Qubit State Discrimination using Post-measurement Information

We consider the optimal discrimination of nonorthogonal qubit states with post-measurement information and provide an analytic structure of the optimal measurements. We also show that there is always a null optimal measurement when post-measurement information is given. Further, in discriminating four states using post-measurement information, we analytically provide the optimal probability of correct guessing and show that the uniqueness of optimal measurement is equivalent to the non-existence of non-null optimal measurement with post-measurement information.

Quantum Fisher information of fermionic cavity modes in an accelerated motion

We investigate the effect of the inertial and non-inertial segments of relativistic motion on the quantum Fisher information of (1+1) Dirac field modes confined to cavities. %For this purpose, a bipartite system comprising of Alice's and Rob's cavities with appropriate boundary conditions is prepared. For the purpose, we consider the situation that Rob's cavity, initially inertial, accelerates uniformly with respect to its proper time and then again becomes inertial while Alice's cavity remains inertial. The acceleration is assumed to be very small and its effects were analyzed in a perturbative regime. For analysis, we consider $θ$ parameterized two-qubit pure entangled state and a Werner state. In contrast to the degradation of entanglement due to the relativistic motion between the cavities, the quantum Fisher information of the pure composite system $\mathcal{F}_θ$ with respect to parameter $θ$ is found to be invariant under the same conditions. However, in the case of the Werner state, the quantum Fisher information displays periodic degradation, due to the inertial and non-inertial segments of motion. Further, we investigate how this evolution process affects the quantum Fisher information distribution over the subsystems of Alice's and Rob's cavities. We find that the quantum Fisher information over the Rob's cavity shows the periodic degradation behavior depending upon the parameter $θ$ as well as the uniform acceleration for both the two qubit pure state and Werner state. The quantum Fisher information over Alice's cavity remains invariant throughout the motion of Rob's cavity for the two qubit pure state whereas for Werner state it is affected by the mixing parameter of the Werner state.

Analytic Model of Variable Characteristic of Coefficient of Restitution and Its Application to Soccer Ball Trajectory Planning

In this article, we investigate the behavior of the coefficient of restitution (COR) which is an important parameter in many impact-related fields. In many cases, the COR is considered as a constant value, but it varies according to many variables. In this paper, we introduce an analytical variable COR model considering aero dynamics along with its verification through experiment. To introduce and analyze the variable characteristic of the COR model, the collision phenomenon between a pendulum and two kinds of ball is employed as an example and aerodynamics such as drag force is considered for analyzing the after-effect of the collision. Collision velocity of the pendulum, dynamic parameters of colliding bodies, contact time, drag coefficient, the air density, and the cross-sectional area of the ball are found as the typical variables of analytical COR model. This observation generalizes the result in previous researches. To verify new COR model, the travel distances for the curve-fitted constant COR model and the curve-fitted variable COR model are compared through simulation and experiment. Moreover, comparison between constant COR and variable COR is presented in several point of views. Finally, using the variable COR model, the travel distance of the ball for collision velocity, which is beyond the curve-fitted range, is estimated.

Revisiting Quantum discord for two-qubit X states: Error bound to Analytical formula

In this article, we investigate the error bound of quantum discord, obtained by the analytic formula of Ali et al.[Phys. Rev. A 81(2010), 042105] in case of general X states and by the analytic formula of Fanchini et al.[Phys. Rev. A 81(2010), 052107] in case of symmetric X states. We show that results of Ali et. al. to general X states and Fanchini et al. to symmetric X states may have worst-case error of 0.004565 and 0.0009 respectively.

Complete analysis for three-qubit mixed-state discrimination

In this article, by treating minimum error state discrimination as a complementarity problem, we obtain the geometric optimality conditions. These can be used as the necessary and sufficient conditions to determine whether every optimal measurement operator can be nonzero. Using these conditions and an inductive approach, we demonstrate a geometric method and the intrinsic polytope for N-qubit mixed-state discrimination. When the intrinsic polytope becomes a point, a line segment, or a triangle, the guessing probability, the necessary and sufficient condition for the exact solution, and the optimal measurement are analytically obtained. We apply this result to the problem of discrimination to arbitrary three-qubit mixed states with given a priori probabilities and obtain the complete analytic solution to the guessing probability and optimal measurement.

Communication channel of fermionic system in accelerated frame

In this article, we investigate the communication channel of fermionic system in an accelerated frame. We observe that at the infinite acceleration, the mutual information of single rail quantum channel coincides with that of double rail quantum channel, but those of classical ones reach different values. Furthermore, we find that at the infinite acceleration, the conditional entropy of single(or double) rail quantum channel vanishes, but those of classical ones may have finite values. In addition, we see that even when considering a method beyond the single mode approximation, the dual rail entangled state seems to provide better channel capacity than the single rail entangled state, unlike the bosonic case. Moreover, we find that the single-mode approximation is not sufficient to analyze the communication channel of fermionic system in an accelerated frame.

Entanglement amplification of fermionic systems in an accelerated frame

In this article we present an analysis to derive physical results in the entanglement amplification of fermonic systems in the relativistic regime, that is, beyond the single-mode approximation. This leads a recent work in [M. Montero and E. Martín-Martínez, JEHP 07 (2011) 006] to a physical result, and solidifies that phenomenon of entanglement amplification can actually happen in the relativistic regime.

Entanglement behavior of quantum states of fermionic system in accelerated frame

In this article we investigate the entanglement behavior of quantum states of fermionic system in accelerated frame. It was known that unlike scalar case the entanglement of fermionic maximally entangled states survives even in the infinite acceleration limit. Also for the fermionic system it was discussed that one may consider the approach beyond single mode approximation. However due to the peculiar property of fermionic system there has been different opinions about correct physical structure of fermionic system. Recently Montero and Martín-Martínez suggested an approach beyond single mode approximation. Using the structure proposed by Montero and Martín-Martínez we investigate the entanglement behavior of quantum states of fermionic system in accelerated frame. We find that the approach by Montero and Martín-Martínez seems to work appropriately. Also we may obtain the proper entanglement behavior of quantum states in fermionic system in accelerated frame(our result may correct the previous results published in Phys.Rev.A 83 052306).

Geometric discord of quantum states of fermionic system in accelerated frame

In this article, we investigate the geometric discord of quantum states of fermionic system in accelerated frame. It is shown by the method beyond the single-mode approximation, depending on the region considered, that the geometric discord for the entangled quantum states of fermionic system in accelerated frame can vanish or be retained at the infinite acceleration limit: it does not disappear when the quantum state of the particle(Alice)-particle(Bob in region I) case or the particle(Alice)-antiparticle(Bob in region II) is considered and it disappears when the particle(Alice)-antiparticle(Bob in region I) case or the particle(Alice)-particle(Bob in region II) one is considered.

Speedup in Quantum Adiabatic Evolution Algorithm

Quantum adiabatic evolution algorithm suggested by Farhi et al. was effective in solving instances of NP-complete problems. The algorithm is governed by the adiabatic theorem. Therefore, in order to reduce the running time, it is essential to examine the minimum energy gap between the ground level and the next one through the evolution. In this letter, we show a way of speedup in quantum adiabatic evolution algorithm, using the extended Hamiltonian. We present the exact relation between the energy gap and the elements of the extended Hamiltonian, which provides the new point of view to reduce the running time.
