Revisiting p-$^{11}$B Fusion: Updated Cross-sections, Reactivity, and Energy Balance

Recent experimental progress has substantially improved the available cross-section data for the p-$^{11}$B fusion reaction, particularly in energy regions that previously lacked direct measurements. In this study, we develop a high-precision analytical parameterization of the p-$^{11}$B reaction cross-section over the 0--10 MeV energy range, incorporating the new experimental data into a continuous and numerically efficient representation. Using this parameterization, we evaluate the thermonuclear reactivity of the p-$^{11}$B reaction and examine the effects of the dominant resonance at 0.6 MeV and a newly observed resonance around 4.7 MeV. Furthermore, we assess the energy balance by analyzing the fusion power density and the electron bremsstrahlung power density. Our results indicate that p-$^{11}$B fusion is not precluded by bremsstrahlung constraints when contemporary cross-section data and self-consistent thermal modeling are employed.

On the gauge transformation for the rotation of the singular string in the Dirac monopole theory

In the Dirac theory of the quantum-mechanical interaction of a magnetic monopole and an electric charge, the vector potential is singular from the origin to infinity along certain direction - the so called Dirac string. Imposing the famous quantization condition, the singular string attached to the monopole can be rotated arbitrarily by a gauge transformation, and hence is not physically observable. By deriving its analytical expression and analyzing its properties, we show that the gauge function $χ({\bf r})$ which rotates the string to another one has quite complicated behaviors depending on which side from which the position variable ${\bf r}$ gets across the plane expanded by the two strings. Consequently, some misunderstandings in the literature are clarified.

From nothing to something: discrete integrable systems

Chinese ancient sage Laozi said that everything comes from `nothing'. Einstein believes the principle of nature is simple. Quantum physics proves that the world is discrete. And computer science takes continuous systems as discrete ones. This report is devoted to deriving a number of discrete models, including well-known integrable systems such as the KdV, KP, Toda, BKP, CKP, and special Viallet equations, from `nothing' via simple principles. It is conjectured that the discrete models generated from nothing may be integrable because they are identities of simple algebra, model-independent nonlinear superpositions of a trivial integrable system (Riccati equation), index homogeneous decompositions of the simplest geometric theorem (the angle bisector theorem), as well as the Möbious transformation invariants.

Role of quark-interchange processes in evolution of mesonic matter

We divide the cross section for a meson-meson reaction into three parts. The first part is for the quark-interchange process, the second for quark-antiquark annihilation processes and the third for resonant processes. Master rate equations are established to yield time dependence of fugacities of pions, rhos, kaons and vetor kaons. The equations include cross sections for inelastic scattering of pions, rhos, kaons and vector kaons. Cross sections for quark-interchange-induced reactions, that were obtained in a potential model, are parametrized for convenient use. The number densities of pion and rho (kaon and vector kaon) are altered by quark-interchange processes in equal magnitudes but opposite signs. The master rate equations combined with the hydrodynamic equations for longitudinal and transverse expansion are solved with many sets of initial meson fugacities. Quark-interchange processes are shown to be important in the contribution of the inelastic meson-meson scattering to evolution of mesonic matter.
