More Constructions of Differentially 4-uniform Permutations on $\gf_{2^{2k}}$

Differentially 4-uniform permutations on $\gf_{2^{2k}}$ with high nonlinearity are often chosen as Substitution boxes in both block and stream ciphers. Recently, Qu et al. introduced a class of functions, which are called preferred functions, to construct a lot of infinite families of such permutations \cite{QTTL}. In this paper, we propose a particular type of Boolean functions to characterize the preferred functions. On the one hand, such Boolean functions can be determined by solving linear equations, and they give rise to a huge number of differentially 4-uniform permutations over $\gf_{2^{2k}}$. Hence they may provide more choices for the design of Substitution boxes. On the other hand, by investigating the number of these Boolean functions, we show that the number of CCZ-inequivalent differentially 4-uniform permutations over $\gf_{2^{2k}}$ grows exponentially when kk increases, which gives a positive answer to an open problem proposed in \cite{QTTL}.

Quadratic Zero-Difference Balanced Functions, APN Functions and Strongly Regular Graphs

Let FF be a function from Fpn\mathbb{F}_{p^n} to itself and δδ a positive integer. FF is called zero-difference δδ-balanced if the equation F(x+a)−F(x)=0F(x+a)-F(x)=0 has exactly δδ solutions for all non-zero a∈Fpna\in\mathbb{F}_{p^n}. As a particular case, all known quadratic planar functions are zero-difference 1-balanced; and some quadratic APN functions over F2n\mathbb{F}_{2^n} are zero-difference 2-balanced. In this paper, we study the relationship between this notion and differential uniformity; we show that all quadratic zero-difference δδ-balanced functions are differentially δδ-uniform and we investigate in particular such functions with the form F=G(xd)F=G(x^d), where gcd⁡(d,pn−1)=δ+1\gcd(d,p^n-1)=δ+1 and where the restriction of GG to the set of all non-zero (δ+1)(δ+1)-th powers in Fpn\mathbb{F}_{p^n} is an injection. We introduce new families of zero-difference ptp^t-balanced functions. More interestingly, we show that the image set of such functions is a regular partial difference set, and hence yields strongly regular graphs; this generalizes the constructions of strongly regular graphs using planar functions by Weng et al. Using recently discovered quadratic APN functions on F28\mathbb{F}_{2^8}, we obtain 1515 new (256,85,24,30)(256, 85, 24, 30) negative Latin square type strongly regular graphs.

Six Constructions of Difference Families

In this paper, six constructions of difference families are presented. These constructions make use of difference sets, almost difference sets and disjoint difference families, and give new point of views of relationships among these combinatorial objects. Most of the constructions work for all finite groups. Though these constructions look simple, they produce many difference families with new parameters. In addition to the six new constructions, new results about intersection numbers are also derived.

Strongly Regular Graphs Constructed from pp-ary Bent Functions

In this paper, we generalize the construction of strongly regular graphs in [Y. Tan et al., Strongly regular graphs associated with ternary bent functions, J. Combin.Theory Ser. A (2010), 117, 668-682] from ternary bent functions to pp-ary bent functions, where pp is an odd prime. We obtain strongly regular graphs with three types of parameters. Using certain non-quadratic pp-ary bent functions, our constructions can give rise to new strongly regular graphs for small parameters.

Universal Cycles for Minimum Coverings of Pairs by Triples, with Application to 2-Radius Sequences

A new ordering, extending the notion of universal cycles of Chung {\em et al.} (1992), is proposed for the blocks of kk-uniform set systems. Existence of minimum coverings of pairs by triples that possess such an ordering is established for all orders. Application to the construction of short 2-radius sequences is given, with some new 2-radius sequences found through computer search.
