BOSS Correlation Function Analysis from the Effective Field Theory of Large-Scale Structure

After calibrating the predictions of the Effective Field Theory of Large-Scale Structure against several sets of simulations, as well as implementing a new method to assert the scale cut of the theory without the use of any simulation, we analyze the Full Shape of the BOSS Correlation Function. Imposing a prior from Big Bang Nucleosynthesis on the baryon density, we are able to measure all the parameters in $Λ$CDM + massive neutrinos in normal hierarchy, except for the total neutrino mass, which is just bounded. When combining the BOSS Full Shape with the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation measurements from BOSS, 6DF/MGS and eBOSS, we determine the present day Hubble constant, $H_0$, the present matter fraction, $Ω_m$, the amplitude of the primordial power spectrum, $A_s$, and the tilt of the primordial power spectrum, $n_s$, to $1.4 \%, 4.5 \%, 23.5\%$ and $7.6\%$ precision, respectively, at $68 \%$-confidence level, finding $H_0=68.19 \pm 0.99$ (km/s)/Mpc, $Ω_m=0.309\pm 0.014$, $\ln (10^{10}A_{s })=3.12^{+0.21}_{-0.26}$ and $n_s=0.963^{+0.062}_{-0.085}$, and we bound the total neutrino mass to $0.87 \, \textrm{eV}$ at $95 \%$-confidence level. These constraints are fully consistent with Planck results and the ones obtained from BOSS power spectrum analysis. In particular, we find no tension in $H_0$ or $σ_8$ with Planck measurements, finding consistency at $1.2σ$ and $0.6σ$, respectively.

BOSS full-shape analysis from the EFTofLSS with exact time dependence

We re-analyze the full shape of BOSS galaxy two-point function from the Effective-Field Theory of Large-Scale Structure at the one loop within $Λ$CDM with massive neutrinos using a big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) prior, removing the Einstein-de Sitter (EdS) approximation in the time dependence of the loop, and, properly accounting for the redshift selection over the BOSS samples instead of assuming an effective redshift. We constrain, at $68\%$-confidence level (CL), the present-day matter fraction to $Ω_m=0.322 \pm 0.018$, the Hubble constant to $H_0=69.1\pm 0.14$ (km/s)/Mpc, the $\log$-amplitude of the primordial spectrum to $\ln (10^{10} A_s) = 2.97 \pm 0.25$, the spectral tilt to $n_s = 0.938 \pm 0.082$, and bound the total neutrino mass to $<1.1$ at $95\%$-CL. We find no significant shift in the posteriors of the cosmological parameters due to the EdS approximation, but a marginal difference in $\ln (10^{10} A_s)$ due to the effective redshift approximation of about $0.4σ$, where $σ$ is the $68\%$-confidence interval. Regarding the EdS approximation, we check that the same conclusion holds on simulations of volume like DESI in $Λ$CDM and $w$CDM, with a BBN prior. In contrast, for an approximate, effective redshift, to be assumed, we advocate systematic assessments on redshift selection for ongoing and future large-volume surveys.

The design of the Ali CMB Polarization Telescope receiver

Ali CMB Polarization Telescope (AliCPT-1) is the first CMB degree-scale polarimeter to be deployed on the Tibetan plateau at 5,250m above sea level. AliCPT-1 is a 90/150 GHz 72 cm aperture, two-lens refracting telescope cooled down to 4 K. Alumina lenses, 800mm in diameter, image the CMB in a 33.4° field of view on a 636mm wide focal plane. The modularized focal plane consists of dichroic polarization-sensitive Transition-Edge Sensors (TESes). Each module includes 1,704 optically active TESes fabricated on a 150mm diameter silicon wafer. Each TES array is read out with a microwave multiplexing readout system capable of a multiplexing factor up to 2,048. Such a large multiplexing factor has allowed the practical deployment of tens of thousands of detectors, enabling the design of a receiver that can operate up to 19 TES arrays for a total of 32,376 TESes. AliCPT-1 leverages the technological advancements in the detector design from multiple generations of previously successful feedhorn-coupled polarimeters, and in the instrument design from BICEP-3, but applied on a larger scale. The cryostat receiver is currently under integration and testing. During the first deployment year, the focal plane will be populated with up to 4 TES arrays. Further TES arrays will be deployed in the following years, fully populating the focal plane with 19 arrays on the fourth deployment year. Here we present the AliCPT-1 receiver design, and how the design has been optimized to meet the experimental requirements.

A possible interpretation of the Higgs mass by the cosmological attractive relaxion

Recently, a novel idea has been proposed to relax the electroweak hierarchy problem through the cosmological inflation and the axion periodic potential. Here, we further assume that only the attractive inflation is needed to explain the light mass of the Higgs boson, where we do not need a specified periodic potential of the axion field. Attractive inflation during the early universe drives the Higgs boson mass from the large value in the early universe to the small value at present, where the Higgs mass is an evolving parameter of the Universe. Thus, the small Higgs mass can technically originate from the cosmological evolution rather than dynamical symmetry or anthropics. Further, we study the possible collider signals or constraints at future lepton collier and the possible constraints from the muon anomalous magnetic moment. A concrete attractive relaxion model is also discussed, which is consistent with the data of Planck 2015.

Cosmological Perturbations in Unimodular Gravity

We study cosmological perturbation theory within the framework of unimodular gravity. We show that the Lagrangian constraint on the determinant of the metric required by unimodular gravity leads to an extra constraint on the gauge freedom of the metric perturbations. Although the main equation of motion for the gravitational potential remains the same, the shift variable, which is gauge artifact in General Relativity, cannot be set to zero in unimodular gravity. This non-vanishing shift variable affects the propagation of photons throughout the cosmological evolution and therefore modifies the Sachs-Wolfe relation between the relativistic gravitational potential and the microwave temperature anisotropies. However, for adiabatic fluctuations the difference between the result in General Relativity and unimodular gravity is suppressed on large angular scales. Thus, no strong constraints on the theory can be derived.

Single field inflation with modulated potential in light of the Planck and BICEP2

The recently released BICEP2 data detected the primordial B-mode polarization in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) map which strongly supports for a large tensor-to-scalar ratio, and thus, is found to be in tension with the Planck experiment with no evidence of primordial gravitational waves. Such an observational tension, if confirmed by forthcoming measurements, would bring a theoretical challenge for the very early universe models. To address this issue, we in the present paper revisit a single field inflation model, which includes a modulated potential. We show that this inflation model can give rise to a sizable negative running behavior for the spectral index of primordial curvature perturbation and a large tensor-to-scalar ratio. Applying these properties, our model can nicely explain the combined Planck and BICEP2 observations. To examine the validity of analytic calculations, we numerically confront the predicted temperature and B-mode power spectra with the latest CMB observations and explicitly show that our model is consistent with the current data.

Dynamical analysis of the cosmology of mass-varying massive gravity

We study cosmological evolutions of the generalized model of nonlinear massive gravity in which the graviton mass is given by a rolling scalar field and is varying along time. By performing dynamical analysis, we derive the critical points of this system and study their stabilities. These critical points can be classified into two categories depending on whether they are identical with the traditional ones obtained in General Relativity. We discuss the cosmological implication of relevant critical points.

Preheating in a DBI Inflation Model

We study the preheating process in a model of DBI inflation with a DBI-type inflaton coupling to a canonical entropy field. At the end of inflation, the inflaton field oscillates around its vacuum which can arise from an infrared cutoff parameter on the warp factor and correspondingly the evolution of its fluctuations can be approximately described by a generalized Hill's equation in third order. We study the field fluctuations numerically and show that they could grow exponentially since the instability bands commonly exist in the DBI models if the amplitudes of background oscillations are of order or larger than the cutoff parameter. Our numerical result also reveals that the particle excitation of the matter field is more dramatic than that in usual case since the parametric resonance lasts longer when the effect of a warp factor is taken into account. Therefore, we conclude that the preheating process in the model of DBI inflation could be more efficient than that in standard inflation models.

On dark energy models of single scalar field

In this paper we revisit the dynamical dark energy model building based on single scalar field involving higher derivative terms. By imposing a degenerate condition on the higher derivatives in curved spacetime, one can select the models which are free from the ghost mode and the equation of state is able to cross the cosmological constant boundary smoothly, dynamically violate the null energy condition. Generally the Lagrangian of this type of dark energy models depends on the second derivatives linearly. It behaves like an imperfect fluid, thus its cosmological perturbation theory needs to be generalized. We also study such a model with explicit form of degenerate Lagrangian and show that its equation of state may cross -1 without any instability.

Dark Energy Perturbations Revisited

In this paper we study the evolution of cosmological perturbations in the presence of dynamical dark energy, and revisit the issue of dark energy perturbations. For a generally parameterized equation of state (EoS) such as w_D(z) = w_0+w_1\frac{z}{1+z}, (for a single fluid or a single scalar field ) the dark energy perturbation diverges when its EoS crosses the cosmological constant boundary w_D=-1. In this paper we present a method of treating the dark energy perturbations during the crossing of the $w_D=-1$ surface by imposing matching conditions which require the induced 3-metric on the hypersurface of w_D=-1 and its extrinsic curvature to be continuous. These matching conditions have been used widely in the literature to study perturbations in various models of early universe physics, such as Inflation, the Pre-Big-Bang and Ekpyrotic scenarios, and bouncing cosmologies. In all of these cases the EoS undergoes a sudden change. Through a detailed analysis of the matching conditions, we show that δ_D and θ_D are continuous on the matching hypersurface. This justifies the method used[1-4] in the numerical calculation and data fitting for the determination of cosmological parameters. We discuss the conditions under which our analysis is applicable.
