A new approach for the strong unique continuation of electromagnetic Schroedinger operator with complex-valued coefficient

This paper mainly addresses the strong unique continuation property for the electromagnetic Schrödinger operator with complex-valued coefficients. Appropriate multipliers with physical backgrounds have been introduced to prove a priori estimates. Moreover, its application in an exact controllability problem has been shown, in which case, the boundary value determines the interior value completely.

An approximation method for the optimization of pp-th moment of Rn\mathbb{R}^n-valued random variable

This paper mainly addresses the optimization of pp-th moment of Rn\mathbb{R}^n-valued random variable. Through an ingenious approximation mechanism, one transforms the maximization problem into a sequence of minimization problems, which can be converted into a sequence of nonlinear differential equations with constraints by variational approach. The existence and uniqueness of the solution for each equation can be demonstrated by applying the canonical duality method. Moreover, the dual transformation gives a sequence of perfect dual maximization problems. In the final analysis, one constructs the approximation of the probability density function accordingly.

Analytic solutions for the approximated 1-D Kantorovich mass transfer problems

This paper mainly investigates the approximation of a global maximizer of the 1-D Monge-Kantorovich mass transfer problem through the approach of nonlinear differential equations with Dirichlet boundary. Using an approximation mechanism, the primal maximization problem can be transformed into a sequence of minimization problems. By applying the canonical duality theory, one is able to derive a sequence of analytic solutions for the minimization problems. In the final analysis, the convergence of the sequence to a global maximizer of the primal Monge-Kantorovich problem will be demonstrated.

Analytic solutions for the approximated Kantorovich mass transfer problems by pp-Laplacian approach

This manuscript discusses the approximation of a global maximizer of the Kantorovich mass transfer problem through the approach of pp-Laplacian equation. Using an approximation mechanism, the primal maximization problem can be transformed into a sequence of minimization problems. By applying the canonical duality theory, one is able to derive a sequence of analytic solutions for the minimization problems. In the final analysis, the convergence of the sequence to a global maximizer of the primal Kantorovich problem will be demonstrated.

Analytic solutions for the approximation of pp-Laplacian problem

This paper mainly investigates the analytic solutions for the approximation of pp-Laplacian problem. Through an approximation mechanism, we convert the nonlinear partial differential equation with Dirichlet boundary into a sequence of minimization problems. And a sequence of analytic minimizers can be obtained by applying the canonical duality theory. Moreover, the nonlinear canonical transformation gives a sequence of perfect dual maximization(minimization) problems, and further discussion shows the global extrema for both primal and dual problems.

Canonical duality approach in the approximation of optimal Monge mass transfer mapping

This paper mainly addresses the Monge mass transfer problem in the 1-D case. Through an ingenious approximation mechanism, one transforms the Monge problem into a sequence of minimization problems, which can be converted into a sequence of nonlinear differential equations with constraints by variational method. The existence and uniqueness of the solution for each equation can be demonstrated by applying the canonical duality method. Moreover, the duality method gives a sequence of perfect dual maximization problems. In the final analysis, one constructs the approximation of optimal mapping for the Monge problem according to the theoretical results.

Multiple nonsmooth solutions for nonconvex variational boundary value problems in Rn\mathbb{R}^n

This paper presents a set of complete solutions of a nonconvex variational problem with a double-well potential. Based on the canonical duality-triality theory, the associated nonlinear differential equation with either Dirichlet/Neumann or mixed boundary conditions can be converted into an algebraic equation, which can be solved analytically to obtain all solutions in the dual space. Both global and local extremality conditions are identified by the triality theory. In the application part, typical mechanical models with specificsources and boundary conditions in R2\mathbb{R}^2 are exhibited.

On the extrema of a nonconvex functional with double-well potential in higher dimensions

This paper mainly addresses the extrema of a nonconvex functional with double-well potential in higher dimensions through the approach of nonlinear partial differential equations. Based on the canonical duality method, the corresponding Euler--Lagrange equation with Neumann boundary condition can be converted into a cubic dual algebraic equation, which will help find the local extrema for the primal problem. In comparison with the 1D case discussed by D. Gao and R. Ogden, there exists huge difference in higher dimensions, which will be explained in the theorem.

Regularity of hyperbolic magnetic Schrödinger equation with oscillating coefficients

This paper mainly discuss the regularity behavior of the hyperbolic magnetic Schroedinger equation with singular coefficients near the origin. We apply the techniques from the microlocal analysis to explore the upper bound of loss of regularity. Furthermore, in order to demonstrate the optimality of the result, a delicate counterexample with periodic coefficients will be constructed to show the lower bound of loss of regularity by the application of harmonic analysis and instability arguments.

On hypergraph Lagrangians

It is conjectured by Frankl and Füredi that the rr-uniform hypergraph with mm edges formed by taking the first mm sets in the colex ordering of N(r){\mathbb N}^{(r)} has the largest Lagrangian of all rr-uniform hypergraphs with mm edges in \cite{FF}. Motzkin and Straus' theorem confirms this conjecture when r=2r=2. For r=3r=3, it is shown by Talbot in \cite{T} that this conjecture is true when mm is in certain ranges. In this paper, we explore the connection between the clique number and Lagrangians for rr-uniform hypergraphs. As an implication of this connection, we prove that the rr-uniform hypergraph with mm edges formed by taking the first mm sets in the colex ordering of N(r){\mathbb N}^{(r)} has the largest Lagrangian of all rr-uniform graphs with tt vertices and mm edges satisfying (t−1r)≤m≤(t−1r)+(t−2r−1)−[(2r−6)×2r−1+2r−3+(r−4)(2r−7)−1]((t−2r−2)−1){t-1\choose r}\leq m \leq {t-1\choose r}+ {t-2\choose r-1}-[(2r-6)\times2^{r-1}+2^{r-3}+(r-4)(2r-7)-1]({t-2\choose r-2}-1) for r≥4.r\geq 4.
