Relation between proton decay and PMNS phase in the minimal SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT

Proton decay is one of the most important predictions of the grand unified theory (GUT). In the supersymmetric (SUSY) GUT, proton decays via the dimension-five operators need to be suppressed. In the $SO(10)$ model where ${\bf 10}+\overline{\bf 126}$ Higgs fields couple to fermions, neutrino oscillation parameters including the CP-violating Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) phase can be related to the Yukawa couplings to generate the dimension-five operators in the unified framework. We show how the suppressed proton decay depends on the PMNS phase, and stress the importance of the precise measurements of the PMNS phase as well as the neutrino 23-mixing angle. These become especially important if the SUSY particles are found around less than a few TeV at LHC and proton decays are observed at Hyper-Kamiokande and DUNE experiments in the near future.

Revisiting fermion mass and mixing fits in the minimal SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT

Supersymmetric $SO(10)$ grand unified models with renormalizable Yukawa couplings involving only ${\bf 10}$ and $\overline{\bf 126}$ Higgs fields have been shown to realize the fermion masses and mixings economically. In previous works, the sum rule of the fermion mass matrices are given by inputting the quark matrices, and the neutrino mixings are predicted in this framework. Now the three neutrino mixings have been measured, and in this paper, we give the sum rule by inputting the lepton mass matrices, which makes clear certain features of the solution, especially if the vacuum expectation values of ${\bf 126}+ \overline{\bf126}$ ($v_R$) are large and the right-handed neutrinos are heavy. We perform the $χ^2$ analyses to fit the fermion masses and mixings using the sum rule. In previous works, the best fit appears at $v_R \sim 10^{13}$ GeV, and the fit at the large $v_R$ scale ($\sim 10^{16}$ GeV) has been less investigated. Our expression of the sum rule has a benefit to understand the flavor structure in the large $v_R$ solution. Using the fit results, we perform the calculation of the $μ\to eγ$ process and the electric dipole moment of electron, and the importance of $v_R$ dependence emerges in low energy phenomena. We also show the prediction of the CP phase in the neutrino oscillations, which can be tested in the near future.

Enhancement of Br(B_d -> mu^+mu^-)/Br(B_s -> mu^+mu^-) in Supersymmetric Unified Models

We explain the 2.3 sigma deviation in the recent measurements of the neutral B mesons decay into muon pairs from the standard model prediction in the framework of supersymmetric grand unified models using anti-symmetric coupling as a new source of flavor violation. We show a correlation between the B_d -> mu^+mu^- decay and the CP phase in the B_d -> J/psi K decay and that their deviations from the standard model predictions can be explained after satisfying constraints arising from various hadronic and leptonic rare decay processes, B-bar{B}, K-bar{K} oscillations data and electric dipole moments of electron and neutron. The allowed parameter space is typically represented by pseudoscalar Higgs mass m_A < 1 TeV and tan beta_H (= {v_u}/{v_d}) < 20 for squark and gluino masses around 2 TeV.

Hilltop Supernatural Inflation and SUSY Unified Models

In this paper, we consider high scale (100 TeV) supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking and realize the idea of hilltop supernatural inflation in concrete particle physics models based on flipped-SU(5) and Pati-Salam models in the framework of supersymmetric grand unified theories (SUSY GUTs). The inflaton can be a flat direction including right-handed sneutrino and the waterfall field is a GUT Higgs. The spectral index is $n_s=0.96$ which fits very well with recent data by PLANCK satellite. There is no both thermal and non-thermal gravitino problems. Non-thermal leptogenesis can be resulted from the decay of right-handed sneutrino which plays (part of) the role of inflaton.

Bootstrap Dynamical Symmetry Breaking with New Heavy Chiral Quarks

A Higgs-like new boson with mass around 126 GeV is now established, but its true nature probably cannot be settled with 2011--2012 LHC data. We assume it is a dilaton with couplings weaker than the Higgs boson (except to $γγ$ and $gg$), and explore dynamical symmetry breaking (DSB) by strong Yukawa coupling of a yet unseen heavy chiral quark doublet $Q$. Assuming the actual Higgs boson to be heavy, the Goldstone boson $G$ of electroweak symmetry breaking still couples to $Q$ with Yukawa coupling $λ_Q$. A ``bootstrap" gap equation without a Higgs particle is constructed. Electroweak symmetry breaking via strong $λ_Q$ generates both heavy mass for $Q$, while self-consistently justifying $G$ as a massless Goldstone particle in the loop. The spontaneous breaking of scale invariance in principle \emph{allows} for a dilaton. We numerically solve such a gap equation and find the mass of the heavy quark to be a couple of TeV. We offer a short critique on the results of the scale-invariant model of Hung and Xiong, where a similar gap equation is built with a massless scalar doublet. Through this we show that a light SM Higgs at 126 GeV cannot be viable within our approach to DSB, while a dilaton with weaker couplings is consistent with our main result.

Enhancement of Higgs to diphoton decay width in non-perturbative Higgs model

We investigate a possibility if a loop diagram via Higgsino can enhance the Higgs to diphoton decay width in supersymmetric models with an extension of Higgs sector. A model with an additional non-renormalizable term of Higgs fields is firstly analyzed where the higher order term can introduce the Higgs coupling to Higgsinos as well as charged Higgs bosons. We point out that a choice of the Higgs coupling to obtain a significant size of enhancement of diphoton decay width reduces the Higgs mass and/or a size of non-renormalizable term needs to be large and a cutoff scale is around the weak scale. Another model in which the Higgsino mass term is generated by a non-perturbative instanton effect via a strong dynamics in a context of SUSY QCD is also suggested. It is shown that the sign of the Higgs coupling to fermions is opposite from perturbative models due to an operator including bosonic fields in the denominator and a constructive contribution to the diphoton decay amplitude can be easily obtained in this kind of model.

Higgs Pair Production at the LHC and ILC from general potential

Higgs cubic coupling plays a crucial role to probe an origin of electroweak symmetry breaking. It is expected that the cubic coupling is measured by Higgs pair production at the LHC and ILC, and the deviations from the standard model can be extracted from the Higgs pair production process, and those can give us a hint of new physics beyond the standard model. We consider a general potential that achieves the suitable electroweak symmetry breaking. As one of the interesting models, we suggest a non-perturbative Higgs model in which a run-away type of potential is used. In the model, the cross sections of pair production at the LHC is enlarged compared to the standard model. We also study the Higgs pair production induced by a non-canonical kinetic term of Higgs fields which will be important to search the pair-production at the ILC.

Proton decay and $μ\to e+γ$ Connection in a Renormalizable SO(10) GUT for Neutrinos

Supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified models with renormalizable Yukawa couplings involving {\bf 10}, {\bf 126} and {\bf 120} Higgs fields have been shown to give a very economical theory for understanding quark-lepton flavor in a unified framework. In previous papers, we showed how nucleon decay can be suppressed in these models without invoking cancellation, by choice of Yukawa flavor texture within a type II seesaw framework for neutrinos that explains all mixings and masses including the recently observed "large" $θ_{13}$. In this follow-up paper, we extend our earlier work to the case of type I seesaw and show that the recently measured "large" $θ_{13}$ can be accommodated in this case while suppressing proton decay. We then point out that the two cases (type I and II) lead to different testable predictions for $B(μ\to e+γ)$ and $B(τ\to μ(e) +γ)$ as well as different flavor final states in nucleon decay. In particular, we find that for the type I seesaw case, $B(τ\to μ+γ)$ can be observable while at the same time suppressing $B(μ\to e+γ)$, whereas in the type II seesaw case, $B(τ\to μ+γ)$ is always suppressed whereas $B(μ\to e+γ)$ is observable.

Colored Scalars And The CDF $W+$dijet Excess

The recent data on $W+$dijet excess reported by CDF may be interpreted as the associated production of a $W$ and a new particle of mass about 150 GeV which subsequently decays into two hadron jets. We study the possibility of explaining the $W+$dijet excess by colored scalar bosons. There are several colored scalars which can have tree level renormalizable Yukawa couplings with two quarks, $({\bf 8}, {\bf 2},1/2)$, $(\bar{\bf 6}({\bf 3}), {\bf 3}({\bf 1}), -1/3)$, $(\bar {\bf 6}({\bf 3}), {\bf 1}, -4/3(2/3))$. If one of these scalars has a mass about 150 GeV, being colored it can naturally explain why the excess only shows up in the form of two hadron jets. Although the required production cross section and mass put constraints on model parameters and rule out some possible scenarios when confronted with other existing data, in particular FCNC data, we find that there are strong constraints on the Yukawa couplings of these scalars. Without forcing the couplings to be some special texture forms most of the scalars, except the $({\bf 3}, {\bf 3}, -1/3)$, are in trouble with FCNC data. We also study some features for search of these new particles at the RHIC and the LHC and find that related information can help further to distinguish different models.

B_s --> mu+mu- in Supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories

We investigate the recent CDF measurement of the Br(B_s --> mu+mu-) which shows excess over the Standard Model. We consider minimal supergravity motivated models (mSUGRA)/CMSSM and grand unified models, SU(5) and SO(10). In the grand unified models, the neutrino mixings provide an additional source of squark flavor violation through the quark-lepton unification. In the context of minimal SU(5) model, we find that the new CDF measurement has imposed a lower bound on the branching ratio of tau --> mu gamma for a large CP phase in the B_s-bar B_s mixing. Recall that there have been indication for a large CP phase in B_s mixing from B_s --> J/psi phi (Tevatron and LHCb) and dimuon asymmetry (D0). We also predict Br(tau --> mu eta) for the possible range of values of Br(tau --> mu gamma).

Dimuon CP Asymmetry in B Decays and Wjj Excess in Two Higgs Doublet Models

We analyze the puzzle of the dimuon CP asymmetry in B_s decays in two Higgs doublet models. We show that the flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) induced by the Higgs coupling in a type III two Higgs doublet model provides a solution to the dimuon charge asymmetry puzzle by enhancing the absorbtive part of the mixing amplitude Γ_{12}^s. We investigate different experimental constraints and show that it is possible to enhance Γ_{12}^s in order to explain the dimuon asymmetry observed by D0. This enhancement requires large Higgs couplings to the first and second generations of quarks which may also explain the recent 3.2 σWjj excess observed by CDF.

TeV-scale seesaw with non-negligible left-right neutrino mixings

We suggest natural TeV-scale seesaw with non-negligible left-right neutrino mixings as preserving tiny neutrino masses. Our analysis is exhibited, without loss of generality, by taking a basis of the neutrino matrices, in which the condition to obtain the left-right mixings is clear. We also suggest a flavor symmetry as an underlying theory, which naturally realizes our setup to preserve tiny neutrino masses. Our setup can predict a magnitude of sin theta_13 in a region of 0.10 to 0.20, depending on the deviation from maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing and CP phase. We also investigate experimental constraints and phenomenology in our setup.

An SO(10) Grand Unified Theory of Flavor

We present a supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified theory (GUT) of flavor based on an $S_4$ family symmetry. It makes use of our recent proposal to use SO(10) with type II seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses combined with a simple ansatz that the dominant Yukawa matrix (the {\bf 10}-Higgs coupling to matter) has rank one. In this paper, we show how the rank one model can arise within some plausible assumptions as an effective field theory from vectorlike {\bf 16} dimensional matter fields with masses above the GUT scale. In order to obtain the desired fermion flavor texture we use $S_4$ flavon multiplets which acquire vevs in the ground state of the theory. By supplementing the $S_4$ theory with an additional discrete symmetry, we find that the flavon vacuum field alignments take a discrete set of values provided some of the higher dimensional couplings are small. Choosing a particular set of these vacuum alignments appears to lead to an unified understanding of observed quark-lepton flavor: (i) the lepton mixing matrix that is dominantly tri-bi-maximal with small corrections related to quark mixings; (ii) quark lepton mass relations at GUT scale: $m_b\simeq m_τ$ and $m_μ\simeq 3 m_s$ and (iii) the solar to atmospheric neutrino mass ratio $m_\odot/m_{\rm atm}\simeq θ_{\rm Cabibbo}$ in agreement with observations. The model predicts the neutrino mixing parameter, $U_{e3} \simeq θ_{\rm Cabibbo}/(3\sqrt2) \sim 0.05$, which should be observable in planned long baseline experiments.

We consider a class of supersymmetric models containing baryon number violating processes such as observable neutron - antineutron oscillations that are mediated by color triplet diquark fields. CP Violating Lepton Asymmetry from B Decays in Supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories

We investigate the effect of the dimuon CP asymmetry from the B decay modes, recently observed at 3.2 sigma deviation from the Standard Model (SM) by the D0 collaboration, in the context of SU(5) and SO(10) GUT models. We exhibit that a large amount of flavor violation between the second and the third generation is generated due to the large neutrino atmospheric mixing angle and this flavor violation can be responsible for the observed large CP asymmetry due to the presence of new phases (not present in the CKM matrix) in the Yukawa couplings. We also study the implication of the parameter space in these GUT models with large CP violating lepton asymmetry for different phenomenologies, e.g., Br(tau -> mu + gamma), Br(B_s -> mu + mu) at the Fermilab, direct detection of dark matter (DM) in the ongoing detectors and measurement of muon flux from solar neutrinos at the IceCube experiment.

Direct and Indirect Detection and LHC Signals of Bino-Higgsino Dark Matter

If the lightest dark matter neutralino has a sufficiently large Higgsino component, its spin-independent and spin-dependent cross sections on nucleons can be sizable enough to be detected soon in direct and indirect surveys. We outline in this paper some characteristic features expected of mixed bino-Higgsino dark matter. If the observed relic density is saturated by the bino-Higgsino dark matter, it fixes the amount of allowable bino-Higgsino mixing and provides predictions for other observables which can be tested at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We study the correlation between the cross sections and the branching ratio of B_s -> mu^+ mu^-. For a mixed bino-Higgsino dark matter, the mass differences of the neutralinos can be less than M_Z. This will cause an excess of lepton pairs, above the Standard Model predictions, from the decays of the two heavier neutralinos. We discuss implications of the dilepton invariant mass distribution, and outline a way to extract the neutralino parameters for testing gaugino mass unification and deducing the relic density from an interplay of astrophysical detection and LHC measurements.

Origin of Quark-Lepton Flavor in SO(10) with Type II Seesaw

Diverse mass and mixing patterns between the quarks and leptons makes it challenging to construct a simple grand unified theory of flavor. We show that SO(10) SUSY GUTs with type II seesaw mechanism giving neutrino masses provide a natural framework for addressing this issue. A simple ansatz that the dominant Yukawa matrix (the 10-Higgs coupling to matter) has rank one, appears to simultaneously explain both the large lepton mixings as well as the observed quark flavor hierarchy in these models. A testable prediction of this ansatz is the neutrino mixing, U_{e3}, which should be observable in planned long baseline experiments.

Lepton Flavor Violation in Intersecting D-brane Models

We investigate lepton flavor violation in the context of intersecting D-brane models. We point out that these models have a source to generate flavor violation in the trilinear scalar couplings while the geometry of the construction leads to degenerate soft scalar masses for different generations (as in the minimal supergravity model) at the string scale. The trilinear scalar couplings are not proportional to the Yukawa couplings when the F-term of the U-moduli contribution is non-zero. Consequently, the lepton flavor violating decay processes are generated. Only other sources of flavor violations in this model are the Dirac neutrino Yukawa coupling and the Majorana couplings. The observed fermion mixings are realized from the ``almost rank 1" Yukawa matrices, which generate a simple texture for the trilinear scalar terms. We calculate the branching ratios of tau -> mu gamma, mu -> e gamma and the electric dipole moment of the electron in this model. We find that the observation of all the lepton flavor violating decay processes and the electric dipole moment will be able to sort out different flavor violating sources.

Orbifold Unification for the Gauge and Higgs Fields and Their Couplings

We present an orbifold GUT model in which the NMSSM Higgs trilinear couplings are unified with the three Standard Model gauge couplings. The model is constructed as an N=2 supersymmetric SU(8) gauge theory in six dimensions, which is reduced to the NMSSM with extra U(1) factors upon compactification. Such an unification is in good agreement with experiments. The predicted upper limit for the lightest CP-even neutral Higgs boson is somewhat larger than in the MSSM, and can be tested in the upcoming Large Hadron Collider.

Properties of Fermion Mixings in Intersecting D-brane Models

We consider the Yukawa couplings for quarks and leptons in the context of Pati-Salam model using intersecting D-brane models where the Yukawa coupling matrices are rank one in a simple choice of family replication. The CKM mixings can be explained by perturbing the rank 1 matrix using higher order terms involving new Higgs fields available in the model. We show that the near bi-large neutrino mixing angles can be naturally explained, choosing the light neutrino mass matrix to be type II seesaw dominant. The predicted value of U_{e3} is in the range \simeq 0.05-0.15. In the quark sector, V_{cb} is naturally close to the strange/bottom quark mass ratio and we obtain an approximate relation V_{ub} V_{cb} \simeq (m_s/m_b)^2 V_{us}. The geometrical interpretations of the neutrino mixings are also discussed.

Split Supersymmetry in Unified Models

In the context of split supersymmetry, the gaugino mass spectrum seems to be very important to satisfy the dark matter content of the universe and the gauge coupling unification. In this paper, we have considered various sources of gaugino masses in the context of unified models. We show that the gaugino mass spectrum varies in different unification pictures. In the context of SU(5), we have found that the Bino/Wino mass ratio can be close to one at the weak scale which is helpful to satisfy the WMAP data. The gluino/Wino mass ratio is also different from the usual scenario of unified gaugino masses. The gaugino masses can be around one TeV and m_SUSY is chosen so that the gluino mass does not create any cosmological problem. In the context of the Pati-Salam model, we show that the gluino mass can be made very heavy even after maintaining the unification of the gauge couplings.

Neutrino Masses and Mixings in a Predictive SO(10) Model with CKM CP Violation

It has recently been shown that a minimal SO(10) model with a single {\bf 10} and single {\bf 126} Higgs field breaking B-L symmetry predicts large solar and atmospheric mixings in agreement with observations if it is assumed that the neutrino mass obeys the type II seesaw formula. No additional symmetries need to be assumed for this purpose. Understanding CP violation in the renormalizable version of the model however requires a significant non-CKM source. In this paper we show that if we extend the model by the inclusion of a heavy {\bf 120} dimensional Higgs field, then it can accomodate CKM CP violation while remaining predictive in the neutrino sector. Among the predictions are:(i) solar mixing angle in the observed range; (ii)θ_{13} in the range of 0.1 to 0.26; (iii) the Dirac phase close to maximal for the central value of the solar mixing angle.

We construct a supersymmetric left-right model in four dimension with gauge-Higgs unification starting from a SU(3)_c x SU(4)_w x U(1)_{B-L} gauge symmetry in five dimension. The model has several interesting features, such as, the CKM mixings in the quark sector are naturally small while for the neutrino sector it is not, light neutrino masses can be generated via the seesaw mechanism in the usual way, and the model has a U(1)_R symmetry which naturally forbid dimension five proton decay operators. We also discuss the grand unification of our model in SO(12) in five dimensions.

Test of Gauge-Yukawa Unification

Recently it has been proposed that, in the framework of quantum field theory, both the Standard Model gauge and Yukawa interactions arise from a single gauge interaction in higher dimensions with supersymmetry. This leads to the unification of the Standard Model gauge couplings and the third family Yukawa couplings at the GUT scale. In this work, we make a detailed study of this unification using the current experimental data, and find a good agreement in a significant region of the parameter space. Similar relations, required in Finite Grand Unification models, are also studied.

The gauge symmetry SU(8) is broken down to SU(4) x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R x U(1)^2 in 4D through T^2/Z_6 orbifold compactification, and the theory is reduced to 4D N=1 supersymmetric Pati-Salam model. The electroweak Higgs fields as well as the third family of fermions are unified in the 6D N=2 gauge multiplet. The 6D bulk gauge interaction provides both gauge and Yukawa interactions for the third family predicting α_1 = α_2 = α_3 = α_t = α_b = α_tau at the unification scale, in good agreement with experiment. Incorporation of the first and second family as well as other orbifolds are also briefly discussed.

Unity of elementary particles and forces in higher dimensions

We present a model in which elementary particles and forces are unified in the framework of quantum field theory in higher dimensions. The particles include gauge bosons, quarks and leptons, as well as the Higgs bosons and the forces include strong, weak, hypercharge as well as Yukawa interactions. The model is based on a simple group SO(16) in six dimensions with N=2 supersymmetry. The gauge symmetry, as well as supersymmetry is broken to SU(4) x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R x U(1)^3 with N=1 supersymmetry upon compactification in four dimension on a T^2/Z_6 orbifold.

Orbifold Breaking of 3-3-1 Model

We study the five dimensional SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times U(1)_X gauge theory (3-3-1 Model) in which the gauge symmetry is broken down through orbifold compactification to four dimensions. The new model has several distinguishing features compared to the usual four dimensional model. We develop the formalism, and give expressions for the gauge boson masses, mixings and their couplings to the fermions. Phenomenology of the model is briefly studied.

Orbifold Breaking of Left-Right Gauge Symmetry

We study the five dimensional left-right symmetric gauge theory in which the gauge symmetry is broken down through orbifold compactification to four dimensions. The right handed charged gauge boson, W_R is a Kaluza-Klein excited state in this model, and unlike the usual left-right symmetric model in four dimension, there is no mixing in the charged sector. We develop the formalism and give expressions for the gauge boson masses and mixings and their couplings to the fermions. Phenomenology of the model is briefly studied to put constraints on the right-handed gauge boson masses and the orbifold compactification scale.

Natural Mass Hierarchy of Z Boson and Scalar Top in No-Scale Supergravity

It is studied that `no-scale' model makes hierarchy between scalar top mass and Z boson mass naturally. The supersymmetry breaking parameters are constrained by flavor changing neutral currents in minimal supersymmetric standard model. One of the solution of the problem is that gaugino mass is the only source of the supersymmetry breaking parameters at Planck scale. However, in such scenario, we need a cancellation between Higgs mass parameters in minimization condition of the Higgs potential. We insist that there is no such cancellation in no-scale model, and that the no-scale model gives us the prediction of scalar top mass and lightest Higgs mass. The lightest Higgs mass is predicted as $m_H = 110 \pm 5 $ GeV.

The Singular Seesaw Mechanism with Hierarchical Dirac Neutrino Mass

The singular seesaw mechanism can naturally explain the atmospheric neutrino deficit by the maximal oscillation between $ν_{μ_L}$ and $ν_{μ_R}$. This mechanism can also induce three different scales of neutrino mass squared differences, which can explain the neutrino deficits of three independent experiments (solar, atmospheric, and LSND) by neutrino oscillations. In this paper we show that the realistic mixing angles among neutrinos can be obtained by introducing the hierarchy in the Dirac neutrino mass. In the case where Majorana neutrino mass matrix has rank 2, the solar neutrino deficit is explained by the vacuum oscillation between $ν_e$ and $ν_τ$. We also consider the case where Majorana neutrino mass matrix has rank 1. In this case, the mater enhanced Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein solar neutrino solution is prefered as the solution of the solar neutrino deficit.

The Sliding Singlet Mechanism with Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking

The sliding singlet mechanism is one of the most interesting solutions of the triplet-doublet splitting problem. We analyze this mechanism in the gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario. We show that the sliding singlet mechanism does not work in the naive gauge mediation scenario because of the singlet linear terms derived from the gravity, although $F$ term is much smaller than the one in the gravity mediation scenario. We also consider the extension in order for the sliding singlet mechanism to work.
