The curvature-induced gauge potential and the geometric momentum for a particle on a hypersphere

A particle that is constrained to freely move on a hyperspherical surface in an $N\left( \geq 2\right) $ dimensional flat space experiences a curvature-induced gauge potential, whose form was given long ago (J. Math. Phys. \textbf{34}(1993)2827). We demonstrate that the momentum for the particle on the hypersphere is the geometric one including the gauge potential and its components obey the commutation relations $\left[ p_{i},p_{j}\right] =-i\hbar J_{ij}/r^{2}$, in which $\hbar $ is the Planck's constant, and $p_{i}$ ($i,j=1,2,3,...N$) denotes the $i-$th component of the geometric momentum, and $J_{ij}$ specifies the $ij-$th component of the generalized\textit{\ angular momentum} containing both the orbital part and the coupling of the generators of continuous rotational symmetry group $% SO(N-1)$ and curvature, and $r$ denotes the radius of the $N-1$ dimensional hypersphere.

Visual C++ Implementation of Sinogram-based Adaptive Iterative Reconstruction for Sparse View X-Ray CT

With the availability of more powerful computing processors, iterative reconstruction algorithms have recently been successfully implemented as an approach to achieving significant dose reduction in X-ray CT. In this report, we describe our proposal of an adaptive iterative reconstruction algorithm for X-ray CT, that is shown to provide results comparable to those obtained by proprietary algorithms, both in terms of reconstruction accuracy and execution time. Implementation code in the C language is provided, along with example of user interface.

Optimal queue-size scaling in switched networks

We consider a switched (queuing) network in which there are constraints on which queues may be served simultaneously; such networks have been used to effectively model input-queued switches and wireless networks. The scheduling policy for such a network specifies which queues to serve at any point in time, based on the current state or past history of the system. In the main result of this paper, we provide a new class of online scheduling policies that achieve optimal queue-size scaling for a class of switched networks including input-queued switches. In particular, it establishes the validity of a conjecture (documented in Shah, Tsitsiklis and Zhong [Queueing Syst. 68 (2011) 375-384]) about optimal queue-size scaling for input-queued switches.

Qualitative properties of $α$-fair policies in bandwidth-sharing networks

We consider a flow-level model of a network operating under an $α$-fair bandwidth sharing policy (with $α>0$) proposed by Roberts and Massoulié [Telecomunication Systems 15 (2000) 185-201]. This is a probabilistic model that captures the long-term aspects of bandwidth sharing between users or flows in a communication network. We study the transient properties as well as the steady-state distribution of the model. In particular, for $α\geq1$, we obtain bounds on the maximum number of flows in the network over a given time horizon, by means of a maximal inequality derived from the standard Lyapunov drift condition. As a corollary, we establish the full state space collapse property for all $α\geq1$. For the steady-state distribution, we obtain explicit exponential tail bounds on the number of flows, for any $α>0$, by relying on a norm-like Lyapunov function. As a corollary, we establish the validity of the diffusion approximation developed by Kang et al. [Ann. Appl. Probab. 19 (2009) 1719-1780], in steady state, for the case where $α=1$ and under a local traffic condition.
