Fully piecewise linear vector optimization problem

We distinguish two kinds of piecewise linear functions and provide an interesting representation for a piecewise linear function between two normed spaces. Based on such a representation, we study a fully piecewise linear vector optimization (PLP) with the objective and constraint functions being piecewise linear. We divide (PLP) into some linear subproblems and structure a finite dimensional reduction method to solve (PLP). Under some mild assumptions, we prove that the Pareto (resp. weak Pareto) solution set of (PLP) is the union of finitely many generalized polyhedra (resp. polyhedra), each of which is contained in a Pareto (resp. weak Pareto) face of some linear subproblem. Our main results are even new in the linear case and further generalize Arrow, Barankin and Blackwell's classical results on linear vector optimization problems in the framework of finite dimensional spaces.

Lipschitz-like property relative to a set and the generalized Mordukhovich criterion

In this paper we will establish some necessary condition and sufficient condition respectively for a set-valued mapping to have the Lipschitz-like property relative to a closed set by employing regular normal cone and limiting normal cone of a restricted graph of the set-valued mapping. We will obtain a complete characterization for a set-valued mapping to have the Lipschitz-property relative to a closed and convex set by virtue of the projection of the coderivative onto a tangent cone. Furthermore, by introducing a projectional coderivative of set-valued mappings, we establish a verifiable generalized Mordukhovich criterion for the Lipschitz-like property relative to a closed and convex set. We will study the representation of the graphical modulus of a set-valued mapping relative to a closed and convex set by using the outer norm of the corresponding projectional coderivative value. For an extended real-valued function, we will apply the obtained results to investigate its Lipschitz continuity relative to a closed and convex set and the Lipschitz-like property of a level-set mapping relative to a half line.

Hölder Error Bounds and Hölder Calmness with Applications to Convex Semi-Infinite Optimization

Using techniques of variational analysis, necessary and sufficient subdifferential conditions for Hölder error bounds are investigated and some new estimates for the corresponding modulus are obtained. As an application, we consider the setting of convex semi-infinite optimization and give a characterization of the Hölder calmness of the argmin mapping in terms of the level set mapping (with respect to the objective function) and a special supremum function. We also estimate the Hölder calmness modulus of the argmin mapping in the framework of linear programming.

A unified recovery bound estimation for noise-aware Lq optimization model in compressed sensing

In this letter, we present a unified result for the stable recovery bound of Lq(0 < q < 1) optimization model in compressed sensing, which is a constrained Lq minimization problem aware of the noise in a linear system. Specifically, without using the restricted isometry constant (RIC), we show that the error between any global solution of the noise-aware Lq optimization model and the ideal sparse solution of the noiseless model is upper bounded by a constant times the noise level, given that the sparsity of the ideal solution is smaller than a certain number. An interesting parameter {gamma} is introduced, which indicates the sparsity level of the error vector and plays an important role in our analysis. In addition, we show that when γ > 2, the recovery bound of the Lq (0 < q < 1) model is smaller than that of the L1 model, and the sparsity requirement of the ideal solution in the Lq(0 < q < 1) model is weaker than that of the L1 model.

Group sparse optimization via $\ell_{p,q}$ regularization

In this paper, we investigate a group sparse optimization problem via $\ell_{p,q}$ regularization in three aspects: theory, algorithm and application. In the theoretical aspect, by introducing a notion of group restricted eigenvalue condition, we establish some oracle property and a global recovery bound of order $O(λ^\frac{2}{2-q})$ for any point in a level set of the $\ell_{p,q}$ regularization problem, and by virtue of modern variational analysis techniques, we also provide a local analysis of recovery bound of order $O(λ^2)$ for a path of local minima. In the algorithmic aspect, we apply the well-known proximal gradient method to solve the $\ell_{p,q}$ regularization problems, either by analytically solving some specific $\ell_{p,q}$ regularization subproblems, or by using the Newton method to solve general $\ell_{p,q}$ regularization subproblems. In particular, we establish the linear convergence rate of the proximal gradient method for solving the $\ell_{1,q}$ regularization problem under some mild conditions. As a consequence, the linear convergence rate of proximal gradient method for solving the usual $\ell_{q}$ regularization problem ($0<q<1$) is obtained. Finally in the aspect of application, we present some numerical results on both the simulated data and the real data in gene transcriptional regulation.

On Error Bound Moduli for Locally Lipschitz and Regular Functions

In this paper we study local error bound moduli for a locally Lipschitz and regular function via its outer limiting subdifferential set. We show that the distance of 0 from the outer limiting subdifferential of the support function of the subdifferential set, which is essentially the distance of 0 from the end set of the subdifferential set, is an upper estimate of the local error bound modulus. This upper estimate becomes tight for a convex function under some regularity conditions. We show that the distance of 0 from the outer limiting subdifferential set of a lower $\mathcal{C}^1$ function is equal to the local error bound modulus.
