The dual formalisms of nonextensive thermodynamics for open systems with maximum entropy principle

We study the nonextensive thermodynamics for open systems. On the basis of the maximum entropy principle, the dual power-law q-distribution functions are re-deduced by using the dual particle number definitions and assuming that the chemical potential is constant in the two sets of parallel formalisms, where the fundamental thermodynamic equations with dual interpretations of thermodynamic quantities are derived for the open systems. By introducing parallel structures of Legendre transformations, other thermodynamic equations with dual interpretations of quantities are also deduced in the open systems, and then several dual thermodynamic relations are inferred. One can easily find that there are correlations between the dual relations, from which an equivalent rule is found that the Tsallis factor is invariable in calculations of partial derivative with constant volume or constant entropy. Using this rule, more correlations can be found. And the statistical expressions of the Lagrange internal energy and pressure are easily obtained.

The nonextensive statistical ensembles with dual thermodynamic interpretations

The nonextensive statistical ensembles are revisited for the complex systems with long-range interactions and long-range correlations. An approximation, the value of nonextensive parameter (1-q) is assumed to be very tiny, is adopted for the limit of large particle number for most normal systems. In this case, Tsallis entropy can be expanded as a function of energy and particle number fluctuation, and thus the power-law forms of the generalized Gibbs distribution and grand canonical distribution can be derived. These new distribution functions can be applied to derive the free energy and grand thermodynamic potential in nonextensive thermodynamics. In order to establish appropriate nonextensive thermodynamic formalism, the dual thermodynamic interpretations are necessary for thermodynamic relations and thermodynamic quantities. By using a new technique of parameter transformation, the single-particle distribution can be deduced from the power-law Gibbs distribution. This technique produces a link between the statistical ensemble and the quasi-independent system with two kinds of nonextensive parameter having quite different physical explanations. Furthermore, the technique is used to construct nonextensive quantum statistics and effectively to avoid the factorization difficulty in the power-law grand canonical distribution.

Thermodynamic properties of the solid and metal electrons in the nonextensive quantum statistics with a nonextensive parameter transformation

We study the thermodynamic properties of solid and metal electrons in the nonextensive quantum statistics with a nonextensive parameter transformation. First we study the nonextensive grand canonical distribution function and the nonextensive quantum statistics with a parameter transformation. Then we derive the generalized Boson distribution and Fermi distribution in the nonextensive quantum statistics. Further we study the thermodynamic properties of solid and metal electrons in the nonextensive quantum system, including the generalized Debye models, the generalized internal energies, the generalized capacities and chemical potential. We derive new expressions of these thermodynamic quantities, and we show that they all depend significantly on the nonextensive parameter and in the limit they recover to the forms in the classical quantum statistics. These new expressions may be applied to study the new characteristics in some nonextensive quantum systems where the long-range interactions and/or long-range correlations play a role.

Nonextensive thermodynamic relations based on the assumption of temperature duality

The nonextensive thermodynamic relations are expressed under the assumption of temperature duality, endowing the "physical temperature" and the "Lagrange temperature" in different physical sense. Based on this assumption, two sets of parallel Legendre transform structures are given. One is called "physical" set, and the other called "Lagrange" set. In these two formalisms, the thermodynamic quantities and the thermodynamic relations are both liked through the Tsallis factor. Application of the two sets of the thermodynamic relations to the self-gravitating system shows that the heat capacity defined in the classical thermodynamics has no relevance to the stability of the system. Instead, the new defined heat capacity can determine the stability of the system.

The gravitational heat conduction and the hierarchical structure in solar interior

With the assumption of local Tsallis equilibrium, the newly defined gravitational temperature is calculated in the solar interior, whose distribution curve can be divided into three parts, the solar core region, radiation region and convection region, in excellent agreement with the solar hierarchical structure. By generalizing the Fourier law, one new mechanism of heat conduction, based on the gradient of the gravitational temperature, is introduced into the astrophysical system. This mechanism is related to the self-gravity of such self-gravitating system whose characteristic scale is large enough. It perhaps plays an important role in the astrophysical system which, in the solar interior, leads to the heat accumulation at the bottom of the convection layer and then motivates the convection motion.

The stationary state and gravitational temperature in a pure self-gravitating system

The pure self-gravitating system in this paper refers to a multi-body gaseous system where the self-gravity plays a dominant role and the intermolecular interactions can be neglected. Therefore its total mass must be much more than a limit mass, the minimum mass of the system exhibiting long-range nature. Thee method to estimate the limit mass is then proposed. The nonequlibrium stationary state in the system is identical to the Tsallis equilibrium state, at which the Tsallis entropy approaches to its maximum. On basis of this idea, we introduce a new concept of the temperature whose expression includes the gravitational potential and therefore we call it gravitational temperature. Accordingly, the gravitational thermal capacity is also introduced and it can be used to verify the thermodynamic stability of the astrophysical systems.

Two physical explanations of the nonextensive parameter in a self-gravitating system

We present two possible physical explanations of the nonextensive parameter in a self-gravitating system. One is related to the detailed balance in such system. With the detailed balance, the statistical balance of molecular energy is reached, under which the radiation energy "stored" in the molecules becomes important. Then the relation between the nonextensive parameter and the storage coefficient which measures the ability of molecules to store the radiation energy is constructed. The other explanation is from one dimensionless quantity called (logarithmic) temperature gradient defined in the stellar physics. In view of this, we find that in order to keep the nuclear reactions alive inside the Sun, the ratio of radiation pressure to the total pressure in the core must be more than 0.2833.
