Quantitative Derivation and Scattering of the 3D Cubic NLS in the Energy Space

We consider the derivation of the defocusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) on $\mathbb{R}^{3}$ from quantum $N$-body dynamics. We reformat the hierarchy approach with Klainerman-Machedon theory and prove a bi-scattering theorem for the NLS to obtain convergence rate estimates under $H^{1}$ regularity. The $H^{1}$ convergence rate estimate we obtain is almost optimal for $H^{1}$ datum, and immediately improves if we have any extra regularity on the limiting initial one-particle state.

The unconditional uniqueness for the energy-supercritical NLS

We consider the cubic and quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equations (NLS) under the $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ and $\mathbb{T}^{d}$ energy-supercritical setting. Via a newly developed unified scheme, we prove the unconditional uniqueness for solutions to NLS at critical regularity for all dimensions. Thus, together with [18,19], the unconditional uniqueness problems for $H^{1}$-critical and $H^{1}$-supercritical cubic and quintic NLS are completely and uniformly resolved at critical regularity for these domains. One application of our theorem is to prove that defocusing blowup solutions of the type in [54] is the only possible $C([0,T);\dot{H}^{s_{c}})$ solution if exist in these domains.

The Unconditional Uniqueness for the Energy-critical Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation on $\mathbb{T}^{4}$

We consider the $\mathbb{T}^{4}$ cubic NLS which is energy-critical. We study the unconditional uniqueness of solution to the NLS via the cubic Gross-Pitaevskii hierarchy, an uncommon method, and does not require the existence of solution in Strichartz type spaces. We prove $U$-$V$ multilinear estimates to replace the previously used Sobolev multilinear estimates, which fail on $\mathbb{T}^{4}$. To incorporate the weaker estimates, we work out new combinatorics from scratch and compute, for the first time, the time integration limits, in the recombined Duhamel-Born expansion. The new combinatorics and the $U$-$V$ estimates then seamlessly conclude the $H^{1}$ unconditional uniqueness for the NLS under the infinite hierarchy framework. This work establishes a unified schemes to prove $H^{1}$ uniqueness for the $\mathbb{R}^{3}/\mathbb{R}^{4}/\mathbb{T}^{3}/\mathbb{T}^{4}$ energy-critical Gross-Pitaevskii hierarchies and thus the corresponding NLS.

Convergence to Equilibrium of a Body Moving in a Kinetic Sea

We consider a continuum of particles that are acted upon by an external force $\mathbf{G}(t,\mathbf{x})$ and that collide with a rigid body. The body itself is subject to a constant force $E$ as well as to the collective force of interaction with the particles. We assume that the particles that collide with the body reflect probabilistically with some probablility distribution $K(v,u)$. Under certain conditions on $\mathbf{G}(t,\mathbf{x})$ and $K(v,u)$, we identify an equilibrium velocity $V_{\infty }$ of the body and we prove that this equilibrium is asymptotically stable.

On the Klainerman-Machedon Conjecture of the Quantum BBGKY Hierarchy with Self-interaction

We consider the 3D quantum BBGKY hierarchy which corresponds to the $N$-particle Schrödinger equation. We assume the pair interaction is $N^{3β-1}V(N^β\bullet).$ For interaction parameter $β\in(0,\frac23)$, we prove that, as $N\rightarrow \infty ,$ the limit points of the solutions to the BBGKY hierarchy satisfy the space-time bound conjectured by Klainerman-Machedon in 2008. This allows for the application of the Klainerman-Machedon uniqueness theorem, and hence implies that the limit is uniquely determined as a tensor product of solutions to the Gross-Pitaevski equation when the $N$-body initial data is factorized. The first result in this direction in 3D was obtained by T. Chen and N. Pavlović (2011) for $β\in (0,\frac14)$ and subsequently by X. Chen (2012) for $β\in (0,\frac27]$. We build upon the approach of X. Chen but apply frequency localized Klainerman-Machedon collapsing estimates and the endpoint Strichartz estimate in the estimate of the potential part to extend the range to $β\in (0,\frac23)$. Overall, this provides an alternative approach to the mean-field program by Erdös-Schlein-Yau (2007), whose uniqueness proof is based upon Feynman diagram combinatorics.

Correlation structures, Many-body Scattering Processes and the Derivation of the Gross-Pitaevskii Hierarchy

We consider the dynamics of $N$ bosons in three dimensions. We assume the pair interaction is given by $N^{3β-1}V(N^{β}\cdot )$ . By studying an associated many-body wave operator, we introduce a BBGKY hierarchy which takes into account all of the interparticle singular correlation structures developed by the many-body evolution from the beginning. Assuming energy conditions on the $N$-body wave function, for $β\in \left( 0,1\right] $, we derive the Gross-Pitaevskii hierarchy with $2$-body interaction. In particular, we establish that, in the $N\rightarrow \infty $ limit, all $k$-body scattering processes vanishes if $k\geqslant 3$ and thus provide a direct answer to a question raised by Erdös, Schlein, and Yau in [31]. Moreover, this new BBGKY hierarchy shares the limit points with the ordinary BBGKY hierarchy strongly for $β\in \left( 0,1\right) $ and weakly for $β=1$. Since this new BBGKY hierarchy converts the problem from a two-body estimate to a weaker three body estimate for which we have the estimates to achieve $β<1$, it then allows us to prove that all limit points of the ordinary BBGKY hierarchy satisfy the space-time bound conjectured by Klainerman and Machedon in [47] for $β\in \left( 0,1\right) $.

On the unconditional uniqueness of solutions to the infinite radial Chern-Simons-Schrödinger hierarchy

In this article we establish the unconditional uniqueness of solutions to an Infinite Radial Chern-Simons-Schrödinger (IRCSS) hierarchy in two spatial dimensions. The IRCSS hierarchy is a system of infinitely many coupled PDEs that describes the limiting Chern-Simons-Schrödinger dynamics of infinitely many interacting anyons. The anyons are two dimensional objects which interact through a self-generated field. Due to the interactions with the self-generated field, the IRCSS hierarchy is a system of nonlinear PDEs, which distinguishes it from the linear infinite hierarchies studied previously. Factorized solutions of the IRCSS hierarchy are determined by solutions of the Chern-Simons-Schrödinger system. Our result therefore implies the unconditional uniqueness of solutions to the radial Chern-Simons-Schrödinger system as well.

On the Weak Coupling Limit of Quantum Many-body Dynamics and the Quantum Boltzmann Equation

The rigorous derivation of the Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation from more fundamental quantum many-particle systems is a challenging open problem in mathematics. In this paper, we exam the weak coupling limit of quantum N-particle dynamics. We assume the integral of the microscopic interaction is zero and we assume W^{4,1} per-particle regularity on the coressponding BBGKY sequence so that we can rigorously commute limits and integrals. We prove that, if the BBGKY sequence does converge in some weak sense, then this weak-coupling limit must satisfy the infinite quantum Maxwell-Boltzmann hierarchy instead of the expected infinite Uehling-Uhlenbeck hierarchy, regardless of the statistics the particles obey. Our result indicates that, in order to derive the Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation, one must work with per-particle regularity bound below W^{4,1}.

Approach to Equilibrium of a Body Colliding Specularly and Diffusely with a Sea of Particles

We consider a rigid body acted upon by two forces, a constant force and the collective force of interaction with a continuum of particles. We assume that some of the particles that collide with the body reflect elastically (specularly), while others reflect probabilistically with some probablility distribution K. We find that the rate of approach of the body to equilibrium is O(t^{-3-p}) in three dimensions where p can take any value from 0 to 2, depending on K.

Focusing Quantum Many-body Dynamics: The Rigorous Derivation of the 1D Focusing Cubic Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

We consider the dynamics of N bosons in one dimension. We assume that the pair interaction is attractive and given by N^{β-1}V(N^β\cdot) where \int V\leqslant 0. We develop new techniques in treating the N-body Hamiltonian so that we overcome the difficulties generated by the attractive interaction and establish new energy estimates. We also prove the optimal 1D collapsing estimate which reduces the regularity requirement in the uniqueness argument by half a derivative. We derive rigorously the one dimensional focusing cubic NLS with a quadratic trap as the N->\infty limit of the N-body dynamic and hence justify the mean-field limit and prove the propagation of chaos for the focusing quantum many-body system.

On the Rigorous Derivation of the 3D Cubic Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with A Quadratic Trap

We consider the dynamics of the 3D N-body Schrödinger equation in the presence of a quadratic trap. We assume the pair interaction potential is N^{3β-1}V(N^{β}x). We justify the mean-field approximation and offer a rigorous derivation of the 3D cubic NLS with a quadratic trap. We establish the space-time bound conjectured by Klainerman and Machedon [30] for β in (0,2/7] by adapting and simplifying an argument in Chen and Pavlović [7] which solves the problem for β in (0,1/4) in the absence of a trap.

Collapsing Estimates and the Rigorous Derivation of the 2d Cubic Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with Anisotropic Switchable Quadratic Traps

We consider the 2d and 3d many body Schrödinger equations in the presence of anisotropic switchable quadratic traps. We extend and improve the collapsing estimates in Klainerman-Machedon [24] and Kirkpatrick-Schlein-Staffilani [23]. Together with an anisotropic version of the generalized lens transform in Carles [3], we derive rigorously the cubic NLS with anisotropic switchable quadratic traps in 2d through a modified Elgart-Erdös-Schlein-Yau procedure. For the 3d case, we establish the uniqueness of the corresponding Gross-Pitaevskii hierarchy without the assumption of factorized initial data.

On the rigorous derivation of the 2D cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation from 3D quantum many-body dynamics

We consider the 3D quantum many-body dynamics describing a dilute bose gas with strong confining in one direction. We study the corresponding BBGKY hierarchy which contains a diverging coefficient as the strength of the confining potential tends to $\infty$. We find that this diverging coefficient is counterbalanced by the limiting structure of the density matrices and establish the convergence of the BBGKY hierarchy. Moreover, we prove that the limit is fully described by a 2D cubic NLS and obtain the exact 3D to 2D coupling constant.

Second order corrections to mean field evolution for weakly interacting Bosons in the case of 3-body interactions

In this paper, we consider the Hamiltonian evolution of N weakly interacting Bosons. Assuming triple collisions, its mean field approximation is given by a quintic Hartree equation. We construct a second order correction to the mean field approximation using a kernel k(t,x,y) and derive an evolution equation for k. We show the global existence for the resulting evolution equation for the correction and establish an apriori estimate comparing the approximation to the exact Hamiltonian evolution. Our error estimate is global and uniform in time. Comparing with the work in [22,12,13] where the error estimate grows in time, our approximation tracks the exact dynamics for all time with an error of the order O(1/$\sqrt{N}$).

Classical Proofs Of Kato Type Smoothing Estimates for The Schrödinger Equation with Quadratic Potential in R^n+1 with application

This paper applies Hermite function techniques to give elementary proofs of Kato type smoothing estimates for the Schrödinger equation with quadratic potential in R^n+1. This is equivalent to proving a uniform L^2(R^n) to L^2(R^n) boundedness for a family of singularized Hermite projection kernels. As an applicationas the above estimate, we also prove the R^9 collapsing variable type Strichartz estimate.
