Cybersecurity Entity Alignment via Masked Graph Attention Networks

Cybersecurity vulnerability information is often recorded by multiple channels, including government vulnerability repositories, individual-maintained vulnerability-gathering platforms, or vulnerability-disclosure email lists and forums. Integrating vulnerability information from different channels enables comprehensive threat assessment and quick deployment to various security mechanisms. Efforts to automatically gather such information, however, are impeded by the limitations of today's entity alignment techniques. In our study, we annotate the first cybersecurity-domain entity alignment dataset and reveal the unique characteristics of security entities. Based on these observations, we propose the first cybersecurity entity alignment model, CEAM, which equips GNN-based entity alignment with two mechanisms: asymmetric masked aggregation and partitioned attention. Experimental results on cybersecurity-domain entity alignment datasets demonstrate that CEAM significantly outperforms state-of-the-art entity alignment methods.

Lalaine: Measuring and Characterizing Non-Compliance of Apple Privacy Labels at Scale

As a key supplement to privacy policies that are known to be lengthy and difficult to read, Apple has launched the app privacy labels, which purportedly help users more easily understand an app's privacy practices. However, false and misleading privacy labels can dupe privacy-conscious consumers into downloading data-intensive apps, ultimately eroding the credibility and integrity of the labels. Although Apple releases requirements and guidelines for app developers to create privacy labels, little is known about whether and to what extent the privacy labels in the wild are correct and compliant, reflecting the actual data practices of iOS apps. This paper presents the first systematic study, based on our new methodology named Lalaine, to evaluate data-flow to privacy-label (flow-to-label) consistency. Lalaine analyzed the privacy labels and binaries of 5,102 iOS apps, shedding light on the prevalence and seriousness of privacy-label non-compliance. We provide detailed case studies and analyze root causes for privacy label non-compliance that complements prior understandings. This has led to new insights for improving privacy-label design and compliance requirements, so app developers, platform stakeholders, and policy-makers can better achieve their privacy and accountability goals. Lalaine is thoroughly evaluated for its high effectiveness and efficiency. We are responsibly reporting the results to stakeholders.

Quantum enhanced optical phase estimation with a squeezed thermal state

Quantum phase estimation protocols can provide a measuring method of phase shift with precision superior to standard quantum limit (SQL) due to the application of a nonclassical state of light. A squeezed vacuum state, whose variance in one quadrature is lower than the corresponding SQL, has been pointed out a sensitive resource for quantum phase estimation and the estimation accuracy is directly influenced by the properties of the squeezed state. Here we detailedly analyze the influence of the purity and squeezing level of the squeezed state on the accuracy of quantum phase estimation. The maximum precision that can be achieved for a squeezed thermal state is evaluated, and the experimental results are in agreement with the theoretical analyses. It is also found that the width of the phase estimation interval $Δθ$ beyond SQL is correlated with the purity of the squeezed state.
